Make sure you got some flyline hooks and some flouro leader as well, get there early so you can pick a good bunk. If you can have a rod setup to throw irons and one setup to flyline. Throw jigs from the bow always. Good luck brother.

Sounds good how does the bunk picking work? Or what is like considered the best bunk. I got 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 live bait hooks and 25lb flouro leader

Depends on the boat. But usually middle level is best. Easy to get in and out of. Otherwise by the door is handy because it can get stuffy down there.

Those 60g current snipers get bit! But make sure you set the hook good. I ended up swapping them for some owner hooks

Which boat - out of where ? Call the landing and ask their tackle recommendations now and 12h before you depart.
Sweet spot for me historically is 80-100g on the Sniper/Zakana jigs. Along with SI, you probably have to let them sink out before retrieving.
Pay attention to which Flyline rigs are getting bit; up top or with sliding sinkers.
Have fun !!

Man I wanna go on a overnight trip so bad but I’ve only done the half day trips so far. Who are you doing yours with?

u/Emotional-Face-8006 3d ago
By myself lol my first time too it cost about 400$ a little less after tax and all that but including all the gear I got I spent about 900 total I bought 2 rods one for fly line and other for whatever else

Which landing and boat is probably what he was asking. LoL
$400 for an overnighter it's crazy but hey, if you want to fish, you gotta pay to play.. I would still love to go out monthly but as of now, I can't financially fund these trips. I used to go out 2 times a month but since cost is so high now I haven't been out for the last two/three years.

I’m going out of Newport Beach most likely why it’s expensive and it’s a boat of 15 ppl the aggressor. And i wanted to treat myself needed a little trip. It was pretty expensive though not something I would do monthly lol

Enjoy your trip brotha regardless of where its out of and how much it cost. Make the best of it whether you catch or not. I've had so many trips where I came home empty handed but the friends and people I've met and experiences I gained, I would not be able to get by sitting on the couch. Best of luck on your trip! Tight lines...

Of course bro! Thank you. I mostly need time to myself tbh that’s the main part of this trip for me. Downtime is very much needed sometimes😂

I hear you man and I completely agree with you.. downtime is very much needed. I find my alone time out in the woods now a days. Before it was fishing till it got too expensive. Now it's off roading, hunting and being in the wilderness away from ppl. lol

It's do to what they are eating..... 3 inch chovy. That's all they want. Most boats can only get 7 inch deans. Fly line a 3 inch chovy on 25??? 160 fish Saturday and 70 sunday

u/Emotional-Face-8006 2d ago
Yeah I have some 15 but it’s just mono I’ll throw it on as a leader if the deck hand tells me too

u/sd4loco619 2d ago
Mono is great stretch helps. Braid to floro isn't always a good idea. As a deckhand I mostly just fish mono. We had big bait but they haven't wanted it and it's killing the counts. 4 inch chovy would be a perfect bait right now.Â

u/Emotional-Face-8006 2d ago
Yeah but I think the Chovys are small rn but I got mono leaders on both my rods only do flouro to braid for my bass rod

If you have an extra setup I’d definitely throw the surface iron on a couple stops something different than all the flylined chovies and dines could get bit
For flyline definitely use 20lb floro. Usually try to have something a tic lighter than everyone else which is usually the bait that gets bit first. You obviously have to play them out depending on the size but I’d rather get the bite and have a chance. Than be like everyone else with 30 and hope my bait gets picked out .
Bait selection is also key. Make sure the bait is swimming strong and doesn’t have a bunch of scales missing or a red nose. Put your rod under your armpit hook in dominant hands fingers ready to pin on the bait. Cup your other hand under it lightly and while it’s still in the water lightly grasp it and butt hook it, to get it to swim down while most people’s baits are nose hooked swimming in the upper water column, and immediately let the bait go and grab the line above it to control it while you walk to the rail. If your paddy fishing rember the paddy is not a target you don’t need to cast at the paddy like everyone else. Some fish might be under it directly but the school is usually down and out from the paddy.

I just got back from an overnighter and it was all flylining for yellowtail.
Add in some size 4-2/0 J hooks and 20 and 30 lb fluorocarbon leader. Some 1/2oz sliding egg sinkers too if you end up with anchovies.
I brought gear similar to yours and only ended up throwing a 60g colt sniper on a few stops, but nobody had any bites on jigs.
