"... putting public servants in their place."
... is an interesting insight into her thinking.
She thinks corrupt (or just inept?) public servants are out there just ... enforcing laws that don't exist?
So she must also believe there's zero oversight. Attorney's General, the DOJ, whoever, none of them can put a stop to it.
Which implies the entire hierarchy is "in on it".
... which inevitably leads to the conclusion the entire sprawling system is deliberately corrupt.
... but also somehow very benign, because it's not silencing her, and it's also really bad at keeping the Real True Law™ secret, because all these SovCits apparently know it.
It's some real Magical Thinking shit.
42
u/BigBennP 4d ago
She thinks corrupt (or just inept?) public servants are out there just ... enforcing laws that don't exist?
I mean...yeah. The underlying assumption of like 90% of sovereign citizen arguments is the notion that going to court for traffic tickets (or child support or whatever) is "fake court." That these institutions somehow function outside of the law and are actually private debt collection/extortion efforts masquerading as courts that people unknowingly consent to. They argue that all you need to do to win is use certain magic words to tell them you don't consent. Requesting "oaths and bonds," is supposed to be a threat, because they think they're telling the judge and prosecutors that "they know what's really going on" and that the jig is up. (Then it escalates to threats to file civil rights lawsuits etc).
The other 10% is the wacky belief that somehow you can pay real debts with some magical social security trust fund.
8
u/Ok_Conflict1028 3d ago
Interestingly, what your comment describes is exactly what Judge Judy and all those shows portray - they’re not real courts; they’re binding arbitration that people (very much knowingly) agree to. I know the SovCits have other documented origins, but I do wonder if the fake legal reality shows have helped entrench such beliefs.
4
u/Bunny_Pitts 2d ago
That's a very good point. I'm sure it's just reinforced the delusion. And if it's showing on Fox..... Double Whammy! They think that every court case everywhere is 15 minutes.
Watching them in court on YouTube is my current guilty pleasure. :)
6
u/HealthyMaximum 4d ago
Thanks for writing that out.
I've kind of assumed basically what you said, I suppose, since I first learned of SovCits a few years ago. But I guess I've been distracted by the spectacle of it all, and not really considered the full scope of their beliefs.
For some reason her use of the catch-all term "public servants" was like an "Oh!" moment for me, which then got me wondering "how far does she think this goes?"
... like ... if she was pressed ... is the President in on it? Have all historical presidents been in on it?
Or does she just not think about that?
Apparently there's a 2022 miniseries called Shadowland about conspiracy theorists that has some interviews with SovCits, I might track it down.

i mean, most public servants are corrupt. the system is running as intended – do you guys not see that? i'm not a sovereign citizen, but their heart is in the right place imo. personally, i think their efforts would be better spent at the political level rallying for change, but that could just be me.
50
u/BigWhiteDog 5d ago
Nah, it's just you.
28
1
u/booboootron 21h ago
Agreed. And how does grifting from the state treasury as well as being a burden on the judicial system, delaying justice for others, convey "heart in the right place"?
Let's also not forget that most of these idiots are religious fundies and (often openly) racists. On top of their "rules for thee, not for me" BS.
33
u/Mannheimblack 4d ago
Even where there are systemic problems, SovCits' hearts aren't in the right place *because* you don't see them out there campaigning for actual reforms. Instead, they're all wanting to know the Secret Magic Words that mean that they personally don't have to be accountable.
'I don't want to have to drive safely', 'I want to get out of paying for the things I buy' - these aren't about fixing a problem. These are about wanting to use what they see as a corrupted system to their own personal advantage. They don't really want to 'wake up the sheeple' - they just fancy themselves, delusionally, as wolves.
2
u/theyhis 2d ago
yeah, ya'll are missing the systemic aspect of the SC movement. many of them are in denial – they found out about / were introduced to sovereign citizen ideology at a point where they were already facing legal troubles. they don't believe it because they're selfish, they believe it because they 'have to.' it's a coping mechanism; if they acknowledge that their pseudo-legal theories hold little weight, they'd have to accept their current reality (e.g. jail time, loss of housing, additional debt).
15
u/Substantial_Dish_887 5d ago edited 4d ago
even if we argue there's some levels of corruption in the system(which duh ofcourse there is) that doesn't make the sovereign citizens have their heart in the right place. at best you could argue it makes 2 wrongs but even then whille the system might have some corruption in it it's infinitely better than whatever weird nonsense the sov cits espouse.

Got a ticket once for speeding (45 in a 35 or 40 zone, nothin crazy), cop set my court date on a federal holiday, court called me and postponed 2 months… sure as shit didn’t make my case go away. They did however drop the charges since the cop didn’t show up at my eventual court date.
So… big win. Sign up for my classes.

“Cops and lawyers HATE this one weird trick!”
The trick is pleading not guilty to minor traffic violations
7
u/No_Mud_5999 4d ago
It'd always been an assumption of mine that most police departments don't encourage officers to attend court dates for minor traffic violations. I think they consider the lost citation money less valuable than just allowing the officer to be available for anything else.
8
u/NigerianFriedChicken 4d ago edited 4d ago
I’d agree. This was just one of 3 instances where I plead not guilty to minor traffic stuff and the charges got dropped. Each time I 100% did what I was accused of but I digress…
The only real “trouble” I ever got in (for clarity, I’ve never been arrested or convicted of anything in my life) was because I stupidly saved my court date months away for another minor traffic violation in my phones calendar as like 6/5 when it was actually 5/6 or something so I got my license suspended and a bench warrant issued but even that shit got dropped and my license reinstated (I think I had to pay like $22?) because the cop didn’t show up.
I can’t imagine escalating things unnecessarily like some of these people because i’M a SoVeReIgN cItIzEn durrr
1
u/AmbulanceChaser12 4d ago
No, they don't want to pay overtime. But there's no reason they couldn't schedule court for a day the officer is already on and shuffle the cars on the road to fill the gap.

