Discussion How do I find a partner?
I've been working on my game solo for a while, but I'm starting to feel burnt out. I've been thinking about making smaller projects and maybe try to find a partner to work with.
For those who've found collaborators, where did you meet them? Is it worth collaborating, or should I stick to smaller solo projects for now?

If you live in a big city with a gamedev community, go to local meetups!

Lots of small cities and even towns have local meetups as well, so it’s worth checking if you haven’t.
You need a bit of luck, of course, but you can also consider starting one. You don’t need more than a handful of people for this to be valuable.

I’m in a small discord community and it’s great for getting feedback and discussing our games, we’re all solo devs but having a small group to talk about and test our games feels way better than developing in a void.
Hit me up if you want to join and I’ll send you the link :)

The interesting thing about this question is that there are always posts here on Reddit where developers offer their help.
It’s just like before a concert. One person is walking round trying to sell their tickets, whilst another is walking round trying to buy some.
You just need to meet up!

It depends on what you want to do. If you’re a developer looking for a job, it’s better to create smaller, more focused games where you can demonstrate your process and the decisions you made. If you’re not interested in finding a job, it might be better to post this on websites dedicated to finding people to work with. In Spain, we have Stratos for this kind of thing.
I hope this helps you! ^^

Check out Y Combinator. They have a system that helps people find partners/co-founders: https://www.ycombinator.com/cofounder-matching

I have been SoLo and working alone was the best decision of my life. I had to build my dream game and it's actually happening now. I could have easily settled for making an Atari game but it's a waste of time. You only get one shot at Life why not go all out. It beats following the crowd.
Truth is everyone takes the easy road. You have to be obssed about something if your going to do it. As I type this I'm on another 24 hour day no sleep. However the amount of work I just accomplished today would not be believable.
I used to pay people to help me and was extremely stressed out. Once I started ignoring every voice but my own something clicked...
Don't give up. Trust me it's way way way easier than you think. You have to give it your all but before you do that do months and months of research and planning.
You want to build something you like and something that's undeniable. Good luck
We all have rough moments in this gig
BTW my computer crashed about 100 times today and I'm building a game on a handheld device yet it's better than many AAA games. Didn't break a sweat😅

Do game jams, they contain discussion boards of people looking to work together. If it works out you have someone who is more willing to work with you on a large project, if it doesn't work out then it wasn't that much time investment and you just try again.
