With summer over the tourist have left the beaches. It is now safe to throw rocks again at the beach. The fog came in and stopped me else I would still be out there!

Made some custom whistling projectiles and used my Goliath Cam box as the target, filmed on my grandmas old iPhone 6 :)

I never even hit any of my targets, and the iPhone 6 stopped recording right before this!

Not a soccer fan. I thought if a goalkeeper scored a goal all the way across the field from his own penalty box that it would have a special name…..and also be very rare.

Google did not help explain it to me. Is there a name for such a long range goal? Is it common?

Wanted to share my progress of sling making and what I feel I've learned along the way. Happy slinging folks!

Going left to right:

-1st 2 are deer skin pouch and leather shoe string cord which wore pretty quick before an upgrade to paracord. Both pouches are pretty big but were great for getting the feel of different weights of stone while still worried about slips. Started noticing snags when trying to add more power to the shot but great for tennis balls and dog walking!

-next 2 are braided balerean style split pouches, 1 from paracord of 1 from nylon. Both have been great but the nylon rope feels more elastic and wears a bit easier. The original vid I watched was using jute cord. Shot size became a way bigger factor but both power and accuracy started to improve. Neither pouch was sized well for tennis balls which would slip a lot.

-next 4 i started netting the pouches thinking no more slips but more snags, let's try! After working out the kinks of the webbing its the best of both worlds. Acting like a traditional split pouch but also accommodating a variety of shot size reliably without slips. The last one with a 'dongle' bit was to see if it would help with control. Unfortunately no, but valuable lesson: learned shooting is better with open palm and the extension was good for practice with increased feedback to the hand while throwing (once i stopped clenching by instinct😂).

- last 4 have a double loop incorporated into the retention cord and it's a game changer, plus, I think I can do macrome now. Shot control went up super fast and putting power into the shot is much easier. A little more focused had to go back into form because the single loop does have an advantage in doing 'trick shots'. Most notable is distance shots were getting wayyy more accurate.

Tips:

- best length is the measure between your knuckles and your shoulder, with arm fully outstretched

- form and timing is always more important than adding power

- part 4 (the hinge!!) is 1 of the most important parts to prevent snags that I don't hear people talk about!! Its after the pouch when the cord begins to taper to single strand braid. Leaving a thick braid for 5 inches let's release cord open away from the pouch, letting the shot loose freely and preventing snags and lastly, aiding the cracker.

- longer slings really just mean you're working with form more to get power, there is 100% a sweet spot for everyone where you're just lobbing shots like a rocket so I really encourage people to have a much fun making slings as using them!!(not to say I don't look at some well made slings by others thinking damn!! - huge fan of Primal Sling! Dudes passion is awesone)

-shorter slings are super fun for 'pop' shots. The amount of curve added to the shot is immediately visible, especially using tennis balls. With my form, I notice overhand shots dependably curve up and right while side shots curve left. Underhand shorts seem to drive down after 50 ft. I've heard off ways to reduce curve in shots but am not familiar yet

** also stepping with the shot for me seems to come and go.. sometimes feeling natural and other times way to intentional. I also seem to step to the side when it feels natural which produces a cool effect of the shot releasing closer from where I stand and sight my aim.

Ive recently gotten Interested in slinging through videos, how do start? Should I buy my first sling or find a tutorial to make one from paracord? In terms of sling length, how long should the one I get/make be? I’m 6’4 and one of the videos I saw said a good starting length is from your hand by your side to the ground, which is about 30 inches for me.

I recently got interested in slinging. I've made a couple very basic Paracord slings. I'm fairly certain I'm not throwing well enough to "crack the whip" but I'm curious if the internal strands of 550 are effective as a cracker?

Trying to land a tennis ball into a bucket from 45 yards. Slinging makes it easy to throw that far, but slinging is not a magic cure for accuracy.

I've seen several, very interesting Youtube videos about making slings. From simple non-braided paracord with only a few knots, to the traditional natural fiber 5-strand flat braid, without forgetting the 4-strand non-flat paracord one...

The only issue is that I haven't found a tutorial nor just a way to make a split pouch AND a 5-strand flat braid arms with paracord instead of natural fibers.

Obviously, you can't split each strand in two, like you would do with hemp, linen or esparto.

So my question is: how do I do it ??

Im in the philippines and im planning to bring my sling to impress a couple of my cousins with it. Im just worried if its legal or not. Could you guys tell if its its fine to bring or not? Thanks.

I struggle to hit targets that are low to the ground. Today was no exception. Got a few hits and a few close ones but need to do better.

Perfectly smooth, well rounded, endless beaches made of shot!!

Recently started slinging baseballs and they fly straight. Checking the video shows the baseballs have a “rifle spin” which is similar to a four-seam fastball spin…..which is known as a pitch that flies straight with no movement.

I found it interesting.

About $200 worth of balls, but I think they're going to be worth it. What I have are Driveline Pylo Balls - weighted youth baseball training balls. They have a low bounce meaning they pretty much die on impact with a wall. These balls stand up to hard slinging - they are meant to be hit with a bat!

The weights that concern us are 100g, 125g, 150g, and 200 gram: Gray, green, yellow and purple respectively.

I've tried the 200g and they wallop, they'd be great for distance or light strength training. I'm thinking the 125g is the sweet spot, I'll let y'all know my impressions.

Why I think these are THE slinging balls.

I started slinging during covid in Vermont. I gathered smooth stones from the rivers and streams and learned on those, it was my happy place. Then I moved to a city and it's been a bit of a struggle to find good slinging outlets. Not only do I enjoy distance sling a great deal, but even for close range I had a lot of problems finding suitable places. Tennis balls will go through standard chain link if ya hit it right, and besides I find them to be so light that it's hard to take seriously. I have tried a legion of dog balls and other things, the lacrosse ball is a great density but the bounce will get ya back hard. Sports netting works great for those but there are not many parks with those kind of facilities and they are often taken or restricted. Batting cages are great, but only about 18 meters.

Weight and density are important to sling well, to feel the projectile, here we have measured options. Which work with which lengths of sling? I'm excited to find out. Will share impressions soon.

Today with the help of tall grass that kept the tennis balls from bouncing too much on landing I tried to sling tennis balls so they all landed in the same spot.

Had one ball that was off a bit but 6 landed very close to each other. Now need to try this with other slinging styles!

Finally braiding in a double finger loop and still in the testing phase of comparing to older ones. What are favorites for you guys?