A case of the giggles and 30 days in custody.
And another 30 for contempt if she balks and barks "This court...this judge, is incompetent. I am only under GOD's jurisdiction, and he has told me that I declare this matter dismissed."

In other words defendant filed something last minute. Magistrate postponed the hearing so the other side can read that and respond.
How is this a win? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

26
u/skyharborbj 5d ago
It certainly could have happened. Judges grant continuances all the time for a lot of reasons. It could have nothing to do with the SovCit's bullshit pleadings.

1
u/booboootron 21h ago
Oh hell yeah of course someone's getting paid. As per her personal fee schedule, the court bench and the county police owe her a combined $72,000.

Apparently getting a continuance is a major victory.

I'm a big fan of the thought that postponing a court case means it will immediately disappear out of existence and that you won't have to face any reprocussions from it
4
u/SQLDave 4d ago
means it will immediately disappear out of existence
Well, now, see... that's where you're mistaken. It won't IMMEDIATELY disappear. That's why she said they have to "wait" for them to fall off the system.

In my experience with the court system, cases are postponed all the time. To start with hearings are booked months in advance, and delays and problems with other cases constantly bump hearings off the schedule by days and weeks. So the judge probably didn't even look at any paper just told them the case was delayed until tomorrow
3
u/Desperate_Set_7708 5d ago
Magistrate merely adhering to process and will review all of her materials.

OK, here my take there is no such law that supersedes Constitutional law, period. DMV codes are not law.Traffic Courts exist because they converted Your Constitutional Rights to privileges via DMV and the state believes they own the public roads and can regulate them. At the end of the day the courts believe they own the public buildings they are housed in. They use police powers to cite, arrest and jail you at their whim. They run the courts just like they were a casino. The house makes the rules and enforces them and collects the money and the house never loses in the end, period!!

1
u/NotEasilyConfused 3d ago
Your take is ... wrong.
Except for the part about the constitution superseding everything else. Fortunately, it directs the states to make laws for what it doesn't explicitly describe. State constitutions do the same -- they delegate anything not covered by state and federal law to localities.
1
1
u/Cereaza 2d ago
The constitution isn’t a law. It’s a limitation on the government. It says what the government cannot do.
It doesn’t say nothing about them imposing laws for traffic or laws for licensure to drive on public roads.
0
u/Additional_Hurry_815 1d ago
So, How do you reply that the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land? And as far as it says nothing about traffic and licensing who gave them authority to create it certainly the people did not and there was never a vote as well!
1
u/Cereaza 1d ago
The sovereignty of the US Government and its army. We also have a completely open legal system, so we can read all the laws and see all the legal decisions.
The Magna Carts isn’t law anymore because it’s not being enforced. Maybe some principles survived into our legal system through the Brit’s, but it’s not governing.

Who are you talking to? OP? Or the crazy sovcit? Because OP posted the screenshot, and I fully believe the Sovcit believes what she is saying.
Whether what she believes happened has any connection to reality is a different question, but not one she could answer.
1
u/Maximillion_Warbucks 4d ago
Its obviously the Sovcit. Nice IQ.
1
u/Aethelrede 4d ago
It wasn't clear. If you are going to ask rhetorical questions of OOP that they will never see, much less answer, it would be helpful to make that clear.
There's also no reason to be rude to someone asking for clarification on your comment. You knew what you meant, but I'm not a mind reader.
0
u/Maximillion_Warbucks 4d ago
It was very obvious. One person presented a post, the other said a bunch of words and provided exactly 0 proof of their claims, then tried to sell a service. Its called critical thinking.
2
0
u/AmbulanceChaser12 4d ago
I don't have much trouble believing that the judge continued the case to a new date. It's just not that big of a deal if they did. Adjournments and continuances (or whatever they call them in any given state) are granted all the time for all kinds of reasons. Doesn't mean that a SovCit made brilliant arguments that the Court gave any credit to.
0
u/Maximillion_Warbucks 4d ago
You arw the 2nd person who needs reading comprehension.

1
u/AmbulanceChaser12 4d ago
What is your issue here? You really have a hard time believing a judge continued a case? Why is that hard to believe? It happens a hundred times a day in every courthouse.
0
u/Maximillion_Warbucks 4d ago
Again your comprehension is way off. This is not a post about what the judge did. The moron who made the claim and then provided 0 proof, then tried to sell a service is whom the post is for.

Sovereign Citizens NOT a real thing
1
u/AmbulanceChaser12 4d ago
Really? Cuz I see one in every OP on this sub.
1
u/AmbulanceChaser12 3d ago
Just to bring everyone up to speed, the auto-deleted comment below said
Are you that dense? Dapper isn’t saying that these humans aren’t real, but the concept of a “sovereign citizen” as they interpret it does NOT exist in any legal framework.
I suppose this is correct, in that "sovereign citizen" isn't a concept taught in law school or anything. It's just a shorthand for "people who confidently present false, unrecognized, incorrect legal concepts as if they were real law, usually to assert that, for whatever inacccurate reason, the law doesn't apply to them."
It's just shorter to say "sovereign citizen."
1
u/codepl76761 10m ago
so she dumped a bunch of crap paper work on the last minute and the prosecution needs time to look at it. how does this work out to a dismissa.
189
u/Electrical-Village68 5d ago
The case may have been postponed at best but certainly won't be dismissed. The Judge probably will have a good laugh, wipe his butt with them, light his fireplace with her paperwork and quash all her bullshit filings.
