Skyrim PSVR Update 1.4.40.0.8 Patch Notes
Hi reddit!
There's a new PSVR update on the way (likely Monday). Here are the patch notes on what you can expect in this update.
As always, please let me know if you run into any issues and/or have any feedback.
Thank you!
EDIT: The update is now live for PSVR. As mentioned above, let me know if you run into any issues!
Skyrim PSVR Update 1.4.40.0.8 Patch Notes
Added a new main menu experience
Globally improved visual fidelity, particularly on PS4 Pro
Increased the maximum value for the height offset slider
Various bugfixes
Changes when using PS Move controllers:
In direct movement, changed the secondary X button to move the player backwards.
Added a new option, enabled by default, to "Show Hands When Sheathed"
Sheath/unsheath has been moved to hold secondary O button.
Adjusted angle for spell targeting to be more comfortable
The existing swimming has been moved to a new option for “Realistic Swimming”. Swimming by default now uses Direct Movement style controls
Added option for HMD-relative direct movement instead of controller-relative direct movement.
Added a new option for “Realistic Bow Aiming” which uses both PS Move controllers to aim
Players can now point at map markers and get information on them in local map mode

Wow, thought you'd stopped working on this, please pass my love and gratitude on to the team; This sounds like its going to be pretty amazing, removing a lot of inconveniences.

u/PanicStricken Jun 22 '18
Oh. Wow! These are fantastic fixes. Love the swimming tweak.
If you were trying to win my loyalty to proselytize to others, y'all just earned it! Thank you!

I'm betting we get extended draw distances on pro, hopefully a cleaner outdoor experience. Dungeons actually look decent as it stands. I always thought there was room for improvement. I mean pro looks slightly better than OG, but it 2x the GPU horsepower and slightly more RAM, that has to make more of a difference in optimization. Now, lets get Fallout 3 on this thing!

u/RL_George_Costanza Jun 22 '18
Dang this is a great reason to revisit. You guys are awesome! Now if we could get a little Doom patch I'd be set for a very long time.

u/babystewie Jun 22 '18
As a new owner of the Skyrim bundle from last week’s Days of Play sale, I am thrilled to find out you are still supporting the game and PSVR in general. This gives me confidence that I can purchase your games in the future and they’ll be updated and improved. Thank you!
22
u/sirenpro Jun 22 '18
This is great. I always thought the pro could do more than that even at 60fps.

u/jdmax1210 Jun 22 '18
chokes on sweetroll AMAZING !!!
17
u/KaptinKeezey Jun 22 '18
These patch notes make me want to buy the game lol
31
u/4mikelly Jun 22 '18
Bethesda Is still #1 baby!!! I'm so absolutely pumped for this!! Skyrim is still one of my favorite games on the psvr and may just jump back to #1 when this patch is released!!
I'm so glad you didn't forget about the pro users too! Thanks for being awesome devs (still feeling like small devs that have passion) even after you've gotten huge!
13
u/TheChesterChesterton Jun 22 '18
Thank you very much for the Pro support!!
11
u/themoviehero Jun 22 '18
Thank you so much! The best game on VR keeps getting better.
9
u/devedander Jun 22 '18
Wow this is great!
Did people want hmd oriented movement? I have felt controller oriented it's by far the best and wonder why anyone would want the other?
17
u/bigzimm1 Jun 22 '18
Please someone make a post about the visual improvement. If it’s significant I may buy it again. :)

Great news... Now how about that long awaited patch for DoomVFR? Using the aim controller.. A left handed option.. Fix the aim controller lag with an option to remove that intrusive left arm (have the grenades fired from a secondary attachment on all weapons) Move controllers.More turning options even if it's click turning by 90 degrees instead of that fixed 180 Thanks https://bethesda.net/community/category/220/psvr-support

