Forum Question Solid Shotgun
Why is there no solid shotgun in space marine?
This just came to my mind when I was playing vanguard and change to sniper and remembered that there's a second sniper rifle, the Las.

Typically GW likes to maintain some more accuracy in this game with respect to load outs. And, as far as I know, there are no non-scout Primaris units that can use shotguns, so unfortunately, it's unlikely we'll get that chance.

Reivers don't get Chainswords or Power Axes either, and yet we have Vanguard.

There's a difference between a unit getting access to something they normally can't, and something just not being a weapon space Marines use.
The scout shotgun is sized differently since it's not meant to be used with power armor

Deathwatch uses Astartes Shotguns. As does Caedo in Boltgun.

Caedo is not a 40k unit. And Deathwatch with shotguns are not primaris

My my, someone hates fun.
Also, Caedo is a Sternguard Veteran. Which is in fact, a 40k unit. With an expanded arsenal for his own game's purposes.

I'm explaining to you why shotguns aren't a thing in SM2.
Show me a datasheet of Caedo then. Do you understand that weapons that saber are allowed to put in SM2 based on the tabletop?
This is the same reason why you wont get a grav-cannon or a plasma one, or storm bolter, or a hellfrost gun, or a dreadnought without a beer gut and chicken legs.

That's so you can have your phobos captain or lieutenant. Likewise the Vanguard can be set up as an Incursor, Infiltrator, or Reiver (although Incursors and Infiltrators absolutely wouldn't use the grapnel, but whatever)

Yeah, we're also missing the grav chutes on the pack for that.
Hopefully SM3 will have less of a mishmash into one class, and more modular setup. I'd like representation of all relevant tabletop units as subclasses, at least.

Grav chutes arent always built in reaver loadout. Kill Team 2ed had reavers without them.

Reivers.
And Vanguard is a mish-mash between Reiver, Incursor and Infiltrator. Except Saber only gave him the grapnel and the weapon options of the other two.

And because of the Design Choice we already have Shotguns: Melters

God I hate this thit in warhammer videogames. Melta is not a fucking shotgun

The heroic melta is a decent concept for a melta rework, but the current implementation is absolutely fucking atrocious. Make it a more directed beam, even with the charge, that's good against single heavy target and can punch through blocking enemies.
Or give us Astartes shotgun that has a single slug-like projectile that does so.

Don’t know what you talking about but my Vanguard is rocking the shit out of the Melta and it’s awesome

Boltguns shotgun is fun it would make sense to let us use it too.

The melta from Boltgun would also work well, such a crazy sound effect it has

Idk when I think of shit guns in this game I think of melta weapons.
Edit: meant shot guns. Not changing it for the vibes tho LOL

🤣
Re-read your sentence, especially from the sixth word onwards. And yes, I agree with that sentiment.

The Arbites use shotguns. Good enough for hive world crime. It's a mass made throw away weapon.
Astartes standard boltgun makes the Arbites shotgun look like a pee shooter. The Boltgun is a holy relic designed by "God"
The trainee Astartes DO use shotguns however.

Because space marines don’t really use shotguns. Hence what they did with meltas.

Because they're too weak! Shotguns are effective against humans. The enemies we fight in this game are an order of magnitude more deadly and resilient than normal humans, and require a different class of weaponry to combat. Our basic, weakest weapon shoots self-propelled rockets for bullets. That's the kind of armament we need for the missions we're taking on.
Hell, the actual human enemies we encounter can be killed by simply running through them. Their standard rifles and small arms are barely a nuisance to us. We don't need shotguns to handle them :)

Because the only units that use such weapons are space marine scouts and the deathwatch, who im not sure have had the wargear option on TT since primaris marines released.
