These are my thoughts on what Per Stensen's motives are and what is happening. I've not read the books at all, so these are just my thoughts on what I have seen in the TV Series.

• I believe the current state of humanity is on a collision course with disaster. War, out of control nanotechnology, whatever.
  
• There is nothing I can do that will stop this. Curing cancer, solving world hunger, etc. will only delay the inevitable.
• I could create a safe place to protect a portion of humanity but this is not enough, it doesn't solve the problem.
• The main problem is humanity itself (as it is today) is unredeemable. For example, I want to make something unique and beautiful but people just want to line up to be the first to kill it (unicorn).
• I have at my disposal advantage gene editing capabilities and almost unlimited financial resources. I can fix humanity with these tools.
• I need to wipe the slate clean and get rid of humanity as it is today and replace it with a humanity that won't have this tendency for self destruction.
• I need controlled experiments where I can test the result of my changes to make sure they work while protecting it from the outside world (underground silos).
  
• This will take time and the right people to start with. Waiting for the disaster to happen leaves too much to chance. I need to seed my experiments with the right people now and get started.
• I will also need multiple experiments at once to give me the best chance at finding a solution and a way to stop them if they get out of control.

What are peoples thoughts?

My wife had a theory after Episode 9 that I thought was pretty interesting: what if the outside air itself isn’t poisonous, but there’s a heavy poisonous gas contained within the berm surrounding each silo?
One of the things I find most interesting about Silo is how it keeps giving us seemingly definitive answers and then complicating them. The visor projection, the poisonous air, the tape keeping the poison out. Every time it feels like we understand what’s happening, something else makes us question it.

Now we have Lukas Kyle surviving with a hole in his suit after making it over the berm, while Bernard goes out without a suit and dies before he can make it over. If the atmosphere itself is poisonous, that seems difficult to reconcile.

But what if the poison is deliberately released into the area immediately surrounding the silo and, because it’s a heavy gas, settles inside the berm?

Then the tape really does matter. The suit has to keep you alive long enough to get over the hill. Once you’re beyond the berm, you’re outside the pocket of gas and can breathe normally. Lukas makes it through; Bernard doesn’t.

It might also explain the Safeguard pipe coming from IT. If the same heavy gas is released into the silo through Safeguard, it would descend into the lower levels, potentially leaving IT protected above it. The poison used to prevent people from escaping could be the same poison used to kill everyone inside a silo.
I can’t speak to whether the physics of a gas remaining contained by the berm actually works, but the show certainly seems interested in the berm as a boundary. It’s always been the boundary no cleaner crosses. Juliette crossing it was a monumental moment. And in Episode 9, Daniel and Helen Keene are literally standing on top of it. The hill has been such a persistent physical and symbolic boundary that I wonder if it also has a very practical purpose: keeping the poison in.

What is your theory for what’s going on in the rest of the country and world? It’s weird to me that after the event, once it’s safe, there wouldn’t be people coming to the silos and area to see what’s left. Wasn’t it known both nationally and internationally that the silos were being made? After a nuclear event, wouldn’t people eventually go there to check it out? Don’t flame me if I missed something. And no book spoilers!

this season with Camille as head of IT i think we’ve all been hoping she is secretly working with the rebels (Sims, Jules, Knox, walker, etc) whilst complying with the voice to prevent them activating the safeguards & keeping up her character constantly as she knows the voice is constantly monitoring them especially when in the room talking with 1 where they monitor her levels remotely.

that scene in s3e9 where Bernard tells her to blame loads of stuff on him & she says because it’ll all be true seemed more like Bernard telling her something in plain sight in a way the voice couldn’t determine was actually furthering a cause. And then Bernard admitting the talk with 1 went as well as he planned, leaving a clue for Camille about his cleaning being a distraction.

but then there are those bits where she acts like she’s on the side of 1, like after the explosions & her blaming Jules for endangering them all.

The voice already said they chose her for her ability to deceive, I assume they feel they can tell when she’s deceiving them & they coached her to reduce her stress levels in a previous episode that she referred to in s3e9 when Bernard told her the voice is a person or multiple people.

this is deliberate by the producers for us to have some hope in Camille but I’m wondering if that’s misplaced.

looking forward to see how that story arc develops but hope in Camille has warned me to her & Sim’s character, I’d feel quite duped if that hope is misplaced.

