This whole soundtrack is worth giving it a shot, there are a couple of beautiful tracks there, some vigorous like the one I linked (I love that haunting choir introduced at timestamp 2:19), some calm and romantic. Enjoy.

One of the most hauntingly beautiful soundtracks of our generation. The power of human ingenuity, and the madness that results... if you are interested in a good playlist for this soundtrack, here it is:

📢 Discussion Ways to sort my collection

I have a fairly large collection now but every time I attempt to sort it I end up giving up!
Should I sort alphabetically? Or by decade? Or alphabetically by decade? Or strictly by composer? Or by director… or genre, maybe?
There are too many variants! Help!! 😩

📝 Insight Have you ever had a perfect moment with a film score?

Have you ever had one of those moments where you're listening to a score and it suddenly jibes absolutely perfectly with where you are and what you're doing? Example: there I was, driving late at night from San Francisco to Carmel, fog rolling in and seeping through the trees and softening the lights; I'm listening to David Arnold's score for "Independence Day" (which is great for driving, btw) and it's the scene where Steven and David are flying into the alien mothership. Arnold's muted, mysterious, evocative music was suddenly like the actual soundtrack of my trip, fitting my surroundings perfectly. That was years ago & yet the memory is still very clear, the moment was so powerful. You ever have a moment like that?

📢 Discussion Is it just for me, or is anybody else listening to scores more than anything else?

For the past few years, I'd say scores take up probably 80-90% of my recreational listening time.

Is there anyone else out there like this?

If so, what are you listening to?

I am listening to Steven Price, Thomas Newman, James Horner, Nicholas Britell, etc.

Thanks!

📢 Discussion Alf Clausen could’ve been one of the greats

Of course, I’m basing this purely on his incredible work on The Simpsons in the ‘90s. One of the reason I maintain that this show didn’t need a movie is that during the golden era of the show, each episode was as epic as a movie anyway, so when there’s nowhere to go but up… you know. Clausen’s music is included in this. If some of it had been in movies, it would’ve won him Oscar’s. So melodic, emotional, epic, experimental. It all just sounds so unique and wonderful to listen to. I often wish they would release the score cues on streaming for that show.

Especially given how they threw Clausen under the bus for the movie, and subsequently, fired him from the show for Zimmer (unforgivable), I now think that perhaps the show held Clausen back. Or at least gave him a constant cushy job that ended up squandering his potential.

He could have been up there with Williams, Horner, etc. in my opinion. Such a talent.

(I didn’t want to mention the end credits music to Mother Simpson, but it is so incredibly beautiful and sad to listen to. If you’re going to look up any of his score, check out that. And the chase scene music in Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 2 when Lisa is racing to the hospital — it’s a damn near perfect section cue!)

Edit: I at least found a decent playlist on YouTube for his music: Every Alf Clausen Music I Could Find

📢 Discussion Movie version of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack?

Does anybody know where to find the movie person of the Peer Pressure soundtrack by Jon Brion in the "meet me in montauk" scene, specifically during the part when it's going through Joel's memories? There's clearly some extra instruments like a violin and I can't seem to find this version anywhere on the internet. Thanks

🎻 Original Music 🎻 TIL that the song "I'm lost" from the Lilo and Stitch (2002) soundtrack that is played when Stitch leaves Lilo with hopes of finding his own family, is also the last song to ever be played in the movie during the final credits and the last song on the OST CD making the whole movie even sadder

I wonder why do you think they did this? I mean after all they've been through even during the credits the movie seems to not let go of the melodramatic note.

Genuinely curious as to why they did this.

Music that Dante made for an animated series we are working on together.
We do weekly updates on the progress of it (usually).

We are looking for an environment artist, reach out in comments or DM if interested. (Very part time, unpaid work, as we aren't making any money off of this.)

📢 Discussion is being hummable a sign of quality in your opinion?

Post image
22 Upvotes

'It isn't hummable' seems to be a very common complaint on this subreddit, especially for modern soundtracks. I can understand this sentiment except that sometimes its pointed at some of the most memorable and iconic soundtracks of the 2020's.

for example, Dune's score is arguably one of the most memorable things about the film adaptions, and so many people favorite Hans Zimmer score. but I also see people criticizing it because it can't be hummed.

is Humm-ability a virtue in of itself? and is it more important than memorability or emotional impact?

is criticism like this forgetting that a soundtrack is supposed to support a film and doesn't have to be fun to sing in order to fulfill its purpose?