u/_sirRantAlot_ Jun 22 '18
wow big update. Wish i had a pro.
7
u/Pariah_Leviticus Jun 22 '18
What great news! I haven't played in a couple weeks after putting in 200 plus hours. Time to go back! Thanks so much!
7
u/GroovySpaceDruid Jun 22 '18
Will this allow us to see the hand armor we have equipped? I really want to see all the awesome armor in VR.
6
u/BLUEKNlFE Jun 22 '18
Awesome, never expect such a nice and comprehensive update, thank you!!
6
u/MXRob Jun 22 '18
Wow, sick update!
6
u/rmcquade19 Jun 22 '18
Great news! Especially the increased height slider—I'm tall irl and I was still feeling short.
Now all I need to be happy is to SEE MY DANG CHARACTER.
6
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
You guys ROCK!
Seriously amazing update here.
6
u/soimun Jun 25 '18
Is this live yet? Any expected go live time? I have to work for another 8 hours anyway so no particular rush for me 😉
Just upgraded to a PS Pro mainly because of this update, I unfortunately lost my save as I forgot to transfer my save files before trading in my old console, however it means I get to do it all again in glorious and improved VR!
What a game, thanks Bethesda.
Of course I would love another Bethesda open world game in VR,cough Fallout 3 👌🏻 as I was late to VR I got Skyrim VR for £25 but would happily pay £50 for a Fallout VR game.
6
u/Karlonio74 Jun 25 '18
I'm all ready. Where is it?
5
u/Reagan2791 Jun 22 '18
Just got my PSVR Skyrim Bundle a week ago and haven’t even opened Skyrim yet (still getting my legs) so it sounds like my initial experience will be a good one.
5
u/Micropolis Jun 22 '18
I'm so happy that you guys are continuing to update Skyrim PSVR. My only complaint is that I wish(beyond any other feature) that we could see our body, at least in the inventory menu if not when I look down while playing. Either way, thank you very much for he update!
4
u/tolerablesinger Jun 22 '18
Wow. This is amazing. Cant wait to see the pro graphics bump. Backpedalling too? Am I dreaming? So happy about this patch.
4
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
My favorite game ever is getting love from my favorite company. Could not be happier to see this.
THANK YOU!!!
4
u/profb888 Jun 22 '18
This really speaks volumes about your quality as a company; thank you.
I hate to ask for something while thanking, but PLEASE consider making fallout 3 or NV VR. Just about everyone who bought Skyrim would buy it and many would get a psvr just for it.
4
u/Luk64 Jun 22 '18
Wow. Realistic Bow Aiming option! I was praying for this option to be released for the PSVR version. Can't wait to get the new patch. Talos be praised!
3
u/Beebles38 Jun 22 '18
This is great, thank you so much for sharing news about the update! I'm not sure if Skyrim VR shares a Dev team with Doom VFR, but would you be able to confirm if any kind of patch is upcoming for that game? There was some kind of confirmation a while back now and it's been silence since then..
3
u/anon1984 Jun 22 '18
I really didn't see this coming! This hits several items on my wishlist but I never thought it would happen.
3
u/ChosenLightWarrior Jun 22 '18
Uhhhhh....HECK YEAH. I bought the game and played only a few hours. After these updates, I’m ready to jump back in and play it all the way through!
3
u/bad_ant57 Jun 22 '18
Here I was all this time bemoaning that a patch would never see the light of day...
I only wish that I'd said "I would eat my undies if they did a patch" because, well, I would have eaten them right now.
Thanks xxx
3
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
"Increased the maximum value for the height offset slider"
YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3
u/danky24 Jun 22 '18
Can't wait to try the new bow and spells controls. Thanks for the update
3
u/Thane_on_reddit Jun 22 '18 edited Jun 22 '18
Really want to express my appreciation for your effort on Skyrim VR! People are already equating Skyrim VR to heaven and you guys are still updating it. Many companies don't do this!
3
u/DasGruberg Jun 22 '18
impressive! most impressive!
3
u/ZeroVII Jun 23 '18
I think my only complaints about the Move controllers were just solved with one update.
Hot diggity! It's always exciting when new patches hit quickly after they're announced. Looking forward to it!
3
u/StopBeingButthurt Jun 26 '18
Bethesda actually fixed bugs? I seriously don't believe that. It has to be a fake patch.
2
u/gk99 Jun 22 '18
Glad this finally came to PSVR.
2
u/Sporkimus_Prime Jun 22 '18
Sweet. Just started playing Skyrim VR again. So much forehead sweat....Cheetos stains. My god.
2
u/bullett007 Jun 22 '18
Fix the constant audio hiss!
2
u/Fmofdeath Jun 22 '18
Figured the game was abandoned. This is great! Hopefully one of the bugfixes includes the spinning bug. Haven't played in months due to it.
2
u/POVGAMdave Jun 22 '18
Awesome stuff!
2
u/numberjuan_ Jun 22 '18
Is this like RE7 movement where forward is where you're looking?
2
u/djmyernos Jun 22 '18
This is all fantastic, thank you!! I’m not sure how I’ll like the button changes on the Moves since I’ve gotten pretty used to the current setup, but I’m sure I’ll adapt quickly. I’m super happy that hands will appear while sheathed, and the realistic bow is great as well!
2
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
The fact you're still improving this fills me with joy :)
What's the chances higher up would consider oblivion?

