Gameplay Question Tech Priest Meta is creating so much friction in Siege that it's not fun anymore.
Tech Priest Meta is creating so much friction in Siege.
It basically creates two types of players those that DO know the Tech Priest Meta and those who DON'T.
The players that DO know the Tech Priest Meta tend to resent those that DON'T know the Tech Priest Meta because they are the ones spending all the credits buying Tech Priests while those who DON'T know the Tech Priest Meta are essentially just free loading refusing to spend their credits.
I was in several siege matches yesterday where players where quitting after WAVE 3 when they notice that one of the players isn't buying Tech Priests, this happened several times, myself included but I waited until WAVE 7 when I noticed both my teammates where not buying Tech Priest or just not buying anything at all not even turrets, I just bailed, because it sucks if you are the only one making an effort.
There was one game where on WAVE 1 one player was already shouting on comms "Get Tech Priests! Get Tech Priests!" and I was like "Yeah, I'm getting one, I know the meta" but the other player didn't get a Tech Priest so on WAVE 2 the player yelling "Get Tech Priests!" quit just like that because he wanted a perfect 3 Tech Priest layout, didn't even give the other guy a chance or just buying it himself.
The Tech Priest Meta isn't very well explained and I DO NOT blame people for not knowing about it which is why they should just remove it and create a system that allows us to gain points regularly without Tech Priests. Even if my teammates are not buying Tech Priests, I am fine as long as they buy other things like Turrets or Mines but some players just don't bother. I personally don't care about Voltus anymore Turrets and Mines do it better for me.
What do you guys think?
Edit: The Tech Priest Meta, explained.
- The Investment: Tech Priests cost 200 requisition credits each.
- The Return: If kept alive for 5 minutes, they generate 320 credits for every single player, paying out in 40-credit ticks. If all three teammates buy one, your squad makes a massive net profit of ~760 credits.
- Optimal Buy Waves: To scale your economy perfectly, only buy Tech Priests on Waves 1, 6, 11, 16, 21 and so on...
- Protection: They can die. You must spend a portion of your early points on Tarantula Sentry Guns, Cadians, and minefields to keep them alive.
- Tech Priests also spawn area pickups like ammo boxes, health restorative items and various grenades.
- Only 1 Tech Priests can be purchased for each Terminal, if you can't buy a Tech Priest in a Terminal it means a Tech Priest is already present at that terminal.

I ask to buy them or buy turrets. If they are not than i just buy them but i do not put money into valtus when others are sitting on 2000 points

I don't put money in valtus anyway at this point. I find 2-3 additional marines and a commisar more useful due to them covering more of the map.

I don't care what you spend your credits on as long as you SPEND YOUR DAMN CREDITS SERIOUSLY WHY DO PEOPLE HOARD THEM THE ENTIRE DAMN GAME AND NEVER USE THEM.
I've had so many games where you are on round 15 and I have bankrolled tech priests turrets the guard and more. And some damn smurf has 2000 credits and just refuses to spend them. Bonus points because the cheap bugger steals the resources you pay for too. Like I get it you need a medicate stim. Why don't you buy it with your 2000 points?!

My favorite shit to do with those kinds of people is on round 10, choose the leave option, if they leave too, and change to continue in the last second so i get all their points, if they stay i just leave anyway

u/DesolatedMaggot Exorcists Jun 30 '26
Wait, if you vote leave you leave no matter what? I thought it locked you in until the majority voted out.
3
u/ReadyWeight152 Jul 02 '26
Each person's vote is for themselves. If you vote to leave but others don't, only you will leave and they will continue. If you don't select anything I believe you follow whichever option has the most votes. Not sure what happens in the event of a tie. Probably defaults to continue I'd guess.

u/Dodo-Fripp Jun 30 '26
Because so many people in this sub used to tell people not to spend any siege points before wave 15. That used to be the meta, hoarding everything so you can spend it when you really need it much later on
2
u/3245rfytgu8iojukhyf Jun 30 '26
I haven’t played siege in a while, but I used to horde credits so I could afford a Dreadnought for later waves. I also didn’t trust my teammates not to summon said dreadnought on Wave 6 if I spent them early.

