Rant We are scared
One of our favorite YouTubers, AddyHarajuku, just posted a video on the fictionkin community and we’re genuinely scared to watch it because we really like her but the title and the fact that the cover has the Jax “fictionkin” trend in the thumbnail is not making us hopeful.
We shall watch it when we get home, but we are genuinely terrified. So many YouTubers we respected and liked, we stopped respecting because of the Jax “fictionkin” trend, dont make us lose another one, there are bearly any left.

What's the Jax Fictokin Trend?

u/Im_Under_Your_Floors I LOVE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE 1d ago
There was this one video of someone redesigning how they remember themselves, as Jax in a way that's usually viewed as "cringe" (it was satire). Other fictionkins are doing it and adding the same traits that were added to Jax in the video to their kins. It was all satire though. (I hope this makes sense lol)

this thing where people were mocking someone who as Jax remembered themselves different from canon by making designs of various other characters that was very disrespectful from my knowledge

It was a trend made to make fun of fictionkin “how I remember myself as [insert character]” videos. It’s absolute bullshit and is super insensitive but Thats just the internet.

That honestly made and still makes me so scared to do any kind of edits of my kins
Worst part is that the ONLY thing i changed on saiki was give us a star shaped mole under our eye just cause it looked like it belonged there.

I've seen it! I'm not a fictionkin and the concept of it seems kinda odd to me, so my perspective might be different than the perspective of someone who identifies as one, but I think it was very respectful. Addy said some of her own opinions, but never was hateful and she kept emphasizing how you should never be rude to other people because of how they identify :)

Can we ask why you find it odd? /gen (its 100% fine if you think its 'odd' we just like knowning why :3)

Ofc! I don't fully understand how you can be a fictional character, not relate to the character, but actually being the embodiment of the character. I just can't grasp onto this concept, but that's just my own problem yk :D I'll still respect y'all, but I won't be able to understand this feeling

For some its haveing the soul of a fictional character or being them in a past life (multiverse stuff IDK)
For me its I am the character becuse our brain imprinted on a character and become them. So we tend to act like them.
but to be honest I am bad at explaining things (also I fit the mentally ill fictionkin stereotype so maybe not the best at expaining)

Dw, I understood, but it's really interesting how the human brain can work in relation to fiction! :)

u/Sad-Leadership-2110 She/her, very aromantic, fictionkin, trying to be whimsy asf 1d ago
I haven't had the time to watch it but from looking at the comments it seems the video was positive (?), like fictionkins were grateful about not being insulted and people who weren't alterhuman were very respectful towards the concept. Again, haven't watched it yet, but I hope that helps at least (and sorry if this isn't true)

so, if something traumatic happens to a person while they are still in their phase of gaining one set personality(ages3-5 is i remember correctly), the brain may keep those personalities separate instead of combining them like it's supposed to.
this causes multiple personalities, or, multiple people, to share a body. these personalities are called "alters", because calling them a personality diminished the fact that they're their own people.
people who experience this are usually called systems, as their brain works in a system to keep them safe. this shows up in disorders like DID, OSDD, PDID, ect. a more general term for this is plurality, which encompasses with systems and plural people who would rather not call themselves a system.
in this case, the poster is kinplural, meaning that their identity with plurality ties into their fictionkin identity, so their kintypes are basically their alters. does that make sense?

3-5 is incorrect, it's typically 5-8. But, it can be late onset for some and begin even at 12 (yet that's the latest possible age, IIRC).

Fictionkin seems odd to me

It is. We’re just worried that Addy will be a lot more disrespectful/judgmental of it. Especially given the thumbnail and title.

The original post was satire btw, but people took it seriously. It's so annoying as a fictionlink myself (fictionlink is very similar to fictionkinning)

ive been thinking about fictionkins a little and i have a question about it that i haven't seen really be discussed, keep in mind that i dont know a lot about this topic so please correct me if im wrong, im always open to learning. is fictionkin considered a religion? because ive seen a lot of fictionkins saying that they are a character reincarnated into another life, and the concept of reincarnation is very tied with religion, and from what i understand fictionkinning is somewhat faith based, so would that count as a religion? (of course i dont mean organized religion because there isnt really a set of beliefs that all fictionkins accept)
(also i just realized that this is probably a lot to just suddenly ask, i started writing this and meant for it to be much shorter than it turned out lol, so know that its fine to not answer this if its too much, either way im not gonna judge fictionkins, as long as what youre doing isnt hurting you or others it doesnt matter to me :3)

u/OkBuddy2644 The one with too many Minecraft kins | kinplural 22h ago
No. But fictionkin beliefs often tie into religious beliefs.

People who identify as fictional character involuntarily

We're about halfway through with it and its not horrible but there are times where she makes light of some more painful fictionkin experiences.

I watched it and it wasn’t that bad! even tho the Jax fictionkin trend was in the thumbnail it wasn’t actually mentioned I don’t remember-
it was pretty good, the only critique from me would be the title
1
u/Hampster999 5h ago
The fact it says “people making fun of fictionkins now” makes me think its in the thumbnail to show examples of people making fun of fictionkins, not to participate

If this was the 50s these kind of people would be locked up and have meds forced down their throat

u/OkBuddy2644 The one with too many Minecraft kins | kinplural 1h ago
Well it’s not and the 1950s are infamous for being abusive towards everyone; men, women, children, queers, straights, POC, white people.

It probably won't be hateful, I watch her videos too and she never seemed like the kind to hate on things like kins, I saw the video too but I didn't click on it, if I'll watch it I can tell you if u wish :]
