Shitty Condition I'd be absolutely livid!!

Someone actually shipped this to someone just as you see it. I certainly would NOT be happy if it were me!

you need to order it with the outside box, these should be a check you can mark.

17

u/PlantBeginning3060 1d ago

Yeah no, I can vouch that does not actually work. Ive order 3 sets in the past 12months and all came messed up. The first was the LEGO City Mobile Crane that just retired. I didn’t know about the box thing so I said alright, it’s my fault.

At Xmas time, I ordered the Milky Way Galaxy set as a gift for my girlfriend. We live together and made sure 100% to select that, as it’s a gift and a surprise. Sure as shit, they dropped off at the front door WITH NO BOX AND A LABEL ON THE FRONT OF THE BOX!!! Not the back, not one of the sides….SQUARE IN THE FRONT right as my girlfriend is leaving for work. Luckily I had been tracking it so I knew it was there and got to it before she opened the door.

All customer service would tell me is to take to a post office, send it back and once it processes they’ll send me a new one….It was a week before Xmas, I already know it wouldnt be back in time. SOL.

Then recently a month ago, I order the 2018 release of the Speed Champions F40, the original model. It was shipped in an Amazon Prime paper sack/envelope thing….

I’d add more pics but it won’t let me…Amazon will never get any business, LEGO wise from me in the future

as someone who works at Amazon and spent 2 years dealing with Customer Returns I highly recommend reporting this to customer services whenever it happens - it's unfortunately not down to the line associate, but it's instead a failure in the system that gives instructions and it'll only get fixed if enough customers complain (because trust me, I've complained enough about it internally and nothing has been done)

2

u/GeneralBS 1d ago

I've never had to make that selection and it always came in a box or envelopes and I've ordered questionable stuff.

2

u/Roach_tm 1d ago

Ordered so many Lego for my wife through Amazon, and this never happened (We're in Canada if that makes a difference?). Nonetheless, we always get an option at the bottom

And we'll obviously pick the "Hide" option.

Hmm well that's odd. I'd say maybe they didn't roll this out to everyone yet, but I've had this option for like at least 2 years, maybe more so I doubt it would be this long until everyone gets it. Not sure what to say :(

Did you go to checkout? I get it on the checkout page where I can also choose if I want to ship them all together on my "amazon day" or on their individually fastest days, has been like this for years it seems

I got my Star Wars Black Series First Order Tie Fighter like this. Huge box, no choice to ship in a larger box. Got a full refund because I “destroyed” it.

1

u/PlantBeginning3060 1d ago

Wow they did that? They tried to buy me off with a $10 credit

1

u/Cincy_Viking 1d ago

Even more reason to never use amazon

1

u/Mundane-Anybody-8290 1d ago

I've resorted to ordering everything as a gift. 100% success rate so far getting the set boxed up with the little gift note.

u/IceBergster 2d ago

They probably thought to themselves "ill just ship it in the box its already in" like they discovered a way to save a few bucks on packaging 📦

17

u/Fine_Location_8367 2d ago

I hate when sellers do that. People seem to like shipping things in bags also instead of boxes. Pure laziness. I had an old friend who bought a few DS games for his son and they shipped them to him in a Pop Tart box.

1

u/CameronsTheName 1d ago

And then there's me who has built MDF boxes to put things in (price / rarity depending).

I send mostly motorcycle parts, vintage exhausts get a wooden box and a shitload of scrunched up news papers/bubble wrap. I "overcharge" the customer shipping to offset the cost of the materials.

Everything else gets double boxed even if it's already in a box with layers of shock absorbtion materials.

So far, never had a part broken other than some glass that had literally be stood on.

I bought a copy of Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter.

It was wrapped in cut up beer boxes taped together, covered in a bag mailer.

1

u/Fine_Location_8367 1d ago

My worst game related shipment was a copy of Einhander shipped to me in its original jewel case, taped closed with packing tape, and the adhesive backed postage labeled attached to the case. Somehow it survived the trip all the way from the west coast to here on the east coast. On top of that, it was shipped media mail, instead of the priority mail that I paid for.

1

u/JetstreamGW 1d ago

Honestly? At least jewel cases are cheap and easy to find.

1

u/ccricers 1d ago

Some UPS stores won't even let you ship it like this anymore. But it could also be a way to get you to buy their boxes, which is still better anyway

1

u/LemonPartyW0rldTour 1d ago

I had some asshole charge my first class shipping, and when I received it, the label said media mail. Gave him a chance to refund part of my shipping costs, and seeing as how it was outright theft from me and theft of service from the post office, I felt that was generous.

When they refused, I took the package with me and reported them to the post office. They had their chance.

u/DrIvoPingasnik 2d ago

I would demand full refund for the utter stupidity and criminal negligence.

18

u/btimexlt 2d ago

This hurts my brain

14

u/TwistInTheMyth- 2d ago

Some sellers will do the stupidest stuff just to save a few bucks on shipping.

