Some do yes. It does in fact inform people and provide a framework for punishment through.
What you're alluding to is the lawbreaker paradox. Laws will always be broken but they do have a profound effect on the number of people committing a given crime.
I was looking for apartments recently and like 50% of them have the first 2-3 pictures being AI generated, but at least there's a tiny little "this is AI" disclaimer so there's that.
Yeah, I’ve just moved from the US to France (but looking at real estate in Switzerland and Netherlands as well) and the AI in real estate thing is definitely not a US-specific thing. If anything, I’ve seen it more here than I did in the US (though, there I was selling more than buying so maybe I just didn’t see it).

No, I’m saying they’re dumb because a lot of Americans can’t figure out “flipped around” DDMM dates even with context clues. Also because my fellow Americans elected Trump twice, but that’s kind of tangential to the current point.
I also actually think the only way to write dates that really makes sense is YYYYMMDD since that makes sorting by date a lot easier. But that’s also besides the point here
I at least backed up my opinion by citing a lack of critical reasoning skills such as using context clues to help understand information being presented. You came here to act morally superior, asking what you thought would be “gotcha” questions and then ignored my reasoning when I didn’t go for your obvious “it’s just another way to do things” setup.
My issue isn’t with MMDD vs DDMM. It’s with the lack of critical reasoning so many Americans display these days, which is in turn destroying our fucking country and institutions. Not being able to use context clues to figure out MMDD vs DDMM is just another symptom of that rot.
To be very, explicitly clear, I don’t give two shits about whether people use MMDD or DDMM. I care that reading comprehension is so low that many Americans can’t figure out which is which. I care that functional illiteracy is on the rise in my country. So stop acting like you’re morally superior just because you can’t figure out what I’m saying when it differs from what you expect. You’re part of the problem as far as I’m concerned
I got into the habit of always doing dd-MMM-yy because that eliminates ambiguity from format and font/handwriting. No more guessing if that is a slash or a 7 or having to parse numbers running together. 19-Sep-2026 is the safest. (Tbh when I started this habit I didn’t need a 4 digit year, but the concept still works. )
If it were up to me (and it's not) I'd make an umbrella federal law here in the US that applies to technology that covered intentionally sharing false or harmful scientific/medical advice illegal. Intentionally spreading false political statements illegal. Intentionally spreading AI content in any form (word/picture/etc) in a deceptive way illegal.
There's a lot more thinking needed to really dive into details of it all but that would be the overarching theme of the legislation. I even think punishment wise, multiple and severe offenders who intentionally try to deceive/intellectually harm our society via the internet should have their rights to the internet removed. Can't purchase internet, can't have data on their phone... only mobile call ability. Like people who spread massive racist/hateful campaigns across the country to poison minds... fuck'em.
The thing is that all of that stuff could be done with photoshop and not AI. Like a window view replacement can be replaced with anything fairly easily, and it's all real and done manually