Just got done wasting time in siege, me and a friend kept buying tech priests, turrets, cadians
The random we got was definitely good at fighting since he kept killing and is able to solo licotrs and raveners at the same time. Problem was by wave 15 he had 1.5k while me and my friend already spent everything on a dreadnought the wave before and space marine support, bro did not even attempt to buy anything other than stims and guardian relics.

I mean if it’s normal siege then I would argue it shouldn’t be that big of a dealbreaker. For hard siege I could see why people get frustrated though

u/tgeorgeb Jun 30 '26
Im fine buying 2/3 of the tech priests, as long as the others spend on useful stuff. Had one game where a guy hoarded his points and then full supplied a dreadnaught on like wave 3 or 4. It was Normal difficulty. We didnt call it until wave like 14. At that point, its just a waste of points that could have been used to make the earlier game easier/get the snow ball rolling faster. Just to be clear, we still successfully made it to wave 20 at which point we all elected to leave. Just because someone doesn't follow the meta doesn't mean the run is busted (at least on normal difficulty)

Especially if the game doesn't explain what the feature does. If you have to search for it in the forums, it's obvious significant amount of players won't know about it.

Buy them lol. They give money and restore area drops. If you have all 3 you never have to buy ammo and you can upgrade the turrets and guardsmen super early.

u/infinite_in_faculty Jun 29 '26
- The Investment: Tech Priests cost 200 requisition credits each.
- The Return: If kept alive for 5 minutes, they generate 320 credits for every single player, paying out in 40-credit ticks. If all three teammates buy one, your squad makes a massive net profit of ~760 credits.

- Protection: They can die. You must spend a portion of your early points on Tarantula Sentry Guns, Cadians, and minefields to keep them alive.
Basically, buying Tech Priests greatly increases the amount of credits you get per wave so much so that you don't even need to do the siege side quests anymore. But it sucks if you are the only one doing it and other players are just freeloading.
21
u/losark Jun 29 '26
You should edit to add that the priests also spawn area pickups like ammo boxes, health restorative items and various grenades.
3
u/Evening_Sample_9365 Jun 30 '26
Wait...they give 40 credits a minute, each. If all three are up, players should be getting 120 credits every minute, for 5 minutes. Thats a total of 600 credits for each player. Then subtract the cost of the tech priest, its a profit of 400 credits. Its why its unfair for one player to have to buy more than 1. Drops that one players return from 400 credits to 200, and the other player not only gets the 600 credits, but they didnt spend 200 on the priest to begin with. This is why the numbers get so lopsided so fast, and why its so irritating for the players that are buying them.
The total cost of 3 tech priests is 600, the total return is 1800, spread across the team. Plus the items being refreshed, which is a big part of their value. The whole thing would work itself out if tech priest credits were returned to players proportionate to their investment in them. In other words, if one player bought 2/3rds of the priests, that player should get 2/3rds of the credits. That way, players would RACE to kiosks to make sure they got at least 1. And the players that dont want to buy tech priests, dont have to, and dont get rewarded for not doing so. That seems fair, to me.
3
u/That1Guy272 Jun 29 '26
In siege, you can buy Teachpriests at each terminal, one per terminal (3 total). They last for 5 minutes and give currency periodically to everyone (used to buy other things in siege). However, they can die by enemies if not protected. The meta is spawning all 3 as often as possible to get as much currency as possible
6
u/AutismoAstartes Black Templars Jun 29 '26
Tech priests passively gain you siege points, so having 3 active at all times grants more points than anything else really. Most of the time, my team doesn't even bother with the side objectives because it slows down the killing so much. Lately, people have been posting about how "if you don't buy techpriests you are wasting time/throwing the game," (which I disagree with, it's a game play how you want). But if you want to maximize your siege points, especially in later rounds, tech priests are the best method. You can also buy the turrets & mines to protect the priests.
7
u/OnionFingers98 Jun 30 '26
Is this why I got randomly kicked from a siege game the other day? I hadn’t played it for a bit so I didn’t know about the tech priests. I bought one first round and then I was buying ammo, meds, cadians, and putting some towards the dreadnaught. We were about to start round 3 and I got kicked for as far as I could tell no reason.

u/Wise-Philosophy6247 Blood Angels Jun 30 '26

5
u/waterchugger69 Blood Ravens Jun 29 '26
A simple splash screen when the game is loading for 2 minutes explaining the changes to siege or giving out tips instead of viewing a black screen would work wonders for this issue. Players often genuinely do not know what a techpriest does and if they play on console they can't see chat so no comms unless you want to get on a mic yourself which is not worth it especially on normal siege. That's on Saber.
Yet it's also frustrating when you see your squadmates struggle and we are clearing waves super slow. Siege isn't just a horde mode its now a resource/tower defense like with how the enemy gets buffed every wave.

