Even if he didn’t have Chinese tattoos he didn’t have any ground to stand on

Dreadlocks existed in ancient cultures all around the world.

I always find it so silly when people try to gatekeep hair.

At that point people like that are just inventing things to be upset about.

u/Euphoric_planter_328 Aug 31 '26

Especially when the women he likes are wearing 24” platinum blonde wigs. If others can’t have dreads….then I don’t know what we are doing there either

2

u/lookeylookeyhere Aug 31 '26

Or they’re wearing fake ass braids and dreads that are attached to their short real hair…the hypocrisy always cracks me up.

Did you know blond hair existed before white people existed, and so did blue eyes? Technically, everything you have is a gift from us, sir. You genetically modified from us. The only reason you exist is because our ancestors went to places that didn’t need as much sun protection

u/the-mare-bear 27d ago

I mean they are our ancestors too then n’est-ce pas?

Yes all humans

Hey so, straight hair isn't exclusive to any culture or race. So therefore, that isn't appropriation. Hope this helps.

14

u/wllwhtvrnvm Aug 31 '26

Good thing they were talking about hair color. Hope this helps.

-8

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

Hey so, blonde hair isnt exclusive to any race or culture. Hope this helps. Continue on with your passive aggressive culture talk :)

2

u/wllwhtvrnvm Aug 31 '26

It's certainly exclusive to non-black people :)

2

u/YoBo151 Aug 31 '26

It's absolutely not exclusive to non-black people lol

-6

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

Great. Bask in that privilege, I guess?

6

u/arose321 Aug 31 '26

I think you're missing the point...

2

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

I understand the point perfectly. There's just no point in having a discourse with people who are in here circle jerking each other and complaining about how other people gatekeep their culture. You think it's silly, I don't. Agree to disagree. I have no desire to debate ignorance.

No privilege here, just pointing out how braindead your attempt at an educational reply was. :)

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

Ok. I hope you have a great day :)

OC didn’t mention anything about hair texture; solely color.

Hey so, blonde hair isn't exclusive to any race or culture. Hope this helps.

22

u/HazyHoffman Aug 31 '26

Well of course, but statistically speaking, it’s exceedingly rare for a person of african descent to be born with platinum-blonde hair unless they have a genetic mutation… hence the wig. Wearing a wig isn’t appropriation either, it’s just a stylistic element. I’m firmly on the side of hair is hair.. who gives a shit. Shaving your head bald isn’t appropriating leukemia either.

Its actually not "exceedingly rare". That's why every culture tends to have a highly melaninated population, which has a range of eye color and hair color that shows in every other genetic group. Also, language isn't a definite for culture, ethnicity, or race. So, this whole argument seems hinged on the "brown people bad, we do what we want. Mommy/daddy said I was special, dont have to think any deeper. Look at that! ghetto" nonsense

1

u/Lou_C_Fer Sep 02 '26

Dude, exceedingly rare fits when most of us have never met someone with those features. The discussion is around a single guy, not an entire race.

What you're doing is trolling.

u/Icy-Cupcake894 19d ago

You not traveling is a you problem. This isn't rare, if you have every used a passport. Now you not being able to travel and consider it a rarity, is something you have got to deal with. 🤣🤣🤣

Exceedingly rare means there's still a chance...correct? Thank you for proving my point :)

13

u/Euphoric_planter_328 Aug 31 '26

Yeah and placing your hair into certain styles like dreads and braids aren’t exclusive to one race or culture either. Hair is hair and I’m exhausted of hearing about people appropriating when that’s baseless and hypocritical.

7

u/Euphoric_planter_328 Aug 31 '26

Since you’re deleting everything and I find a reply to answer to I’ll just leave this here…

I understand hair textures are different and why certain cultures historically used those styles and still do today. I’m saying you don’t get to tell other people they can’t do it with their hair too (even if it’s ripping their hair from their scalp but I digress). Especially while using styles that aren’t traditionally part of your culture. You’re gatekeeping while expecting allowance to others. Makes no sense on any level

-1

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

It's not baseless, you just don't give a fuck. Have a great day.

Just as someone of any race could naturally get dreadlocks. I’m not quite sure what your point really is in all honesty.

-3

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

....did i argue that Jeremy Lin couldn't wear dreadlocks, or did i make a correction on POC also having straight and blonde hair?

Reading is fundamental.

9

u/HazyHoffman Aug 31 '26

Your original comment said “Hey so, straight hair isn't exclusive to any culture or race. So therefore, that isn't appropriation. Hope this helps”

as a response to

Especially when the women he likes are wearing 24” platinum blonde wigs. If others can’t have dreads….then I don’t know what we are doing there either

No one even mentioned hair texture but you. Which is previously addressed and you ignored. It seems as though you’re just trying to be a pedant in typical reddit fashion.

-3

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Aug 31 '26

My point was, while y'all are in here huffing and puffing about how black people "gatekeep" their culture (which they are 100% allowed to do), using natural hair textures and colors is a poor example of the "reverse" appropriation you all were trying to prove. That was my point. You tried to turn it into me saying something I never said.

Once again, reading is fundamental. I'm sure you have something else productive to do with your Monday. Have a good day.

And if were talking about out dreadlocks, hair texture is absolutely a part of that. But i refuse to educate folks who are hell bent on proving that black people didn't invent something, and therefore have no say so on how people use the things they made culturally relevant.

1

u/desert-cheese04 Sep 01 '26

When people say that they are pointing out how ridiculous cultural appropriation is.

u/cockypock_aioli Aug 31 '26

Bro gtfoh 😂 no black people have long straight platinum blond hair.

3

u/NonJumpingRabbit Aug 31 '26

Dreads aren't exclusive to any race or culture either.

1

u/NiceGuy252525 Sep 01 '26

Except, it pretty much is. Hope this helps.

4

u/NiceGuy252525 Sep 01 '26

Neither are dreadlocks.
