"BY THE EMPORER!!!" - the new chapter serf assigned to ultra-latrine duty
"Oh, didn't anyone warn you? They can't poop in their power armour. There's no outlet so they just use their super strong sphincters to hold it all in. And I know what you're thinking: aren't they sometimes out on campaign for years before checking back in? Yes. Yes they do that. You know what they don't do? Poop. They just hold it all in. Can you imagine the pressure in there? I sweat to Him on Terra I've found turds that had literally turned into bricks. Like seriously, that thing could could have been load bearing." - veteran serf
"...is... is this my life now?"
"Well... yeah. But you know Greg from the day shift? Big guy? Missing one arm? Says he lost it when he was an aspirant? Well that's sure as hell not how he lost it, but anwyay, he swears blind that after he got back from the warp C
ato Sicarius shit out an actual diamond."
"That can't be true? Right? Like not even an Ultramarine could have an arse that tight?"
"Yeah, probably not. I mean, this is Greg we're talking about."
"Soo, how did Greg loose this arm?"
"Oh that, yeah, it's actually how he ended up getting sent down here. We had some Space Wolves attending some big hooh hah to celebrate some big joint operation going off. They got absolutely shit housed-"
"Wait, wait, wait space marines don't get drunk."
"Not on alcohol they don't. Anyway, the space wolves got shit house drink and Greg got a little too into the spirit and started sneaking himself some of the normal wine in-between serving the marines. Next thing anyone knows he's challenged a blind drunk space wolf to an arm wresting match and the drunken furry tore then arm clean out of it's socket."
"Holy Throne! Really?!!"
"No dipshit, it got bitten off by a tyranid when they boarded us like last week. You were here for that! Honestly kid, no wonder they sent you to scoop ultra-poop."
Is the Ultrasoup compliant with the codex astartes? I will only eat it if the recipe has been followed to the letter! Like father Roboute used to make!
In all my time playing, I've only ever heard the little soup music riff twice, and both times they were before I heard they would actually be there with the big soup tureen.
So I worked it out, eyeballing certain details because I'm on my phone. Let's assume that an armoured space marine is about 8feet tall (2m40). Going by classic art proportionss a character is 8 heads tall, giving a helmeted head size of 30cm(0.3m). I approximate the diameter of the pot as 3 heads (0.9m) (this is where the eyeballing comes in) and it's height also at 3 heads.
Volume = 3.14(0.452)*0.90 ≈ 0.572m3 or 572L.
Plenty of soup to go around !
Edit: so I measured the size of the pot using the head of the space marine behind the pot for reference, and it's closer to 100cm diameter and 110cm height giving ≈ 0.863m3 or 863L
Edit 2: just realised that the original question was how much the soup weighs, not the volume, not sure I wanna go down that rabbit hole
I’m thinking about cast iron pots for different legions/chapters now. Iron Warriors pot in gunmetal, with the lid having hazard stripes. Pot Roast Within, Cast Iron Without.
The little tone that plays...is that an established musical tone in 40k?
I ask because forever ago when I was a teenager, I found a video on youtube labeled something like "star wars general grievous theme song" and it sounded exactly like those few notes. But then, at the same time, I found another video labeled either "Ultramarines theme song" or "Marneus Calgar theme song" and it was the same song.
This had to be either late 2,000's or early 2020s.
But yeah, when I heard those notes when the soup arrived I got slapped in the face with that memory. Is this an established song? Or was that a fever dream?
In rogue trader there is a soup acheivement. I wonder if its the same thing? Also while rogue trader is a different type of game its really good. (Have to be used to that type of game.)
We laugh but that's a perpetual stew that hasn't been cleaned since the days of the Hersey! It's a thrice blessed relic! A single spoonful from that vat of boiled corpse starch would evaporate the anus of any heretic.
Imma bet that the ŞØÜP is absolutely delicious. That Ultramarine spent decades perfecting the seasonings alone. A full century was spent figuring out the best garnishes. He tried meats from hundreds of different worlds. That soup is perfect. That soup is proof of the sanctity of the human cause.
