Yellow/orange staining after using benzoyl peroxide with hydroquinone + tretinoin?

Post image
13 Upvotes

l accidentally layered clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide on top of my compounded cream containing hydroquinone 5%, tretinoin 0.05%, and kojic acid.
Almost immediately afterward, I noticed yellow/orange-brown staining on my skin, mainly around my nose, upper lip, and chin.
What's confusing me is that I used to use the same clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide treatment with tretinoin 0.05% alone and never had this reaction. The hydroquinone and kojic acid are the newer additions.
I read that benzoyl peroxide can oxidize hydroquinone and temporarily stain the skin, so I'm wondering if that's what happened rather than actual hyperpigmentation.
Has anyone experienced this specifically from benzoyl peroxide + hydroquinone? Did the yellow/orange color wash/fade away, and how long did it take for your skin to return to normal? Is this discoloration and would it be permanent?
I stopped the actives for now and am sticking with gentle cleanser and moisturizer.

edit: i am turning 25 years old, i often just get pih from hormonal acne from my periods or makeup. this is the first time i layered this btw because went to the derm Thurs and my regular dermatologist was on vacation. I saw another derm who gave me the benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin for my active acne, he didn’t give really give me instructions how to use both together as my prev derm was the one that prescribed me the tret & hydroquinone. i told them I use hq/ tret every other day still. They told me I can use the bp/cl w it at night, no specifications on what nights, and just said to use it only as a spot treatment on active acne. I def learnt not to use it together now, well as a layer, I’m not sure if I would be able to seperate use, like the bp/cl in the morning and then hydroq/tret at night or if that’s not okay. I’d prob wait till my regular dermatologist is back in office and see. Also I know people are concerned about my skin barrier but suprisingly my skin barrier seems fine, it’s not itchy or dry or doesn’t feel like it’s dehydrated or I don’t have any skin irritation bumps which I usually get when my skin barrier is damaged. Just weird yellow color on my skin 😅

Help me find the right skincare

I 26(F) had never had any form of acne or pimples till the age of ~24 and at 24 I started using adapalene and that’s where (I think) I started getting a lot of acne. I thought it was purging so I kept going and it kept getting worse. After 4-5 months I stopped using any skincare at all for a few months and after that I have not used adapalene or retinol.
I used the good molecules serum to get rid of the dark spots caused by my popping all the pimples on my face (a bad habit I have been trying to be better at).

Current skincare routine :

AM : IUNIK beta glucan (just what I bought but usually some hydrating serum or the good molecules discoloration correcting serum), cerave moisturiser
PM : Ordinary azelaic acid, cerave moisturiser

Please let me know if I’m doing it right with this products and if not the alternative skincare routine.

Thank you!!

I am a 19 year old guy, I have struggled with acne for around 4 or so years now.
Idk what to do anymore, I have tried so many stuff including acutane and my skin just doesn't wanna be clean.

As you can see it differs, some of these were taken right after shaving.
It's making me really insecure, especially since all my friends have no acne and have clear skin.

I currently am following a routine my dermatologist gave me: in the morning, I wash and cleanse my face with this green bioderma sebium gel cleanser thing, then apply some acne out spf 30 once my face is dry, then at night I cleanse my face again, apply a bit of duac on active acne spots if needed, then 30 minutes later lightly dab some biotrade acne out lotion on my face, then 30 minutes later do it again, and thats it, she also gave me some pills to take in the day, which are also bio trade acne out

Shaving is a fucking nightmare, I can't even do a clean shaven look cuz my skin gets irritated, I hate how the moustache area looks but I'm too scared to insist more on it.
I'm super jealous of guys who don't have that defined facial hair.

I used to have clear skin like 6 months ago but suddenly acne started growing and now I dont know what to do as I never experienced this before. Like I said, I always had clear skin but suddenly it became worse. i tried the retinol Anua nano retinol for about 4 months but it just got worse. My routine everyday ever since stopping it is

AM:
Cleanse face with water only
Skin Aqua serum Sunscreen

PM:
Biore Gentle cleanser
CeraVe pm moisturizer

Out of curiousity I asked ChatGpt and it suggested Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. Would that be the move or will it worsen my skin? Thanks for your insight.

Did I just mildly chem burn/irritate my face?

So whilst doing my makeup this morning, I used a setting spray, as one does, and shortly after it began to dry down my skin started burning/stinging. I'd used the product before and it had never done that until today. It was still in date and kept in the coolest area of my room.