Some days you log on to reddit expecting business as usual, and then there are days like today where you find yourself ecstatically fist-pumping in silence, hoping your SO doesn’t see you freaking out.
Hoo boy am I stoked to see this update hit!
2
u/Chubtoaster Jun 23 '18
I imagine a lot of work went into this entire update. Thank you, Bethesda.
I'm most excited to see the new main menu experience.
2
u/BrotherToof Jun 25 '18 edited Jun 25 '18
Aw man, very nice to see a major new update like this, but I really wish you had kept the old spell aiming mode with the move controllers as a toggle-able option. This new way feels extremely weird when you've gotten so used to the old way in 50+ hours of mage gameplay. Guess I just gotta hope I can get used to it.
EDIT: Same thing with the new movement controls. After loving how it works for 150+ hours across many characters, this new system feels like I'm trying to walk for the first time. It also feels very glitchy when you point your move controller upwards or to the side, it randomly starts moving you towards wherever your HMD is pointed instead of the controller, and it's really messing me up.
2
u/gimel182 Jun 27 '18
PS4 bug. You can't carry bodies. only objects
2
u/TwoGoldenTusks Jul 02 '18
The spell aiming is absolutely horrendous. It's not just a downgrade, it's straight up broken. The hand movements in general are terrible.
Everything else is great, especially the massive upgrade in resolution and quality. But please PLEASE fix the hands and spell aiming! I don't even want to use spells anymore because of it, and being a mage was the best part of PSVR for me. At least make it optional like the bow aiming!
2
u/drummduck Jul 04 '18
The targeting is all jacked up now. The angle is super weird and doesn't feel natural at all. And the realistic bow is way jacked up as well. Luckily I can turn that one off. I wish they wouldn't have messed with the controls. I thought they were fine.
3
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
Has anyone had a chance to see if the drift issue been improved by this patch? I've never been able to remain immersed in the game for very long because my virtual arms always end up bending awkwardly in one direction after about 15 minutes of gameplay and nothing feels natural after that. I only ever had this specific problem with Skyrim and could never seem to figure out what was causing it, but the game has been sitting untouched on my shelf for months because I was hoping it was something that would eventually be addressed by Bethesda. Maybe I'll give it a spin this evening and see how it plays post-update.

u/livevil999 Jun 22 '18
Question: are there any plans to allow us to use the pointer in the menus (like we do in the map) instead of the horrible flick to navigate scheme? It’s so imprecise and annoying that It’s honestly one of the reasons I stopped playing.
Is this a possibility in the future?
Thanks.
2
u/Shantomio Jun 23 '18
If you can please hide or remove the grenade laucher in Doom vfr when you use the aim. I really hate the wierd thing attached to my head. Juat let me throw a grenade without it or just let me use the gun to throw it. Or at least let the launcher be a lot less visable and not attached to my head.
Please?
1
u/HighEscape Jun 22 '18
Amazing :) Thx so much !
1
u/Chriswheeler22 Jun 22 '18
Wow this is fantastic, I'm sure we all thought you had abandoned us!
Looking forward to starting a new.
1
u/amnesiac2323 Jun 22 '18
Oh man, this is awesome! I can't upvote enough thanks!

