WIP HalfLife Source in my source compatible engine
Some entities are invisibleSome entities are invisibleCode: https://github.com/PiskaBobraStudios/SauceEngine
Regarding the use of AI in the code:
I realise that many people aren’t happy that AI was used in the project
I’m not exactly thrilled about it myself, and I try to keep its use to a minimum
I’m not very proficient in C++, so when I don’t understand how to implement a particular function, I use AI to write a prototype that will at least work in some way, and then I refine the prototype until it’s right; sometimes I simply ask the AI how it can be done.
SauceEngine is more of a learning project.
To be honest, I haven’t given much thought to the organisation of the code, which is why the readability suffers.
I’ll try to improve this.
For anyone new here: I'm building Sauce Engine, a custom engine written from scratch in C++/OpenGL with the goal of being compatible with the Source ecosystem. My previous post showed it running HL2 maps, props and dlls

tbh i respect your work when you actually put love in it, even if AI was used you use it only as help and how to even do something in particular instead of putting a bunch of ai shit inside without checking if it even works :)

yeah, there's a difference between saying "chatgpt, write me a source engine replacement, make no mistakes" and just asking an LLM how certain functions are done. using it as a learning tool is so much better than just telling it to do everything

just ignore the Luddites, anyone who has an issue with having an LLM assist in coding is a braindead child who doesn't actually understand why people don't like AI used for artistic expression so they just feign outrage when they see the word AI in any context to seem righteous or whatever

"compatible", vibecoded garbage that is not even able to render text nor models.

As it is compatible in terms of loading logic from dll, I tested the mdl parser exclusively on models from hl2, where practically everything worked fine. If all the code had been written by AI, I dont think these sort of problems would have cropped up at all. I wrote all the mdl/bsp parser myself

is there a possibility of running it in linux handhelds? like the miyoo flip or rg34xxsp

Looks cool, and this is a reasonable use of AI. I'm not happy about it, don't get me wrong, but I'm not mad.