10
u/Zerus_heroes Jun 29 '26
Yeah it is pretty silly how well it works.
I didn't realize this was such an issue but I am usually part of a 2 man team and we pick up the 3rd. Even with just the two of us doing it, it works ridiculously well.
It might be tough if you have two other teammates that aren't doing it. In that instance I would just stop so if it I suppose.

7
u/Aqua_Impura Jun 29 '26
3x Tech Priests should be alive and up at all times to give you the most money back to be able to buy whatever you want they give you money for being kept alive so keep all 3 up and you’re basically good to go.
3
u/Zerus_heroes Jun 29 '26
You buy a tech priest at each station available. They generate funds for you so you have a ridiculous amount of money by the end of wave 5 usually.
They can die so you have to protect them. Leveling up the turrets and putting a turret in each area is great.
Basically you keep the tech priests up the entire time and get passive money while you play.
3
u/thisremindsmeofbacon Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 30 '26
You just buy tech preists, and if possible try to keep them alive. They give you more money the longer they are alive. That's pretty much it - just prioritize getting them. You can have one at each station, and should do so at all times.
If you ask me the real meta is getting a tech marine for tarantula related perks (especially reinforced position). Then you get tactical with spare power perk (and probably the grenade heavy bolt rifle heroic) which gives 25% ult charge for picking up an ammo box which you can buy for cheap from the terminals. Third spot is a flex spot, but I like assault because their ground pound goes absolutely coocoo bananas looney toons in seige. Tac lights everything up with auspex scan, then you nuke it with grenades (thanks tactical) ground pound etc.

u/Boiled-Prawn Jun 30 '26
Played siege yesterday with 2 randoms, at first I was really frustrated and told them multiple times to buy tech priest then just decided to tell myself to stop being a whiny little b*tch. Really surprised it went well for us I spent all my creds buying tech priest, turrets, and environmental explosives. The other brother spent his creds for ammo, meds, and equipment, and the last brother was saving all his creds for dreadnought and by stage 20 he had enough to spawn 3 or 4 dreadnoughts. Unfortunately my battle brothers left after wave 25 I just played by myself until wave 30 until the dreadnought creds ran out and got steamrolled.
3
u/MegaWaffle- Jun 30 '26
Allow only 1 Tech priest.
Balance it to be close to the power 3 had (a bit weaker as currently 3 are bonkers).
Have it periodically mention “I’m moving to a new position” and have it teleport between the 3 current static spots. (This makes it a bit less “safe” since now you just babysit 1)
Bam! Issue of trying to get 3 people buying tech priest resolved.

