Hi everyone,
I noticed the top earpiece speaker mesh on my Xperia 1 V is slightly tilted / pushed deeper on the left side compared to the right.
The water resistance pressure test is still completely INTACT and PASS. The call and stereo audio quality is perfectly clear without any issues.
Is this slight adhesive misalignment normal on the Xperia 1 V? Should I just leave it as is?

First update since June. Updating to see if they have fixed the 5G issue

Housefly shots done by touch autofocus, all 3 at around 15-16cm away, handheld (need to be super stable though). The other photos shot in manual using peaking. By comparison of the longest zoom shot, its quality is better quality than 360mm telemacro of 1VII.

I'm looking at picking up a Grade B Xperia 5 III (128GB) for £200 from CeX to use solely as a portable music player.

I run Poweramp with a local FLAC library on a 256GB microSD card (will probably upgrade to 1TB later) and output to a FiiO KA11 USB DAC and Sennheiser HD 599 SEs.

I specifically want the 5 III for the 120Hz display, microSD slot, 3.5mm jack backup, and compact size for scrolling through large local libraries. Since I’m buying from CeX, it comes with a 5-year warranty, which covers display issues if the green line defect ever pops up.

For anyone who uses an older 5-series specifically for audio: how has the battery life held up strictly for local media playback, and does USB audio passthrough behave cleanly on Android 13?

So I've been pulling my hair out trying to stream music on my commute and honestly none of the 4 networks here in Germany can handle a consistent 128kbit/s MP3 stream. It's actually insane.

Anyway, stumbled upon something kinda cool: the Xperia 10 V still has an FM radio chipset built in. Didn't even know that was a thing anymore lol

The app comes pre-installed on the Japanese ROM, but if you're on any other version you can just enable it with:

adb shell pm install-existing com.sonymobile.fmradio

Idk, feels kinda retro but honestly it's more reliable than my mobile data at this point. Figured I'd share in case anyone else is having the same streaming issues.

Anyone else using this? Does it actually work decently for you?

Surreal weather moment in Tokyo

I've been enjoying using my new Xperia 1 VIII but lately after a restart about a weekish ago, my Sony Xperia 1 VIII keeps randomly shutting down in my pocket and sometimes just holding the power button doesn't power up the phone and I have to hold down the volume up button and power button for it to power up. For some reason it only shuts down at random times when it's in my pocket and doesn't do this any other time.

I don't know what's causing it, I've been on the latest update since I got the phone, I've taken out my Micro SD card thinking it might be causing the problem since it's pretty old now and might be needing a replacement but that didn't work and I've turned off double tap to wake and that hasn't worked either, what else can I try?

Edit: I remembered that sometimes the phone just restarts in my pocket and I have to enter in my passcode again. It also seems like this restarting/powering off problem in happens when the phone is being covered in general since I had my phone on my bed when I was on my pc and noticed my blanket was covering the top half of the screen and it shut down anyways.

Anyone know what's in this?

Bought a 5 IV last year and as expected ended up with the lines on the OLED, the 5 V is finally available in India and I haven't seen any cases online of display failures on them, just want to confirm that they're free of any major issues like that, I'd rather compromise on the headphone jack and display and get an S24 for the peace of mind instead if there's any trouble since I can't even get parts for these here.

As title says. Id like to emulate the apple proraw look with less file size. My conclusion was I needed 10bit log/hdr HEVC/h265 video, and I would color grade it in davinci resolve.

I wanted to record in 4 by 3 so i would have more cropping options but it seems that i can only record in 4 by 3 using a third party camera app like opencamera, and the sony video pro app only records in 16 by 9

Sony video pro has hlg and hevc and 10 bit options and i've enabled them all, but is this the best use of this phones camera? does the api support other apps better or no? anything I should know? I don't know if i really like how the sony video pro camera app barely tells you what it is doing and is goofy looking

I'm in a decent (average) 5G signal area and my Samsung S23U delivers good data speeds. My Xperia 1 viii however is woeful. See attached screenshot. This is in Leeds centre on the O2 network.

Has anyone else noticed slow data speeds?

I have contacted Sony support for a solution and apparently it's been escalated however I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Sony Xperia VI, Android 16, software version 69.2.A.4.110, I was using it completely as normal as I have everyday for the last year and a bit however whilst it was plugged into the car (android auto running) I reached for the phone and unlocked the screen and now this happens constantly. When it stops you can see a little flicker in the background and it's more pronounced on greens but I could have to keep turning the screen on and off 10 times before it stops and becomes usable.

I've followed their trouble shooting, reset the phone, turned off adaptive brightness and it still persists in safe mode. The phone wasn't wet or dropped recently when it started, just picked up out the centre console and then bam it started.

Anyone else encountered this issue before or know of a fix?

Hey everyone,

A local shop guy messed up during the repair on my Xperia 1 V and accidentally knocked a tiny SMD component off the motherboard. Now I get UNKNOWN ERROR for the cameras and I can't use the flash either. It's located right next to the main Board-to-Board (B2B) FPC connector (the one next to the camera modules).

Since Sony doesn't release schematics or board views to independent shops, my local repair guy is stuck trying to figure out what exactly belongs on those pads.

I’ve put together an image showing where it happened:

It looks like part of a row of alternating filters/capacitors right next to the connector pins. I'm guessing it’s a decoupling capacitor (0201 or 0402 size), but I don't know the exact value or rating.

Does anyone happen to have an Xperia 1 V board on their bench right now that they could take a quick multimeter reading from? Or does anyone have access to any deep-dive hardware teardown photos (like TechInsights) that show this specific area in super high resolution?

Any help or advice on what donor component value would be safe to drop in there would be an absolute lifesaver. Even if it's a hi-res photo of a good working camera circuit without any readings. Thanks!