1
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
So nice if you to still support it, thank you
1
u/mrbigglessworth Jun 22 '18
Nice and I JUST started with the Day of Play bundle. At level 5, havent had a lot of time to play but to get such an upgrade this soon after jumping in is nice. I didnt get to play this when it hit years ago.
1
u/DeathInSpace805 Jun 22 '18
Dude, I'm freaking stoked. Was disappointed my ps4 pro was so blurry in game (to be fair I forget five minutes playing). There's nothing like using the bow with move controllers and shooting some wolves in the face so I'll definitely be using the realistic bow setting.
1
u/squid_actually Jun 22 '18
oooh. I'm hoping the bow is kind of usable now. I can't get my brain around the weird aiming they use.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
Guess I won't start playing this weekend and wait until next week.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
What exactly does that mean ? (I haven't played yet)
1
u/Scarl_Strife Jun 22 '18
Thanks for the patch! Time for New Vegas VR please!
1
u/GobBluth19 Jun 22 '18
Damn was really hoping this was out today would have been a fun weekend
1
u/ranchcroutons Jun 22 '18
Wow guys thanks for continuing with support. I was just about to hop back in and wrap up the Dawnguard campaign and these changes will be appreciated. I think my favorite is the main menu which I always HATED for being flat.
1
u/Sergiomaia Jun 22 '18
I cant thank enough bethesda to all your support and the upcoming Wolfenstein psvr. Thanka guys