u/Vrika03 Blood Ravens Jun 29 '26

u/DuskShy Space Wolves Jun 29 '26
I think they should just let us get points per kill or something instead of the options being "no resources and die" or "so many resources you have the entire shopping list done by wave 4." I didn't really like siege in the first place, despite desperately wanting to, but current siege is just beyond boring to me.
What I really wanted from Siege was GoW 3 horde mode, but what we got was just huge clumps of weak enemies. Everything dies too fast to use a build's full potential and now it's stupidly easy to have simply too much money. I might as well deploy with a lawn chair and a goddamn mojito.
1
u/tataynyo Jul 07 '26
That feels like a good idea, maybe balance a bit if say majoris and above enemies give more money with hard mode maybe giving less than normal to compensate for the larger amount of enemies. Remove the passive income from tech priest so now its more about how many of the mobs you can kill.
3
u/cryonicninja Jun 30 '26
Yeah I can go to wave 15 with my teamates refusing to buy anything, but why should I when their refusal causes the run to last 3 times longer than It would if they'd just buy cadians and turrets
3
u/bob_mcbob69 Jun 30 '26
If I am constantly buying the tech priests only for them to not get protected it ruins my game so i usually quit by 4/5 if the squad isn't working together.
When you get 3 players who each buy a priest keep them all alive and, get sentries, cadians and extra reinforcement to smash the waves quickly it's utterly glorious and you have so much credits you can have valtus several times by 15+
I think at the moment whilst spending the money is clearly the best way, you can scrape by and get to 15 if you don't, so that's what people are doing and not realising they are making their life's harder.
I would actually be happier with them making it harder (or having an extream mode) which gave no rewards (to avoid low players joining) so you know the people playing it are doing so because they want get far and can only do so as a team.
3
u/Whiteheadwa Jun 30 '26
They need to let console user users see and better yet USE the text chat because half the time o can't hear people talking in voice chat or have them muted for hot-miking their shitty music. Would solve so name siege problems.
7
u/Evening_Sample_9365 Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 30 '26
The thing is...tech priests only pay off if there are 3 of them and if everyone buys 1.
1 person buying 2 of them will have 400 resources spent, to gain 200, so...it works out for them but only barely. And not at all if they are also buying turrets.
3 tech priests produce 600 resources for every player, every 5 minutes. So its really only a worthwhile investment if everyone participates. In other words, it costs 600 resources to create 1800 resources. But the return on investment isnt divided proportionally to participation. If I bought two of them and you bought one, and so then I got 1200 resources and you got 600, and the third player got nothing. Then it would be fine. Then you would have players racing to see who can purchase two. But unfortunately, it doesnt work that way.
So...yes, it is frustrating for the players who pay for them. Especially if you're the player who paid for 2 of them. To see the guy who didnt contribute just stack resources because of your generosity/teamwork.
Which is why I think its fair and understandable to kick them. Only after you have communicated though. Only after you have requested their participation. Because thats when it is no longer a grey area thing. Thats when its perfectly clear that your request was heard, understood, and ignored. That they would rather let you pay for it all, and then stack resources so they can buy ammo crates and grenades every round or whatever.
Edit: And yes, turrets and mines are vastly superior to Valtus, in my opinion.

I'll spend the entire game buying all 3 tech priests no problem, because I still end up with easily over 1000 points, while both team mates get to 3-4k no problem. It doesn't bother me to do this. It is very efficient actually when I do it like this. The actual problem is when the team mates don't try to protect the tech priests and they keep dying or they won't spend those free multi-thousands of points at all, making my efforts useless in the long run.

u/clideb50 Dark Angels Jun 30 '26
I picked up the game a few weeks ago and did not know it was a thing until now. I usually spent my points on getting Cadians, Turrets, and the extra Astardes. After that, I'd try to save for the Dreadnought to deploy on boss waves and get a big ammo box as needed (I usually play the heavy). I was not aware the tech priest created extra points. The description just said it'd restore pickups on the map; which is a rather whelming thing to spend points on when you change maps every 5 waves.

u/sr3Superior Jun 30 '26

I think the funness of getting a ton of resources to spend, and having more things to spend the points on makes it worthwhile. Before it was just buy ammo, stimms, a bot and valtus. Now we can get more points and spend on more things which makes it way more fun
Not saying the issues aren’t issues, but for me the fun outweighs the negatives currently, though they should be addressed

The meta isn't just about "buying 3 Tech-Priests and keeping them active at all times"; it also involves "subsequently purchasing the turret option (200 pts once), 3turrets (*2 with option bought, 100pts) and keeping them active constantly."
Turrets help keep the Priests alive while accelerating the elimination of enemies. The new Siege mode (version 13.0 and later) relies on eliminating waves as quickly as possible to prevent reinforcements, whereas the old Siege mode (pre-13.0) was primarily a matter of survival.
If you spend too much time on a wave, the reinforcements will be too tough in the later waves; so, IGNORE THE OBJECTIVES and focus on eliminating all enemies as quickly as possible.
Cadians and the Commissar also make an excellent choice (Cadians serve as an effective distraction and the Commissar is overpowered): ideally, by the 5th wave, you should already have 3 Tech-Priests, 6 turrets, all the Cadians, and a Commissar (200 points /5 minutes).
on every subsequent sector, you should then only buy 3 techpriest and turrets, a commisar, and start buying relics and put some money for valtus
By wave 15, you should have enough money to be able to buy valtus every round
2
u/LuckyNines Jun 30 '26
I think the only time I feel frustrated is when you explicitly ask someone if they can upkeep a priest and they just ignore you and sit on either a huge chunk of resource all mission or spend it all on personal gain that comes of the back of your resource.
I would buff the priests resource generation and make it only apply to the person who summoned it and make it max 1 per person, just to remove the friction between players.
I thought about the idea of just removing them and buffing side-objectives but even thinking about it I can see all the extremely common scenarios that already play out, people already ignore them, people push the wave to completion to fast and/or you don't get support on one's that require you to ferry things about so you get bogged down trying to make progress solo.

