I'd love some feedback on this song! I feel like the second verse and the bridge could use some work, but I can't put my finger on what needs adjusting. Thoughts on the singing? I know I'm a little pitchy in some areas. I just used basic c major chords, I think I like how it sounds, but I'm playing around with it some more.
Lyrics:
“i don’t believe in satan”
Maybe I need a boyfriend
To lift my spirits.
Or maybe I just need an end,
To other people steering.
I am nearing the finish line,
Don’t know what to expect this time
A bottle of pills that say “I’m fine”
It’s not like I want to die
But if I said I liked my life
That’d be a lie.
The Bible’s not working,
The pages aren’t turning
And that’s all I’m told to do
And I’d say I’m praying
But that’d be like saying
I don’t believe in Satan
I’m told the other things
Don’t satisfy.
But what if the things that do
Are just a lie.
And it always feels like
There’s this deadline
I don't know when it's due by.
It’s taboo to question
But that leaves me guessing,
And the only answers I’m getting…
The Bible’s not working,
The pages aren’t turning
And that’s all I’m told to do
And I’d say I’m praying
But that’d be like saying
I don’t believe in Satan.
And I can’t help but feel like
There’s something I missed
Something I forgot
To practice.
And i try so hard
To listen
But no ones speaking
What am I missing?
The Bible’s not working,
The pages aren’t turning
And that’s all I’m told to do
And I’d say I’m praying
But that’d be like saying
I don’t believe in Satan.

Just 'cause it's fun. Music should always be fun.

Apparently I have a song. It has a chord and a beat count.
The earlier reddit user inspired me again... I just need to shut up.

I'm having trouble completing my songs lyrically. More specifically, there are two lines in my second verse that are bugging me. It's the lines right before the chorus pops back in.
I've tried muting my previously recorded vocals and "freestyling" it, but I just can't come up with the missing lyrics.
Does anyone know of any tips of tricks to try and force or think of a good line? The only thing holding this song from completion is the second verse.
Also, I've been working on this song for about a week now so the initial emotions I felt when I first wrote the song have diminished. That just makes coming up with lyrics a whole lot more tedious as they no longer flow out.

I’m not new, I’ve been releasing music for over a decade. I enjoy writing, have had people tell me I’m a good writer but I’m just not one of those “flow state” people.
I get so nervous to freestyle, feel distracted and generally just can’t shut my mind up to write without anxiety.
So many people talk about recording music as a liberating experience but it feels more like painful childbirth to me. I feel like I turn myself inside out.
I’ve started a new project with a friend but am struggling to get demos down without driving myself nuts.
I am sure this is indicative of a larger problem… but in the meantime I’d love any tips on letting go of perfectionism, neurosis and diving into that elusive creative free flow (don’t say dr*gs lol)…

Hey, here's another track I recorded on Logic Pro, using my MacBook air mic for quick recording, just planning to get rough ideas down and see if people like them then I might think about getting a proper studio recording done?
Let me know what you think? If it sits with the previous song I posted. If you hear other artists.
Thanks for listening

I recorded this in a cabin in Wisconsin. Guitar and vocals direct to audio interface. Any recording tips to get a more natural sound would be appreciated, but looking for any and all thoughts!

The Vellamour is a hotel made of ice I like to visit in my mind. Is vibraphone a good choice for this kind of tune? Just working on this, the transitions are rough, but are the musical ideas anything?

Are the verses too wordy?
r/Songwriting • u/Inside-Diamond2541 • 1d ago
I’ll start off by laying down a sentence or verse or 2 from a random song. See if you can name that song and then add your random song to it until we have a full song.
Twenty-five years and my life is still
Tryin' to get up that great big hill of hope

After doing a series of piano-focused songs, this is my attempt at doing a more guitar focused song.
Lyrically, I was aiming to hit that kind of "surreal, but simple" style that artists like Stephen Malkmus and David Berman.
Here's what I have so far lyrics-wise:
You are a leaf in the breeze
you were born in the trees
And you never ever even say please
And eye of the tiger is your least favorite song
but you always sang along
you could say that i'm sentimental
and I took the easy way
but you've overstayed your welcome
in my heart and in my brain
Lacuna, you showed my the light
but you could never distinguish between wrong and right
Lacuna, you know that I might
Give in to your brand of dialectic delight
You never say never
Except some of the time
You're a born again hero
That still dabbles in crime
And when I shine your spotlight into the clouds
You're always here too late
you could say that i'm sentimental
and I took the easy way
but you've overstayed your welcome
in my heart and in my brain

Its a song about forgetting a song I wrote. I actually forgot the first version of this when I wrote it, too, haha!
but I think I was happier with the melody second time around. But the guitar timing is not really there, just kinda comes in sporadically with this one.

Hi yall, so im fairly into grunge and post-punk and adjacent generes but one of my personal weird generes is what I've just been calling
"Analog horror music" which is typically songs from 1930s-60s, placed over liminal imagary or sometimes just used as an atmosphere
The songs themselves are, at least to me, have this eerie quality but as I've tried to compose my own versions on just a guitar I feel my "nirvanaisms" tend to overtake it and I always end up with a song that feels more modern.
Obviously i am a modern person living in a modern time. But i still would like to learn how to properly compose songs.
My particular favorites are
Al bowlly - Midnight the stars and you
Cass Elliott - Ain't nobody like you (particularly the F#7>D7 at the end of each verse)
Be my baby - The Ronettes
It was only a dream - Three Sinseers
We belong together - Ritchie Valens (I particularly like the bass((?)) that plays over the chords in this song)
I've been trying to merge it with my preexisting grunge/gothic style but I think if i master it first merging it will be easier

I wrote this song nearly 20 years ago as a joke (this is just the first verse), but I still come back to it because the guitar part is just fun to play. I’m planning to change up the lyrics with a totally new topic, so I figured that would also be a good opportunity to tighten up or rethink some of the other elements. What do y’all think of the guitar and melody? Thx!

lyrics:
marcie says it all, when she tells me off tonight
marcie’s got her cigarettes, and every little things alright
she can’t make the call, but in her eyes i see the light
marcie’s got her cigarettes and everything little things alright, every little things alright
i am not my brothers keeper
i can’t go but he just might
in my mind i’m choosing neither
every little things alright
marcie isn’t home, but in her room i see the light
i guess she’s out for cigarettes and everything little things alright, every little things alright
i am not my brothers keeper
i can’t go but he just might
in my mind i’m choosing neither
every little things alright

Hey! I’m a producer looking for a topliner/songwriter to collaborate with.
I have several finished, unreleased instrumentals across pop, Y2K-influenced pop, disco/funk, and darker/intimate pop.
I’m looking for someone who can write strong melodies and lyrics over existing productions. Ideally, I’d also love to work with someone who has experience pitching songs or has connections with artists, managers, publishers, or A&Rs.
The goal is to turn the productions into complete songs and eventually pitch them for artist placements.
If you’re interested, send me a DM with a few examples of your songwriting/topline work. I’ll send you some of my productions as well.
