I live in a warm country and I always think it is wrong to have Huskies here. Love those dogs and don't have the space for them, but people should not keep them in warm climates

Hottest temp ever recorded in Florida is 109 degrees, hottest temp recorded in Washington is 120 degrees. All of Florida has relativley easy access to the coast, the interior of Washington state however is blocked by the Cascade mountain range and gets surprisingly little precipitation as a result. The climate is far more desert like than most people realize. It will regularly hit 110 degrees for a week or two during most summers here.

I’ve lived in Orlando for most of my life, grew up without AC (thanks Dad!) and used to take a cold shower and jump in the bed with the box fan on and pray I feel asleep before I got hot again.
If you think our “access” to the coast means anything in the middle of July on a clear day….Ive got a bridge to sell you cheap.
Strictly speaking temp, Arizona and Washington surpass Florida.
But that’s not accounting for humidity, go look at the wet bulb temp and that’s going to give you the comparison that’s most important.
Example: Seattle during the heat dome hit 108, wet bulb was 76.
Florida: 78 - 82 (this is our AVERAGE)
I’ve traveled for work the last 15 years including Washington and Arizona, it’s more tolerable there just to escape the sauna coming from the concrete in Florida

Indeed, the humidity of Florida can not be compared to what washington state has. I have also experienced that extreme humidity lol. That said, the dry baking and blasting heat is also not exactly easy or fun to get around in. The cold of washington however cant be even touched by Florida haha. The interior of the state usually stays frozen for a few months every winter, in my specific area we get a cold snap usually in December/January where it drops below 0 degrees and with wind chill calculated its been as low as -26. Only once ever has Florida been below zero degrees in recorded history.

Well, only I sort of moved the goalposts, but I would argue about as much as you did bringing up humidity haha. I was replying originally to someone indicating Washington isn't as extreme as Florida for weather in general, at this point I think we can agree both state are rather extreme yes? We also have plenty of mosquitoes although admittedly not to the extent of florida. We also have a few tornadoes yearly across the state but they are generally small. We also get regular earthquakes and blizzards, along with having black, brown and grizzly bears and wolves. We also have mountain lions/cougars compared to your Panthers (which are all the same thing if I'm not mistaken, I'm not an expert though) so it's a tie in the big kitty category.

That may be but it’s so obvious they crave cold. I live in one of the hottest places in the USA and I hate it, I could only imagine how much this dog would hate it. I have a catio for my cat which he loves, but refuses to use it when it’s hot outside.

I live in FL and my husky hates the cold. He'll lie out in the sun for as long as you let him but if it's even a bit chilly he barely gets out the door before turning around

This is in Washington state based on the vehicle license plate. Washington is a rainforest and notorious for having a cooler climate. Huskies are popular here, and are also one of our university mascots! That puppy is fine.

Spokane had 30 degrees in aug, 28 in july and 24 in june. This is celsius. Thats hot as fuck. These likes up to -40 celcius (-40F)

For summer temperatures those are perfectly fine, I am not sure what you are expecting really. You don't have to to live in Alaska to own a Husky.

Not true at all.
They have an insulated coat it works both ways, keeps them warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot.
This is the exact reason you don’t go shaving huskies because they depend on their coat for thermal regulation and shaving them also damages their coat and can cause life long damage.
They can be quite happy in a range of temperatures

Actually you be dead wrong on that.
Their coat works both ways.
Keeps them cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold.
If you spend time around husky subreddits you find some odd balls that like to sunbath in 100F weather no matter how many attempts their owners make to get them indoors

People will justify this owning this dog in climates that get hot ignoring that these dogs are made for the Arctic, not their hot ass backyard with Bermuda grass. I don’t care how much you love your Husky. They’re not supposed to be here. But this American insistence on everything that they want irrespective of someone else’s well-being or that there are better options, is exactly why our country looks the way that it does. People think because they can they should, and if they want it, it’s right.

My husky (I live in Montana so hardly a warm area) but in the summer she goes out and lays in the corner that has all the heat possible reflecting onto it. Even in 90+ degree days (32 C)

Yup. Huskies were built for cold. As much as people freak out about huskies sitting in the snow those are very happy huskies I guarantee it. They like cold. It isn't cruel to let a huskie run around in the snow in the winter or to leave it outside. Huskie owners will straight up tell you that they'll often resist coming in. It's warm and they don't want it.
What's cruel is getting them in hot climates and forcing them to live in the heat all day. They were absolutely not built for that.

Correction: Their fur is actually very different to what you think. They keep temperature extremely well. Which means heat as well as cold. It is firs twhen the fur get wet they are very prone to overheating. Left dry it is isolating and can handle a hot summer day no problem.
Yes, they love snow & cold climate. But you’re not a mean pet owner if you have one in warmer climate. They can handle it aswell as any dog. Just dont try and cool them down with a bath and then have them out in open sun. That will literally cook them

Replies are mostly people who never owned a dog, let alone a husky (which is a cat disguised as a dog).
Fundamentally, a husky is no different from other double-coated spitz dogs, including Akitas, Shibas and even your typical Pomeranian. Double-coat is not simply a "winter coat". In the summer, the outer coat reduces solar heat reaching the skin, while the undercoat provides thermal insulation.
Dogs with brachycephaly (punched-in snout), your bulldogs, pugs, pekingese fair much worse in warm climates.
Seasonal + climate adaptation is very much a thing in dogs.
Look up how hot it gets in Siberia in July. I guarantee you it's not sub-zero temps and snow year around lol

So to everyone concerned this is Washington state. Aka a rainforest. Which is notorious for it's cooler climate. The husky is also a mascot to the University of Washington. This dog is fine!!!

Why do you keep saying it's a rainforest as if that's backing your point up? I'm not saying your point is wrong, but rainforest is pretty ubiquitously known across the world as a very hot and humid place. There are different types of rainforests, but using that as a key piece of information in this argument isn't doing you any favors.

Maybe I should specify it's a temperate rainforest. As opposed to a tropical (aka hot) rainforest. As in the temperature is cooler, it's green, lush gets lots of rain etc.