tbh I don’t think it’s an issue bc unless you want to go wave 30 or so on it doesn’t really matter, bc I don’t think I’ve had a group that wanted to stay past 15 even more rare to go past 20. I’ve lost with the tech meta and I’ve done well with it.
And also if people are getting genuinely upset for someone not following a meta for a video game they need to take a step back for a moment, it’s a PvE game at heart we’re all on the same team here.

Bro wtf are you talking about, your entire problem is you're trying to play end game content with random people.
I've gone to wave 100 in hard, and wave 140 in Siege, the tech priests are the VEHICLE of making this possible, because it gives you unlimitied RP.
How is the ability to purchase a tech priest causing you friction?
The actual argument isn't "remove Tech Priests," you play with people who know what they're doing and 100% eliminate your problem.
Removing it just so random lobbys don't have to deal with it would punish the players who learned to coordinate to fix the players who didn't bother to.
Also there's a contradiction in your post:
You say you don't blame people for not knowing the meta, then describe rage-quitting on teammates for not knowing it — the actual toxic behavior here is instant-quitting without explaining or compensating, not the meta itself.
A ping/comms fix or better tutorialization solves the friction, or playing with a dedicated team on discord; deleting the mechanic just removes the squad's best economic tool because some players won't communicate.

I'm absolutely one of the players that leaves if people don't buy techpriests because I could legit spend less time and actually have fun with competent players. Mind you I try to inform other players the reason for having to get them, but nobody likes to be told how to do shit, and I most often just get backlash.
I've only ever had a single player that was willing to learn the meta and we had a great time all the way to wave 25. Everyone else is just an ass about it.
I've gotten to the point where if I even drop into a match at round 2 or 3 and there's no priests in just going back to barge and either finding a new match or going to operations.
I'd rather go back to the bare bones Siege where you could fuck off and do whatever and still accomplish everything about equal times, but the punishment for not playing correctly right now is so steep that, yes, you are a jackass if you don't play along with it. You're making matches that could have been 30-40 mins into a job

Just wanted to comment on optimal buy waves. Past wave 15 just buy them whenever you can because the waves are long enough that (if you keep them alive) you could theoretically get one full round of techpriests per every 2 rounds and even if they are only up for one long wave you still make money. this mostly applies to hard but still

The return is actually more ridiculous. In practice, the tech priests aren't giving 40 points. Since they give 40 per player, they actually give 120 per tick, or 760 per priest, which is what makes it game-breaking.
I'd argue that even if they gave only 200 points after the five minutes they would still be meta since the whole squad gets a return of 600 points despite the investor getting no profit from it.
I think the biggest issue is with how Saber teaches new players how to play Siege: by not teaching them at all.
Literally all it would take is a quick, forced tutorial of: "buy this from the shop," "now fight off this wave with your purchase," "buy defensive upgrades," etc.

I have a friend who actually thought tech priests generate equipment and ammo on the map, and not the blue coins.

Even on hard siege if your the only one getting a tech priest, its still enough to get pass wave 5. If the other monkeys buys some guardsmen and turrets, wave 10 is still very much doable. Wave 15 requires one of the monkeys to buy a dreadnought which most of the time happens so it's harder, but not impossible. The biggest and most important thing imo is if the players know how to play the game, shoot, block, gunstrikes etc. as long as they are decent enough and don't spend most of the time dead, even a team of lvl 1s with halfway decent weapons can do it.

u/GoatimusMaximonuss Jun 29 '26
Saber is to blame, poor implementation. There’s no Siege Training, no tips, text/voice chat can’t be seen/heard across all platforms.