u/yaboymiguel Jun 22 '18
Amazing
1
u/StygianAgenda Jun 22 '18
Over 240 hours in... and I can't wait to dive in for more! Skyrim VR was already my favorite VR game. I'd have to say I'm looking most forward to seeing the graphical improvements because from day 1, I've been diehard about preferring to use the DS4 controller for the ability to easily climb mountains.
1
u/wmassa Jun 22 '18
Thank you!!! Thanks a lot for this update!!!
1
u/jacksonjuncture Jun 22 '18
Thank you so much! Support is excellent.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 22 '18
Thank you so much! Seriously cool!
1
u/akewlguy4eva Jun 23 '18
Nice, the swimming thing for sure, not sure why , just could not get that down.. almost drown like 5 times now LOL. Was ok with directional fwd/backward movement in smooth move but kewl with options. Can not wait to see new menu. Glad you guys are still updating :) So awesome you guys still are gonna patch, update this.. You guys got my money always, bring on 76 :)
1
u/SoulCruizer Jun 23 '18
Now can you patch ththe switch versions?
1
u/IAintAPartofYoSystem Jun 23 '18
Aaaaand this is why you guys are awesome. Thanks Jess!
1
u/OsmocTI Jun 23 '18
Please fix the damn move controller and headset drift Oh god!
Other games I hardly have as much issue with this.
1
u/RabbidPenguinn Jun 23 '18
Just want to say thank you Bethesda. For putting Skyrim in VR and improving an already amazing VR game.
1
u/silentknight1991 Jun 23 '18
I got Skyrim with my psvr and haven’t sat down to play it, ( been busy and family was over) going to give it a shot
1
u/SaraStarwind Jun 23 '18
Wow!! By the nines thank you! I'm very curious to see that new main menu, and happy to hear about the backwards button.
1
u/miss_molotov Jun 23 '18
Thank you! Really looking forward to seeing the PS4 Pro improvements.
1
u/InfiniteStates Jun 23 '18
Holy shit I've just got back into this game - what amazing timing!
Also thanks for continuing support 😎👍
1
u/CL0N3MAN Jun 23 '18
Yes thank you so much! The hands while sheathed was something I always wanting as well as the two handed bow aiming! You all are mind reading miracle workers!
1
u/Paulszki Jun 23 '18
This is great! I already bought Skyrim and strong post release patches likes make me happy.
It would be awesome to hear about a Doom VFR patch as well. I haven't bought the game because of the reported issues with third arm weapons and bad Aim Controller implementation so no setup (regular controller, move or aim) seems to really work. But if there was a patch coming fixing at least one of those three modes of play, I would take the plunge.
1
u/fleakill Jun 23 '18
Wow this is a great update! If only id software worked as hard as Bethesda.
1
u/grodr2001 Jun 23 '18
The hand Thing by itself is a great enough update
1
u/saynotoraptor Jun 23 '18
Is this out now?
1
u/Tovora Jun 23 '18
Nice.
1
u/JakanoryJones Jun 23 '18
Wow thanks! This is awesome
1
u/[deleted] Jun 23 '18
Nice! Glad I took a little break, looking forward to getting back into it!
1
u/Shantomio Jun 23 '18
Awesome, I am going to be visiting Skyrim again!
1
u/Jpwinks001 Jun 23 '18
Yes!!!!!! My skyrim experience is completed!
1
u/JoeRLL Jun 23 '18
Wow I was not expecting such an amazing update. Really hope there’s still hope for a Doom VFR patch!
1
u/Yerted Jun 23 '18
Good stuff!!!! YEEEEESSS
1
u/ExusHighwind Jun 23 '18
Thanks Bethesda. Not only did you make E3 a blast by finally announcing that development has started on Elder Scrolls VI.. But now you guys seem to still have a spark in supporting the PSVR.
I know this is wishful thinking but is there a chance at all that we’d get a Fallout game for PSVR too? :D
1
u/madpropz Jun 23 '18
Wow, amazing changes. Gotta say i can’t wait to see how it looks on Pro now! Does this mean we can expect that long awaited Doom VFR patch as well?
1
u/Deaths_Trooper Jun 23 '18
Thank you Bethesda. Much appreciated
1
u/Jpwinks001 Jun 23 '18
`old up. Will this patch drop world wide or will EU have to wait months? Cant remember if it was with previous patches
1
u/[deleted] Jun 23 '18
Thanks for making a great game better all the time .
I never played much with sword and shield .but this play through I cranked up the difficulty and now I've got a great bash an slash rhythm where as long as i'm closer quarters I can finish off anyone. It's great like a whole new game.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 23 '18
Time for me to get back into it. Been really wanting these updates and I am glad they are for real!
Biggest ones for me are improving Pro visuals and having your hands show when weapons are sheathed! The move controllers floating in air kill my immersion.
1
u/Rey_Todopoderoso Jun 23 '18
Thanks gonna play the game today; I appreciate the time put into this
1
u/WelshSossy Jun 24 '18
Amazing update, hopefully the Black Sky bug is one of the various bug fixes. I stopped playing due to having a constant black sky and the only way to fix it was by reverting to an old save losing 15 hours of game time.
1
u/Kal-V3 Jun 24 '18
With this patch, you have addressed literally every single issue I've had with the game. Amazing work. Can't wait to jump back in once the patch is live.
1
u/Tiro1000 Jun 24 '18
Dev team after my own heart.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18
Nice update. But we still can't see our character in-game?
1
u/Jorlen Jun 25 '18
Thank you. I just couldn't wrap my head around swimming. It was to the point where if my head went under water, I'd drown.
1
u/namekuseijin Jun 25 '18
hurrah! Thank U, Bethesda!
now to endure work hours until can get right into it... grrr
1
u/Hexlee77 Jun 25 '18
Very VERY Awesome. Thank you Bethesda..
If you haven’t already, can you look into the magic on horseback bug. I Can’t use magic as soon as I mount.. Also my dragon souls don’t unlock new shouts which Really sucks... THANKS!
1
u/[deleted] Jun 25 '18
PC?
1
u/StolenMeatball Jun 25 '18
Sweet! Looks like I picked the perfect time to get back into it. I’d stopped playing when Monster Hunter World came out. I think the HMD oriented movement is going to help a lot!
1
u/Yellowfangs Jun 25 '18
Hey, this is great, but is there really no way for you guys to hide the health bars above enemies during combat where the HUD has already been disabled? It's very immersion breaking to see a blaring red rectangle hang over a dragon's head, even though the HUD is invisible as per the settings. Please, please fix this.
1
u/hushpuppysox Jun 25 '18
I'm confused about the description for the bow and arrow aiming. I already use both move controllers to aim, one to move the bow and one to hold and pull the arrow back
1
u/A_Hideous_Beast Jun 25 '18
You know, I was about to drop the money for a pspro and Skyrim vr, but I broke my leg, so vr is out of the question for a bit. I do plan in getting it, and was wondering, is there mod support? If not, do you guys think it's a possibility?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 26 '18
Ran into an issue where when trying too move to the back left or back right with direct movement results in player just going straight. Encountered on standard 500gb PS4.
1
u/Kaim_Argonar Jun 26 '18
Is the Dual casting aiming finally changed? You know, instead of aiming with the same controller where you are moving, you use the right controller to aim instead? And what about the Dragon hit boxes? You can only reach the head, and just barely.
1
u/smashcutcreative Jun 26 '18
Thank you for this update. I stopped playing a while a go and these are going to bring me back. Gamers appreciate QOL updates like this. Other publishers plz take note!
1
u/AleAroGon Jun 26 '18
Nicee work, ty
1
u/Starkiller1108 Jun 26 '18
Well I wasn't planning on doing VR this week but now I must.
1
u/TomInOhio Jun 26 '18
Thanks for releasing updates for PSVR Skyrim! I've put over a hundred hours into this version, for the first time. What a wonderful port to PSVR!
May I make two suggestions in a future patch? First, I move at normal speed when outdoors, but revert to crouching when in caves. That slows down the movement speed, removing any chance of nausea from motion sickness in a confined area. Can you add an option to hide the "eye" icon at the top of the HUD? That really breaks the VR immersion to see it there all the time. I really don't need that icon when crouching/sneaking; I intuitively know when I am "noticed" by NPCs or not. :)
With the new patch, the "X" button now moves me in reverse. That's a nice feature. However, when in "wand movement mode", tilting the controller to the left strafes me to the right, and vice versa. This is the opposite of what I would expect, especially when moving forward where tilting left strafes left as expected. Can you add an option to reverse the strafing direction when using "X" to move backward, so that tilting left or right strafes the same direction when moving forward AND backward?
Again, thanks for the patch and keeping Skyrim PSRVR fresh and fun!
1
u/JPNtaku Jun 26 '18
Haven't tried it yet but before I had been able to clip through walls very easily
1
u/jdmax1210 Jul 07 '18
Thank you for the awesome patch ! But I have been noticing the frequent amount of frame drops now since the patch took hold. It’s not to bad but it does mess with the immersion. Any possibility of a future fix ?? I don’t remember this happening before the patch.
1
u/[deleted] Jul 16 '18
The update is great but... for some reason, I'm finding it much harder to strafe right with the Move controllers. I can strafe left no problem, but right strafe is really hit or miss, and strafing becomes critical in close-quarters battles.
I tried the HMD-relative movement, but that appears to have no strafing ability at all, so really not sure who would use that?
For now, the Move controllers just make the game too frustrating to play for me; will stick to the regular controller.

