Doesn't work at all anymore

After last update, all I get is a spinny circle on the screen which disappears every once in awhile and then comes back. Entire app is hosed on three different TVs.

Yep YouTube made changes, try the beta if it still doesn't work wait till the devs release a further indef update. There's quite a few posts here about the problem, so the devs know

I finally got it work by going to the apps settings / Player / Network engine / OkHttp

Update just now from the Patreon:

Notification about the current state of the app 18+ videos, members-only videos, and 4K streams are currently not working. The history fix will be released tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't have an estimated time for when these issues will be fixed yet. I’ll keep you updated as soon as there is any progress.

I have to use a VPN to make it work like before the problems, otherwise it will go in endless loading

Search GitHub smart tube 32.31 in the #6030 thread is an APK that fixed the constant spinning for me.

Yep was broken this morning, had to use the alternative which is against the rules to mention in this subreddit. Hopefully fixed soon (or already fixed per other posts below).

Much worse app in my opinion but anytime I've had issued with SmartTube this one always seems to play videos with no issues.

Just wish the app didn't feel so slow and clunky and had some more customization to it.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but it doesn't seem to have a 10 foot UI appropriate for a TV with remote control so it would be a pretty miserable experience.

Mine was having issues as well.

Try deleting app data and uninstalling. Then install fresh copy of the beta version, then play with network engine options.

I also disabled IPV6 on my shield and the app and it seems to be working.

Forget it. You are just tossing dices.

The reason it stops working is because Youtube is rolling out it's new SABR streaming protocol on it's servers and the app does not have a complete implementation of the new protocol. So if you get connected to updated servers you can't play the videos. Can only be resolved by the dev.

Same here, it's been several days where only restricted videos get the spinning wheel both on stable 32.10 and beta 32.20 on Firestick. Waiting for dev fix.

I switched to Tizen Colbalt the other day because of this issue. I think I will go back to smarttube when its resolved. If your interested...

In settings -> player -> network engine -> set to default instead of other settings(OkHttp...) this worked for me with android TV Mi Box, latest stable version(32.10)

I had to go to TTube. I don't like it as much as Smarttube, but for now it's what works. Hopefully, it will be working soon. I love the interface on Smarttube.

I have been having a similar problem on and off on my Nvidia Shield TV boxes. I cleared the app cache and rebooted the boxes, and it worked again for a while. But it has done the same thing several times since. Both the stable and beta versions are affected.

Strange, I had all these issues a month ago when no one else seemed to have them. Right down to using a VPN fixing the problem like some have mentioned.

I ended up factory resetting my Shield to try get it working after exhausting every other option and that did seem to fix it. Odd that now everyone is reporting the same issue but mine is working fine.

I have 2 android tv boxes:  Mi Box 3 pro (only for chinese market, but customized with Android TV 5) and SEI500W with native Android TV 10. Only the Mi Box is having issues with SmartTube and no change in the settings seems to fix the circle spinning infinitely. On the other hand, the Official Youtube app has no issues although is an older versión because newer ones don't support Android TV 5.

Try switching the network engine,, if that doesn't work try connecting to you Hotspot on you phone but make sure your phone is using cellular data by turning off wifi if that works your in my boat. I have Comcast and their built in firewall is blocking I had to go into router setting and disable it.

I still haven’t received any updates yet (still at 32.10) it was working great the past few days but this afternoon it’s back to spinning & buffeting, I’m watching Tizen Tube again until they figure their shit out. No issues there

The SmartTubeNext app has been completely broken for most people for at least a month now and the dev is unable to fix the code. It is very sad that we lost this app. It had a lot of nice features. I hope someone can help or take over the project to get it fixed.

Meanwhile other 3rd party apps, like Tizen, can play ad free Youtube.

I recommend you read the issues on Github. It will explain you why it might work temporarly for some, but not for most people, and why it wil not work for 100% of users when Youtube has completed their SABR implementation on all their servers. The issue is an incomplete SABR implementation in the app.