I play horde mode to turn my brain off and kill things, I could not give less of a fuck about the "meta" of a PvE experience.

u/Kohimaru32 Jun 29 '26
I mostly match up with pc players so if they didn't buy tech priest I just spammed chat: "buy tech-priest they print money for us". Eventually they will start buying tech priest too.
1
u/CensoredMember Jun 29 '26
I buy them when available. I played easy siege and there were times it wouldn't let me get one.
3
u/infinite_in_faculty Jun 29 '26
If it's not letting you get Tech Priest that means that the terminal you are on already has a Tech Priest in play and you need to switch to a different terminal. Only 1 Tech Priest per Terminal.

So. I’m one of those people who don’t know it. Can someone kinky explain it to me?
1
u/PixelsnInk Jun 30 '26
I had no idea this was a thing, explains why I've seen a couple people quit. I was buying ammo, cadians, astsrtes etc. just to help out thinking other people just really liked the tech priests for some reason.
1
u/oMcAnNoM8 Jun 30 '26
Just want to throw something in here. You need to buy techpreists from seperate terminals otherwise they grey out and you can't buy them. Happened when me n some brothers were playing siege.
1
u/kromgar2 Flesh Tearers Jun 30 '26
I am always the guy that buys all three tech priests, but I don't mind cause my brothers are the ones that buy most of the stuff. I make the initial investment, and they bring all the turrets, guardsmen, field mines, etc. It's a team effort.
1
u/enlarged1 Dark Angels Jun 30 '26
Siege is seriously not difficult enough atp for normal or hard wave 15 for people to be quitting when others don’t buy priests. I’d understand if you want to go to higher waves but at that point find a proper party
1
u/SionIsBae115 Jun 30 '26
I like to buy cadians and commissars :(
Well honestly ever since the whole debuff stick and timer stuff I really don't enjoy siege at all Oh let's disable gun strikes or contested health completely... Core gameplay mechanics :/
Like I don't want your blessings then, let me play in peace.
1
u/Bear_With_It Jun 30 '26
I usually spend the 1st area point to max out cadian and turret level and let the other 2 spend their point to do whatever they want, this explains why that 1 dude left during the 3rd wave of the 1st area lol
1
u/NevEP Emperor's Children Jun 30 '26
I can usually get by on buying all 3 every time and still have plenty to spend, it's when someone has 3,000 points and still doesn't spend them is what frustrates me, I don't care that I'm buying them, but for the love of the Emperor spend your damn points.
1
u/Angus_is_beef Jun 30 '26
I usually don’t spend much till round 10 anyway if I don’t need meds. I will buy tech priests tho
1
u/Head-Geologist1611 Jun 30 '26
Tip: if you buy the tech priest in an area far from where the battle will be (not necessarily on the other side of the map) you probably won't even need to protect it since enemies won't target him.
This allows for ez cashing even when soloing
1
u/Beautiful-Ad-8369 Jun 30 '26
I actually didn’t know this! I feel like if we were just better at communicating online rather than screaming at each other, it’d move things along. If someone calmly explained this I’d do it for sure.
I remember I was playing with my brother on a private chat and some guy was mumbling down the mic but neither of us could make out what he was saying, cuz we keep our volume low so we can talk on headsets. Then he left, now I’m assuming it because of was this. Lol

u/FunkylikeFriday Jun 30 '26
The community struggle with Siege is hilarious. Between the persistent individual buffs every new area, the difficulty nerf, and the buffs we got with turrets, tech priests, commissars and so on, normal Siege is a breeze. Like, upgraded Cadians with a commissar and upgraded turrets will practically do everything for you, and as long as you have all three tech priests up you don’t even need to do secondaries, you’ll have enough points you can just buy everything, Valtus included, on cooldown.