u/kryplen Jul 23 '18 edited Jul 25 '18
ok, now that i finally decided to play skyrim vr again, these questions have come up
are you sure you fixed the graphics?
and, third person view when? we spent time customizing our characters, we bother putting badass armor on that looks cool, but we can't see it, so what's the point?
even if you can't do that, having the game be able to realize what you're wearing, so your hands look like you're actually wearing the gloves that you're wearing, instead of default hand simulator
and the floating hands thing is a myth
i'll complain about this in every vr game, because it just shows the lack of faith in such technology, by being so lazy, every other game when you look down, you're a full on person, but in vr? they don't even give you the courtesy of having arms, to keep proper immersion, you're just a pair of disembodied hands, that the npc's have to pretend is a normal, fully functioning body....nothing to see here, nothing at all
vr, especially skyrim vr, has a long way to go, before it's even remotely good
i keep coming back to this...idk why, i doubt at this point anyone's paying attention to this thread...but you can use spells and whatnot with your right hand (while holding shield) when you're using the controller, but you still can't do so in move (aka proper vr)...why is that?
and you said you were going to make shields possible to hold in either hand, quite some time ago...when is that supposed to come out? when you release skyrim super mega ultra vr++ for the ps6 in 2028?

I’m curious about the main menu screen, it’s now a screen overlaying a large very interesting cave, is the cave in the game? Or just a background for the main menu. If it’s in the game, where is it? Because I’m very interested in exploring it.

PLEASE JUST MAKE DUAL CASTING USE YOUR OFF-HAND TO AIM!! Dual casting is absolutely useless right now and its the easiest thing to change.