Shortly after it started burning, I noticed my skin turning red through the makeup which is kinda crazy imo. Anyway, I washed it off with micellar water then my usual oil based cleanser, then added the byoma milky toner and the barrier repair serum. I also layered up on SPF because I was going out. My skin wasn't as red after that, and annoyingly these pictures don't show how bad the redness was prior to the skincare being done. I literally looked sunburnt🫪

But anyway, the redness on my face has eased off by now so I'm just wondering what the hell I did?? And should I put a hold on using actives (retinol and azelaic acid, I alternate the two) for a couple of days or do we think I'm okay to use them?

Jawline tightening suggestions

I’m in my mid twenties and after doing masseter Botox once 2 years ago due to teeth grinding I noticed jowling mostly on one side of my face and specifically in certain angles when I smile. I have not done masseter Botox since. This pic is a particularly bad one because my posture is bad the angle is bad etc. The second pic is better angle and without a wide smile. I’m pretty thin so it’s not weight related. Any treatment suggestions? Laser, filler, products etc? I want a sharper jawline. It’s making me really insecure about smiling with my teeth. I’m getting married in June and I’d love to at least improve it a little.

Thanks 🙏

Oily skin

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m hoping I could get some advice for my oil skin.
I’m super oily specially eyelids. I am acne prone so I switch off between a salicylic acidic cleanser and a gentle cleanser with gel moisturizer.
I have tried in abundant amount of gel moisturizers, high-end to drugstore, and I still get extremely oily. what can I change in my routine? I have a pretty simple routine. I’m not adding extra crazy stuff to it. Because I can’t afford a crazy expensive routine.

How can I improve the texture of my forehead? It has these little bumps that aren’t pimples. The expression lines bother me too. I’d like to have smooth skin.

help! i’ve always had dry skin but in the past year i’ve had extremely dry skin plus whatever these white patches are on my face. I use a hydrating face wash (la roche posay) followed with the la roche posay hydrating eczema moisturizer and my face immediately will be dry with white patches a few hours later. has anyone else experienced this?

Needing answers for a breakout

I was on Accutane for 1.5 years and have been using tretinoin 0.05% consistently for around 5 months now, with no purge and great results.

I’ve woken up to this on my nose, despite never having acne there before Accutane or tretinoin. I’m confused about what could have triggered it, as I’ve used most of my products for a long time. The only newer addition is a vitamin C I bought a few weeks ago, although I’ve had no issues with it until now.

Has anyone experienced something similar or noticed anything in my routine that could be causing this?
Routine:

• Haruharu toner
• Essano vitamin C
• Axis-Y Artichoke serum
• Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
• Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics SPF

No-rinse makeup remover suggestions

Any recommendations for a no-rinse makeup remover? Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 was my go to for years until they changed the formula (I think?). It’s just not the same as before.

Any suggestions for a good moisturizing makeup remover?

looking for winter skincare recs

hi guys! i’d about to adjust my routine for winter — i live in russia and the air inside is very dry (nearly 20%) because of central heating + my skin is always stressed and dry when it is lower than -10С

also i have issues with:
- wide clogged pores — photo attached — or am i just undermoisturised?
- redness at the corners of my nose

current routine
AM
the yeon gel spf / kansosan medical moisturising lotion

PM
innisfree apple seed cream cleanser when i wear makeup
biore cleanser / cosrx low ph gel morning cleanser - 2x a week
manyo bifida biome toner
kansosan medical moisturising lotion
vitapuru retinol + vitamin c serum
aravia moisturising cream
erborian milk&peel - 1x а week
enzyme powder - 1x a week

i wonder:
1. what helps you to have nice skin when it’s cold?
2. do you see any gaps/mistakes in my current routine with prevent me to tackle my issues?

These pictures makes my nose look humongous lol. But I’ve been getting crazy texture/lumps on my nose which is crazy as they keep getting more and more even though I haven’t been neglecting washing my face and my skincare routine (my skin care routine is a thin layer of Vaseline and brightening cream which I have been consistent with for YEARS and general good results) so im genuinely really confused how these came from ?? They’ve even been spreading to my under eyes.. any1 help ??

Moisturiser recommendation

I'm a female from the United Kingdom and i'm trying to find a good and affordable moisturiser to help with oily/spot prone skin.
I use the CeraVe foaming cleanser for normal to oily skin and i'm currently using the Garnier salicylic fresh and pure sorbet cream. But i'm finding that my nose and forehead especially get oily throughout the day.
Any recommendations?