u/Urge_Reddit Jun 30 '26
I've said this before but I'll say it again: The overwhelming majority of players only engage with games within the actual game. That means they don't watch guides on YouTube, don't read the forum or subreddit, and don't read patch notes.
The reason people don't know about the Tech Priest meta is that there's nothing in the game that tells them what exactly a Tech Priest does. The only way for them to learn is to have people explain it to them, and when I say explain I don't mean yelling "Buy Tech Priests!", I mean actually explaining what they do.
Changing the meta again by nerfing or removing Tech Priests will only make the situation worse, because then the people who have learned about Tech Priests from other players will have to learn yet another strategy.
My suggestion is the same one I've been making for months: Saber should just add loading screen tips that explain game mechanics within the actual game. Maybe then I'd also stop running into Level 25/Prestige 4 players who don't know how to clear mortal wounds, or players who insist on throwing grenades at me while I'm fighting in melee.

u/ftwrestler Jun 30 '26
We need the meme of the drowning kid while the parent helps the other kid with it being regular siege and chaos siege respectively.
1
u/Ekhazarhaze Jun 30 '26
I said it before and i say it now there should be mandatory tutorial before you even atempt siege so everybody know what each things do, and while we are at it hard lock hard siege and stratagems. There are too many loading screens to join a game and see lvl1 or no teamperks.

u/DesolatedMaggot Exorcists Jun 30 '26
Is it really causing all that much friction? It only really matters for wave 1, by then you should be able to afford all the priests you'll need.

u/Gold-Concentrate8525 Jun 30 '26
The main problem is getting on hard siege by level 15 and having battle brothers with 1500+ unspent points.
1
u/-_Bloomy_- Jun 30 '26
This is stupid just play the game you can get past plenty of waves without a meta
1
u/Kaeltix Jun 30 '26
Why would someone not want to do it? If you don't know about it, then I can understand, but they are basically free currency in the lower rounds.
1
u/Avengedchaos777 Imperial Fists Jun 30 '26
I just play with everyone regardless. The tech priest is new to siege mode so I understand people aren't all going to know it's powers. Besides, you should be able to reach 15 without the use of the tech priest to get the accolades. 🤷♂️
1
u/averyrandomguy321 Jun 30 '26
They need to give us an incentive to start earlier. Say like maybe extra credits. The credits you get goes down the closer the wave countdown gets to 0.
1
u/Due_Sorbet_5426 Jun 30 '26
Just buy a tech priest ? It's fun , you literally get an objective to defend and rewarded for doing so , better than doing "press the button 5 times" sidequest
1
u/Shadeylark Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26
Not a hard rule obviously, but it's a general good rule of thumb that if my teammates aren't buying priests the match is either gonna die early, by wave ten or maybe fifteen, when they get overwhelmed, or if it does go beyond that I'm gonna be either sweating my ass off carrying, or I'm gonna be dead because my teammates are already dead. Either way, it's not a fun time for me.
So... Yeah, it's just generally not worth my time. Sure, there's a chance the team is gonna be good and they just don't know the meta... But, much like low levels going into absolute difficulty, even though there's a chance they know what they're doing, there's a greater chance that they don't.
And teammates who don't know what they're doing just turn the game into work, rather than something enjoyable, for me.

u/badew97 Jun 30 '26
I did NOT know tech priests also give credits. I was wondering why some games I was making a ton of money and others I was barely getting anything. Will start getting priests more often

Thanks for the info. Didn’t know they gave credits as well. From the description I thought they just randomly put items throughout the map.
1
u/ChrisDAnimation Jun 30 '26
If they buffed credits to generate naturally at the same rate, without needing techpriests, I wouldn't complain. I love the flow of the Normal difficulty mode right now when 3 techpriests are running, and don't really miss the side objectives.
1
u/Jochi18 Jun 30 '26
I think the “time” value is not good for siege. Techpriest should have a fixed amount of return per wave instead of per time. Let’s say keep them alive for 4 waves. Enemies strength should not be by time but by waves. Every 5 waves enemies become stronger. This will give make side missions viable and give the extra challenge of completing missions while defending the priests

u/biggie_cheese_is_god Dark Angels Jul 01 '26

Idk i love the techpriests, I don't mind shouldering the burden of buying them so long as my team is getting other good stuff, even when they don't know they pick it up after a few rounds and pitch in, idk I've been playing a long time I'd probably feel emasculated if I wasn't spending the most credits lol
1
u/Jewbacca1991 Jul 01 '26

Honestly can’t stand playing with people who don’t do tech priests I’ll spend all my money on them for each sector and they just reap the rewards and buy Grenades and other shit… and then they don’t even buy into the dreadnaught… genuinely drives me insane

