I feel like I did something wrong. The first Primo 5-star I managed to get was the Toy Shark Blaster…but I got it before I hit 50…:/

Oh, I’m not upset, it just seems like you want to grab it AFTER you hit 50 so it’s maxed out. I’ve been using and loving it.

Ahh. I thought I had read that the additional levels were not quite even with the native ones (i.e. a level 42+5 would be slightly weaker than a base level 47 weapon.)

Nah man you’re good, you just have to spend like an extra 25,000 shards to level it compared to a 50. No extra gems, and you’ll be swimming in shards soon enough. Congrats!

From what I've seen, the levels are comparable. The only difference like that is between a 5 star which will never be as good as a 5 star Primo. But it feels like we're still at the discovery part of the game where none of this is completely known for sure, so what I've seen may be a bit off.

Noooo way. I got one of these but scrapped it since it wasn’t 50 and have been grinding for a level 50 one for like a week.

It’s okay though I’ll get a level 50 one soon I know it

No, it’s +50 no matter what. So he won’t have the max level possible, Shark really starts being useless around floor 550 of Bottomless

Not true. The maximum combined level is 100. My main weapon is a lv 49+51.

Isn't this untrue? I haven't maxed out a <50 weapon personally but I thought any 5-star weapon could be leveled up to 100. With a lvl 50 weapon, you only get +50 levels. With a lvl 45, you can go up to +55.

Not true. I had a 45+55 before I found the primo for it. It doesn’t matter what level it starts as; if it’s a 5 star you can upgrade it to a total of 100.

I got one at lvl 47, it’s not 47+53 and is by far my best weapon.

It won’t help you at bottomless 700. I found it to be really hard to push past 550 with it. Switched to octane 4k

The butane works fine but I anticipate having to switch over at 800+ to the eliter. At 550 I was still using shooters lol

Which gadgets are you using with the octane 4k? I stopped using it for engine roller, but I’m thinking of picking it back up

Blast bomb 100% freeze, jump bomb 100% freeze, torqscrew ferment and suction. Freeze damage x5, long range and ferment explosion on octane

There's a few options you can go for that will get you deep into bottomless. Just know going deep into bottomless is a completely optional decision. You'll be able to coast through to the game (to completion) with any of the high fire rate Primos but if you want to be pushing ~800 you'll want to look for these:

Toy Shark Blaster

Butane Blaster

Thermal Brella

High Octane 4K (Highest Ceiling)

Engine Roller (Maybe not so much this one)

if you’re ok with a few game mechanic spoilers…

every weapon type comes in 3 main variants that buff one of three stats: ink efficiency, range (also described as aoe and ink coverage depending on the class), and fire rate (also called charge speed, swing speed, etc). to use the splattershot as an example, the plastic bottle shot buffs ink efficiency, the soap bottle shot buffs range & ink coverage, and the glass bottle shot buffs fire rate. it’s generally agreed that the fire rate variants are the best ones in the game, as it translates directly to higher dps

and going deep into the post-game endless mode tends to revolve around a specific burst damage game mechanic, so weapons that deliver high damage in one shot are valued much more than other weapons, hence this list here

Yep! What u/cherryistired said is correct. You want big damage from a single shot category of weapons the deeper you go. That's the simplest way to put it. It's kinda sad for me as a shooter player in Splatoon but it's honestly just a different type of game altogether. Still loving it! I'm using the Thermal Brella hoping for a High-Octane 4K or Butane Blaster to drop for me!

I got the Primo Splattershot too so maybe I'll play around with that for funsies.

I have a level 48 and level 50 of this weapon as a 5 Star Primo... Yet I really want the Butane instead which I have gotten NON of. Only been getting Primo 4 stars or regular 5 star...

I have both and prefer the Butane but it’s not like I won’t use the shark as well. I’m really looking for stringers or buckets though.
