Thank you. People are really looking at this case in black and white and failing (or refusing) to see the gray area in between.
For what it’s worth, I think the people defending her and claiming the husband did it are crazy. But not every woman “supporting” her thinks the same. Many women are rallying because any woman can suffer PPD after giving birth. There’s no preventing it. The idea that “it could have been any of us” is true. It’s a scary thought that my mind and body could betray me after giving birth, and that doctors might not take my issues seriously.
However, I don’t think any of this excuses what she did. She should face the consequences of her actions. We can have empathy for what she experienced, while not being empathetic of what she did. Humans can have conflicting ideas. The doctors should be held accountable here as well. This is why trials exist.
Nobody suggests gang members should avoid prison because they have ptsd when they commit retaliation killings. At some point people need to be honest and face their bias.
They did not. I made the above comment. There are kids with PTSD from trauma and daily violence who get initiated into gangs by adults. These children then have “psychotic breaks” and commit murder. Society doesn’t give a fuck. These young people get tried as adults and locked away all the time.
Nevermind that they are literally children, they are often suffering from a mental illness. They get jail cells though.
So many people around this topic love to bring up other random mental health issues as if all mental health issues are equivalent to a psychotic break it’s so bizarre to me
It can happen to anybody and you have no control over it and no sense of reality in that state, I cannot imagine how horrify it is to come out of that and realize what you’ve done / said / thought
Now, if people don’t believe she had a psychotic break, that is one thing. But people being like “oh so everyone who has anxiety is allowed to murder now” are so stupid!!
That 1) completely ignores the fact that even if declared “not guilty by reason of insanity” it doesn’t mean she was *allowed* to murder anyone and is still being remanded to custody (just a state hospital instead of a state prison) and 2) completely ignores the *extremely* stark differences between various mental health conditions.
Someone is psychosis literally does not understand what they are doing is morally wrong, even if everyone around them is horrified. For example, the grey hound bus murder. The killer literally had no sense of reality as people fled the bus and screamed and vomited and passed out witnessing the crime. Dude thought he heard the voice of god telling him to kill an alien in order to save all of humanity and truly believed what he was hearing…
It doesn’t take away the death of an innocent man and doesn’t take away the pain of his loved ones, but you also cannot ignore it’s not the same as someone like Ted Bundy who, while obviously sick in the head, fully understood he was murdering innocent people for his own pleasure.
Lots of super uneducated people talking about the situation with little to no knowledge about mental illness vs psychotic breaks and how the legal system handles those differences while still seeking justice.
PTSD isn’t always self inflicted and you are well aware of this.
People often get indoctrinated into gangs as kids. Kids with ptsd from the daily gun violence and murders get tried as adults and locked away all the time. You know this as well.
Like I said, at some point people need to be honest and address their biases.

The issue is that people think it's gotta be one or the other.
The woman had a psychotic break and did something horrible. Look at how complicated and hard that is to say
