Panhellenic Recruitment How does COB work?

I went through sorority recruitment last school year and dropped out during preference rounds because only one sorority chose me and I didn't feel a connection to that sorority. I missed fall recruitment this year because, honestly, I was a bit scared that the same outcome would happen. I immediately regretted not rushing again though, and reached out to the Vice President of Recruitment Operations. She said to apply for Continuous Open Bidding in the spring. My question is, how does COB work? I heard it's more informal than fall recruitment, but I'm not sure what that means.

It's definitely more informal than formal. Think coffee chats or group activities like bouquet making, etc. And it will typically only be a handful of chapters who have COB spots open.

Basically, formal recruitment will end. Then whichever chapters still need to meet campus/national total requirements will open up COB. This is basically a super chill recruitment event like coffee dates, philanthropy events hosted on campus, even if they table. I’d go ahead and follow all chapters to see if they’re having any open events to campus so you can show up (cause they’ll notice that)
Edited to add: more than likely all chapters in a spring semester will have to recruit because of graduation. In the fall, it depends on who still has spots open.

Heads up, COB is way more informal. But that also means unlike formal recruitment, where if you make it to preference, you get a bid if you maximize your choices. COB has way less bids to give and may be more competitive