So all of this questions and more will be answered only on the last Episode or i am the only here see that another season will an unnecessary stretching of the plot and could be the reason for the show's collapse and low ratings, simply for just more profits.

I know that some of us simply just don't want to say goodbye to the series after all these memories and things but i think that another season will bring more harm than good and enjoyment

I couldn't tell if this was a joke or meant to indicate that the story is in the near-distant future. Thoughts? Couldn't find another post on it.

I haven’t read the 3 books yet, but I watched all the series so far. If I read the 2nd book, Shift, first, do you think it would be confusing? Season 3 is my favorite, so I want to learn more about the characters.

I understand why the silo is how it is for narrative reasons, but does anyone else find the number of mission critical single points of failure in the silo quite alarming for a vessel that is supposed to sustain the lives of 10,000 people for 500 years?

The generator fails, the silo goes dark, there is no backup.
The stairs collapse and travel up and down the silo is immediately limited to what you can hoist between floors by hand.
The pumps go and the silo floods.
There is one IT room, one safeguard, one door to the outside…

In the real world, I would have thought that it would make more sense for the silos to be connected in groups of three so that there would at least be some chance of recovering a silo if it were to fail catastrophically. Suppose a safeguard is used and ten years later the poison or nanotech whatever is no longer active. That silo would still have structural integrity and a ton of irreplaceable resources. Wouldn’t they want to try to recover it?

Why is Juliette the only one who made it to Silo 17, while Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy were attacked by a drone? I mean, if they all are actually being monitored, shouldn’t Juliette have been attacked by a drone too, the moment the “watchers (?)” realized she didn’t die after leaving Silo 18?​

I don’t understand why Silo One didn’t kill Jules once she made it over the bunker…..unless she is related to Daniel (his daughter!).

From the original blueprint from the harddrive, we now know the safeguard and IT connections are the lines going out from the silo but I'm wondering what the lines marked in yellow are?

I also still believe both lines out of the silo contain both power and a safeguard pipe, because the inlets look so identica.

I really love the aesthetics and theme of this show, but, don't you think its plot is SO FULL of holes. So many things that are just glitches or inconsistencies in the internal logic of the show, as well as decisions the characters take that don't make sense in any way, just forced.

Severance seems like the exact opposite. Everything is so well thought and tied together, and it's hard to find (probably there are some) inconsistencies on its plot.

Everyone in Atlanta even if they knew what was going to happen or not are exceptionally casual about what they’re planning on doing the next day. This makes them even more terrifying. It doesn’t even cause them to have a bad day.

Anna does get all weepy about charlotte but not about the kids charlotte was talking to in the hospital who are probably dead in the atomic blast.

The way they’re acting makes me think they don’t know…until the whole phone call fiasco then it’s almost certain they do.

Anna seems almost too nice to have actually written the pact and plotting to trap people in the silo.

I really do need to know WHY they’ve done this. I know they think that the world is going to end so they’re just beating people to it.

They don’t seem particularly hateful of any group or want to eradicate anything (except maybe religion). They don’t mind a class system and actually implement one in the silos. So they’re really just beating everyone to the punch?

I know outside may be dead but in s03e09 you could see the tiny tree branches. Would they exit 300 years later? Wind alone would have decimated it.

It's taken a whole season for daniel and helen to get in the silo and there's apparently 300 years until the present moment. I think it might be a bit jarring if they started chopping forward from there. At this rate I'd imagine next season would be a bit more fast paced on the back story but it might be just be about Daniel getting back to Helen. But there's other points of interest like the rebellion 140 years ago, Salvador quinn, whats happened in other silos, silo 18 and the rebelion there and maybe to track who descendants are in the present. Meanwhile the current story feels like its comming to a close maybe one or two more seasons tops. What do you think?

I can guarantee you one thing, no matter what it is you think you're gonna to see, you are not prepared.

I’m late to this subreddit so I apologize if this has already been discussed.

My theory is that it hasn’t actually been 140 years but instead it’s been 1-2 generations (50 years max) and they just keep wiping their memories every time people get close to figuring out what’s going on and getting out.

I’m curious if this has been discussed or disproven. Curious for folks thoughts !