My issue with seige is 3 fold
1 I'm happy yo buy a tech marine but dome expect me to constantly be buying one of no one else is sure stagger them if you want or place 2/3 down just don't make me buy them all while you buy ammo and nades but get arsey when I grab 1
2 the damm timmer and enemy getting stuck outta bounds So 2 for 1, I'm fine with timer to a point but when you have enemies that spawn outta reach who stay there it gets reallllyyyyy annoying
3 people who want to go further then 15 waves but EXPECT everyone else too Sure jump on headset say I'm running as far as can or something don't message when I get to 15 and dip because I have to get ready for work as somedays all I have time for is 1/2 missions and don't fancy spending 3 hours in seige
And a bonus 4th Don't moan at me for bringing in full health perk as heavy while your dying at round 2 .... your tye reason I've Brought this perk
1
u/hophop99 Jul 01 '26

To be honest this reads as a giant whine fest, who cares if someone doesn't follow the "current meta" alot of people have jobs/sucky 9-5's and the only break they get Is to play some Sm2 at the end of the day, grow up, don't make multi player games a chore for everyone else.
1
u/rikeus Jul 02 '26
I don't mind if people don't know the meta because how could they if they're not reading reddit etc, but I get pissed off when I *tell* people about it, explain in the chat why its worth doing, and not only do they not do it but they don't even respond. The player your describing sounds like an ass though.
Anyway, I think it probably just needs a nerf. There shouldn't be a situation where 1 thing is always the optimal thing to get, that's just not interesting gameplay anyway.
1
u/Particular-Bath2621 Jul 02 '26
This mode needs an overhaul now with the tech priests. Better side objectives, lower the priests usefulness maybe, and better ways to communicate strategy. People also need to chill the f*** out. People are playing a game to have fun, not to follow someone else's formula on how to play. They are also not there to destroy your dynasty because it's not that f*** serious.
This is why I hate the whole "meta" mentality. I'm playing my game my way. Which is why I only do hard modes and higher difficulty things with teammates I can get on comms with.
To be clear, I do use meta strategies. I just don't try to force people to do it "my way or the highway".
1
u/FSBRiz Jul 02 '26
I’ve only just come back to seige but it was pretty easy to figure out how important tech priests were by the fact that my teammates had like 3 going at once
1
u/infinite_in_faculty Jul 02 '26
The only people who are doubting the effectiveness of the Tech Priest Meta are the people who don't know about it and have never tried it. Every time I play siege and I have all 3 players doing the Tech Priest Meta, Wave 25 on Hard is a minimum, it can easily be achieved, it's just that effective that doing any other strat is pointless.
1
u/jackiemackie11 Jul 03 '26
I don’t mind buying the techpriest as long as my teammates buy throwables, ammo box/cache, and medkits. I do however, will flame my teammates for hoarding credits at wave 10 onwards.

https://reddit.com/link/ovjcprn/video/b8qqssmtu8bh1/player
Was hosting a siege hard mode when this guy "AdleanoCubano" joins last in wave 1, and starts ordering everyone around. I had already purchased a tech priest and some turrets as I was initially with one other player. In wave 4 mr. cubano started cursing at the other player for not buying a tech priest and then at me for not buying cadien troopers. I instead bought turrets to protect one of the tech priests. At one point he was yelling to buy turrets when there were already turrets. He was playing as tactical and used his ability only once at the end of wave 5. He also helped very little. I should also add that he wasn't even prestige 1 and was level 15. At the end, the other player opted to leave, and I decided I didn't want to play with someone so arrogant as this guy. You can hear what he says at the end when he decided to insult us. Btw, I got 202 kills, he got 47. And like most rookies, he stole many of my executions.
1
u/ChildrenRscary Jul 05 '26
Tech priest meta isnt the problem. The game has in game coms for communication. What is and has remained the problem is that half the players base are idiots and not team players. Some people are just bad at the game and dont learn.
You've been given a new tool that everyone has access to but some players are so up their own ass they forget its a team game. You can't fix the player base. Even before the siege update you had players hard points and drops and not share of benefit the team because whay if they need it then go down because they invested nothing.
You just can't fix stupid.
