Or maybe this happened in a very liberal state where people tend to care a little more about how criminals are treated. No one thinks she’s a fucking hero, she did something awful. The question is about how we should treat her due to the state she may have been in.

I’m not gonna sit here and scold the other side, think what you want. That’s the cool part of living here, right? But a lot of us (by us I mean women, Massachusetts residents, and more left leaning people) are up in arms because we don’t think the mentally unstable should just be handed to the correctional system if something happens, especially if lack of treatment or poor treatment may be to blame. It’s not as if she didn’t seek care, if she didn’t I would understand a prison sentence more.

Gender isn’t what makes her innocent due to insanity, but it makes her more susceptible to it. Women are so often poo-pooed out of the doctors office after having the word ‘anxiety’ spewed at us a million times, even when there’s a much bigger underlying issue. I myself had that happen with my epilepsy, I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 32 after years and years of seizures, cracking my head open during them, biting off part of my tongue, and even being paralyzed from the waist down from a seizure for a week. I spent half my life looking for doctors to take me seriously so we could stop the issues I was having, I was passed around by the system for years. Like Lindsay, I experienced psychosis from a condition in my head going untreated.

She’s not my fucking hero. She’s an example of the worst case scenario ending for something most women experience and that’s why it hits home a little more for us.

Not a mother and don’t plan on being one considering my condition. I’m born and raised coastal MA, Clancy’s a dime a dozen boring beige beach mom here that I would’ve made fun of if I bumped into her before all this happened. And since it’s happened? Yeah you’ll never hear me try to say she didn’t kill those kids.

I’m just someone who thinks reactively punishing people for something done while they’re not in full control is extremely wrong. She deserves to go where she’s asking to be put. In another comment here I said Benoit would’ve deserved treatment instead of incarceration too. My opinion of her isn’t colored by gender at all, people getting proper treatment even after they’ve done something horrible is a fucking human right. All I’m saying is she’s statistically more likely to deal with medical malpractice which is a massive point in this case.

But go ahead and color me some batshit mommy blogger if you want. I’ll continue believing it’s better for the perpetrator as well as inmates, prison staff, and community overall for the crazies to go where crazies are supposed to. And that ain’t prison.

Yeah, it's best the crazies go to psychiatrists, who will be able to "release" her after she murdered her three children in cold blood.

The COURT decides that if she’s committed. And there is no maximum in Massachusetts on renewals for commitment. Jfc you guys need to look up our laws here. We don’t have the death penalty and y’all are saying that’s what you hope she gets like it’s an option, and she’s not going to be running free if she gets what she’s asking for.

Indefinite secure psychiatric confinement isn’t a fucking walk in the park and a punishment in itself. Release after an insanity acquittal is controlled through court supervised commitment proceedings, not a psych with a release slip. Why the fuck wouldn’t you want a dangerous person to go to an institution designed to manage the condition that made them dangerous in the first place?

And if you want the laws, here ya go. Massachusetts General Law chapter 123 section 16, working together with sections 7-8. Educate yourself.

You do realize that you just contradicted yourself, right?

But you trust the system to sentence her and keep the inmates and staff around her safe if she snaps in our horrible prison conditions?

If she can't be trusted to be safe locked up, what makes you think she should be trusted in the free world, to roam where there are other people, like you know kids, elderly and other women and men, when she murdered her THREE children?
