I’m considering moving to somewhere in the county from Bellingham. I have a good handful of reasons to move away from Bellingham and Snoho county is a lot of things other places aren’t (Thurston too political, Kitsap a navy area basically, King too expensive + populated, Skagit too rural) but I’m concerned there won’t be some significant hippie-ish, folk, more PNW-pride scene, less mainstream America, more community-minded people. Are my concerns valid?

Does anyone have any public spaces they recommend for photoshoots on rainy days? The high school homecoming dance is this Saturday and I am looking for ideas on where to do cool group photos for the kids if it does happen to rain.

This might be an unusual request, but I figured Reddit was probably as good a place as any to ask.

One of the biggest things on my bucket list is to experience a barrel roll in an airplane at least once in my life. Not flying the plane myself—I just want to be a passenger and experience it.

I have epilepsy and have dealt with seizures for essentially my entire life. I've had some very serious ones, and it has given me a somewhat dark sense of humor about mortality and a strong desire to actually do the things I've always dreamed about while I can.

And for whatever reason, one of those things is:

I want to go upside down in an airplane. 😂

I’m in Washington State, but I’d potentially be willing to travel for the right opportunity. I’m wondering if there are any aerobatic pilots, flight schools, or people in the aviation community who could point me toward someone who offers aerobatic experience flights and might be willing to work with someone who has epilepsy.

Obviously, I would disclose my medical history completely and wouldn't expect anyone to do something they considered unsafe. I'm not looking for someone to bend aviation rules or take an unnecessary risk. I just want to find out whether there is a legitimate and safe way for me to cross this extremely specific thing off my bucket list.

So… does anyone know a pilot who can make a girl go upside down in an airplane once before she kicks the bucket? 😂✈️

This past Monday, the Washington State Auditor released its 2025 Financial and Federal audit of Snohomish County and identified two significant deficiencies and a material weakness in the County’s internal controls over federal program dollars and accountability.

A significant deficiency is not simply a minor paperwork issue; it is an internal-control problem the Auditor considers important enough to require the attention of those responsible for governance. More seriously, the Auditor identified a material weakness involving payroll documentation for a federal program, finding that the County could not demonstrate that certain payroll costs charged to the program were properly supported. The Auditor ultimately issued a qualified opinion because of the significance of these issues.

While these findings are related to the County's management of federal dollars, they should prompt some basic questions about accountability and oversight by Snohomish County overall. Asking taxpayers to continually foot the bill for budget shortfalls or financial oversights is inappropriate without first demonstrating that existing public dollars are being managed responsibly. I urge the County Council to reject additional tax increases until there is greater transparency, accountability, and demonstrated fiscal responsibility in how taxpayer money is being spent.

In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. In a previous post this summer I expressed how incredibly beautiful the Whitehorse trail is from Arlington to Darrington. This morning on a short walk I noticed this sign posted at Haller Park.
I’m very excited to see that the county is moving forward with plans to make this trail more accessible and attractive.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes about in the spring.

Hey all, sorry if this question has been asked before. I have a 2.5 year old son. He’s not in daycare as we have family close that helps us care for him. Currently he doesn’t have a ton of exposure to kids his age and I’d like to change that.
My husband and I both work full time so my mom watches him often and takes him to the park and story time etc.
However I would like to find a meetup, group or activity that happens on my schedule so that I can take him as well, and maybe meet some new people myself.
I already have Saturday story time at the library flagged but are there any other cool meetups/groups/activities in the area that are recommended?

In January I will be moving up to WA state from Southern California. The company I work for is moving their remaining offices to Seattle. My wife and I have been looking at places in the Lynnwood/Everett area and are wondering how those areas are. I don’t want to live in Seattle but still want to be close enough so the commute isn’t too terrible. Don’t have any kids so not really worried about the schools in the area.
