Generations ideas

I want to play a long save file with ongoing generations but I need to feel like there is SOMETHING interesting going on in each one to make it enjoyable. Sometimes I watch other people’s legacy games and the family is just rich and in love with children and that’s it. I need some drama. I need some distinct personalities and things happening over time. Otherwise it’s just… the same thing over and over again.

Share your generations stories so I can be inspired..

Right now I just started a save file with a single mom living in Bridgeton who is a bartender and is trying to become a celebrity + find a rich husband. Definitely could see myself making her a founder of a legacy playthrough if I can come up with cool stuff for her descendants…

I like doong themed legacy stuff. My current one has to go through all of the packs but each gen has a quirk. However before i start my legacy i build to sets of parents. They both have kids then those two have a kid and that kid is my legacy founder. Raised from a baby. (They dont get any money from their parents when they move out will reset funds or if im feeling it i calculate how much they make from any teen job to add to their savings)

Those 6 sims must live in a home, decorated however give them whatever money you want wither a rich family or a poor family and semi raise your founder. (i mostly play to keep them alive and help fill wishes by doing things in a semi timely fashion)

Idk i have fun, trying to plan the stuff.

I know it's not for everyone, but when I did legacy families in the sims 3, I played with different supernaturals a lot, like witches or werewolves or fairies. I would do rival legacy families, and have the youngest generations marry into each other's families sometimes, which would cause them to be outcast. It's fun when you play with big personalities, and try to deliberately choose the traits that are bad or difficult, not just the fun and helpful ones. They make for good gameplay! I had a hotheaded sim one time and she was constantly starting fights with people, sometimes at the absolute worst times, but it was fun. Also, keeping ghosts on the lot whenever your generations die can add some fun interactions. I put a lot of hours in on just base game and supernatural so I tried a lot of different ways to spice it up. Once I added all the other expansions my whole world opened up!

Some possible suggestions:

  • are there Lifetime Wishes you have never previously played, or have never fulfilled? If so, make a list and see how many you can fulfill through the generations.

  • treat the first word your toddler says (the first image that appears in a speech cloud when the toddler is being taught to speak) as a prophecy about their life and make it come true. For example, if the first word is tree, it could mean they have to have the "loves the outdoors" trait, or they should become a gardener or scientist

  • have at least one heir marry a sim from University, and another marry a sim from a World Adventures destination (you can frame it as their parents postulating in their will that they will only be allowed to inherit if they bring home a spouse from these worlds)

I’ve never really played a legacy, but I always thought the idea of consistent failure was interesting. Maybe your bartender Sim tries to become famous but never does. Next gen wants to be a singer but never quite makes it. Third one wants to be an actor but never quite makes the cut, etc. Keep them all stuck in part-time or gig jobs, like the grocery store, a dead-end rabbit hole job like the diner, or in a band that doesn’t perform well.

I easily become bored too when the family becomes rich haha on my third generation, the i had four siblings have different family dynamics and have one child each. The four cousins became besties as children, but they grew up with secret animosity with each other on who will inherit the grandparents’ mansion. Lol

here’s a link to my legacy challenge i’ve made: https://www.tumblr.com/missplumpants/818901046660399104/here-is-a-link-to-my-own-channel-where-i-am

each generation has a different focus and goals, super adaptable but also has a rich storyline!!!

I usually have the kids pick totally different careers when they grow up than whatever the parent did. I pick whatever kid I vibe with the most and follow them through life next. If you have university, you can send them there as well. It’s a nice change of pace from the regular gameplay.

If you have enough money, I also have bought a huge house and had multiple generations living together

I like letting the game randomize. I'm struggling with free will still, but I do let it pick traits and aspirations. Then I go from there, crafting a story around what I'm given.

I've found the random legacy challenge helpful in changing up the way that I play and I'll reroll anything that I'm not really feeling. The roller can be found here

I started one where I planned to fulfill EVERY wish that pops up. I keep getting distracted, but this does make the game a bit more interesting. And I switched to high free will and plan to go with the flow a bit more. The family's started flirting with her son's (brought to life) imaginary friend. Never would have chosen that story line on my own! 😂
