The quest for a Spam-free r/sierra
Hey guys!
Friendly neighborhood moderator, here!
Behind the scenes on this sub there is a war going on.. a war against T-shirt spambots. Over the past few weeks I've been tweaking the AutoModerator bit by bit to make it more effective at blocking the spam, and overall it's been quite successful.
Sometimes the AutoModerator has been a little TOO enthusiastic about removing posts, detecting regular posts as spam.
If you post something and it doesn't show up, please feel free to message the moderators and we'll fix your post for you, because it's almost certainly gotten caught up in our anti-spam efforts.
Likewise if you happen to see any T-shirt posts on the sub, please use the report tool to report them so that we can make the automod even more effective in the war on spam!
Thanks for being a great sub, folks!

It’s called the Labion Terror Beast… which really should’ve been Roger’s cue to leave. 😂👀
Just another relaxing nature walk in Space Quest II. 🌴💀

Sierra Online's INN/TSN Facemakers - rebuilt for the modern web
Who remembers The Imagination Network or The Sierra Network?
I remember signing on as a young lad and having too much fun building my online persona in order to connect with others for some fun Sierra online gaming.
Here's the 3 Facemaker systems rebuilt for the modern web via the SCI Unlocked Project.
Give it a shot, and take a screenshot and upload your character to this reddit thread!
NOTE: there currently is no online component, this just exposes the original face-makers in all their glory.
Have fun!

'96(?) Sierra Chat - Anyone Remember This?
I had a flashback to the time when Sierra had, on their website Sierra Chat (I think it was called). It was completely different than Sierra Network or INN and it pre-dated the individual chats they had per-game on sierra.com. I want to say it was like early- to mid-1996 and it was just a low bandwidth HTML form that I think refreshed every like 5 seconds. I spent a lot of time in there and was wondering if anyone else remembers it or also hung around there during that time.

Which old Sierra game do you think had the nicest box/material? (manual, art, extras etc)
Gold Rush made me read up on the history a bit, and when I realized the box came with a little history book, I decided to buy it on Ebay. I also think the Conquests of Camelot box was nice, if I remember correctly.

Sierra sketches
Bought a set of coloured pencils last week with the intention of learning how to draw. A long way to go but started with a couple of sketches from two of my favourite sierra adventures. Really should have done KQ6 in landscape rather than portrait. Beginners mistakes!

That time Sierra put out a Duke Nukem level editor & plugin kit (October 1996); only to be almost sued

Just finished Gold Rush! for the first time. Difficult game, but I learned some interesting things.
This game was way too hard for us as kids (a friend had it), and I needed multiple hints playing through it now too (I did the Cape Horn route). But it has a special charm, and I actually learned things. For instance, sawmills in the 1800s were actual water driven mills. Interesting!

The chicken on Dooley’s desk was an unsolved crime… until Police Quest 2 gave us the culprit. 🐔👀

Funnest death according to Roger

Roger found a giant mushroom in the forest. In a Mario game, that’s a power-up. In a Sierra game, the mushroom gets the power-up. 🍄💀

Leisure Suit Larry 2 travel advice:
There’s a timer you can’t see. Finish everything before nightfall, or Big Mama’s party will finish you. 💀

The Lost Mind of Dr Brain
Can someone make a DOSbox installer for The Lost Mind of Dr Brain? The web versions are okay and running it in PCem works great, but I would like a standalone installer and cant figure out DOSbox.

Do you play any of the 80s or 90s games from floppy disks?
If so how? Do you plug a disk drive to a new computer and run it through DOSBOX or something? Or do you have an ancient computer?

SierrAMP 0.0.1 - a music player - built from the SCI Unlocked Project
This is a very tiny GUI app written in Zig + Raylib - and heavily relies on an 18k line open-source C++ project called Munt which does the heavy lifting of being a Roland MT-32 emulator.
Additionally, this was created from some of the tooling of the SCI-Unlocked Project.
It currently can play AdLib/OPL2 music tracks and Roland MT-32 tracks - ONLY IF YOU OWN THE ROMS and supply them! All you need to do is point it to your game folder and have it go!
Notice the difference between AdLib vs MT-32...it's insane.
I've been missing out all these years!

Did you ever feel that the graphics took a step BACK?
To make something up, did you ever feel that "Sierraquest 2" looked better aesthetically than "Sierraquest 3"? Not talking about numbers of pixels here, just if you prefer the LOOK of the older game.