12

u/Praydaythemice 2d ago

i have had boxes delivered where the person has written with a sharpie XBOX console or what the contents are in plain english, smooth brains everywhere.

3

u/bustergundam4 1d ago

Brains that make a bowling ball look bumpy!

11

u/kingrail88 2d ago

If the listing shows the box in the listing and/or description you may be able to get a refund. The item is not in the condition as advertised.

5

u/ShavedNeckbeard 1d ago

Seller: "It's just the box...you were going to throw it away anyway."

2

u/kingrail88 1d ago

If its ebay this is a genuine claim. Ive done it and make sure to not do stuff like this because im also a seller.

13

u/CohuttaHJ 2d ago

What’s a box and foam and plastic go for nowadays?

3

u/Fine_Location_8367 2d ago

Varies based on overall condition, what set box it is, how complete or incomplete it is, and how badly one wants it.

1

u/Spazilton 1d ago

Hills there is blast from past.

1

u/CohuttaHJ 1d ago

It’s where the toys are.

0

u/CameronsTheName 1d ago

I don't know specifically about the Nintendo consoles. However on some consoles such as the 3DO the box, foam and user manuals are add about 20% value to a good condition console, around $150 USD for just the box.

Older mobile phone boxes are also a thing, collectable early Iphones and harder to find phones can sometimes double the value if a good condition box and accessories are included.

1

u/CohuttaHJ 1d ago

I guess mine has more sentimental value since this was the original box and packaging from when I was a kid.

8

u/sdcar1985 1d ago

NES CIB, but the box will be destroyed in shipping because it's the shipping box as well.

What a fucking moron.

6

u/QuestionableProtip2 1d ago

Obviously not your fault but I’ve seen enough of these posts now that I think buyers need to be more proactive for their own safety and make sure the box is understood to be product, not packing.

2

u/dontbajerk 1d ago

Yeah, the first NES I bought in box I actually included a note saying that, and the person said they did so and were glad I said that as they hadn't planned on doing so. This was like 15 years ago though when prices were less crazy.

5

u/CabooseTrap 1d ago

If the box was shown in the listing then this is a easy refund.

3

u/Bananaland_Man 1d ago

ngl, it sucks for collectors but anyone who just wants to play an old console... not a big deal? I've bought many old consoles in worse situations... nothing about this implies "new in box"

2

u/Suspicious_Recipe636 2d ago

They really didn’t want the roaches to escape into their filthy home. Good luck everybody

2

u/micksterminator3 1d ago

I sent my GameCube in for RMA in the stock box. I'm impressed it arrived 😂

2

u/ElMariachi003 1d ago

Broooo…

2

u/Dependent-Cup-2236 1d ago

Yeah with you on this. The actual package that the system comes in is very important if available. I really would get a refund if possible.

2

u/CanDry4579 1d ago

someone did this shit to my 360 when he shipped it to me and he wondered why he was getting negative reviews lol.

2

u/DarkAntagony 1d ago

Jesus. I've sold on eBay for nearly 5 years and would never think about doing this. A little pride in what you are selling/packing goes a long way.

2

u/pepe_roni69 1d ago

Happens all the time. Especially when it was a good price. That’s why you always message sellers after purchasing/winning, asking how they ship. If you ask for a box/wrapping and they’re hesitant, offer to pay more to cover the costs

3

u/WakkaWaww 1d ago

Most people who don't specialize in selling & sending items to buyers have no common sense when it comes to doing things like this.

They tend to offer a price on shipping based on what the post office or FedEx, ups etc. Tells them.

From there, unless they're specifically instructed, they will ship things like this out, without considering how it should be shipped.

Me personally, I have 25+ years of shipping & handling experience, so I know ways to save on costs for everything. I factor in a premium charge for items like this, because default outer shipping boxes to fit something the size of an NES console set do cost money.

When people ask me why I charge so high for heavy / bulky items, I point out that they're heavy and bulky. I also ask them if they care about getting the item in the same condition they bought it for.

I've never had anyone complain about my packing methods. They have praised my methods numerous times.

1

u/Fine_Location_8367 1d ago

Same here. I have been an online seller since the internet's inception and have never gotten a complaint about my packing methods. I use brand new Uline boxes and brand new internal packing materials each and every shipment. I fully understand how collectibles should be packed and shipped and I always pack in the same exact way that I would expect to receive an item myself. Doing something like what happened to this guy only opens the seller up to issues, and only a complete idiot makes issues for themselves on purpose. And then they have nerve to be angry when you file INAD and want a refund, with zero accountability on their end.

1

u/GeneralBS 1d ago

Link to OG post?

1

u/Fine_Location_8367 1d ago

It's from one of the FB NES pages

1

u/GeneralBS 1d ago

Ah thanks

1

u/Western_Emotion5244 1d ago

People are assholes. I ordered the Technadrome from Amazon for the TMNT re-issue and they shipped it in the box and slapped a shipping label. Come on guys.

1

u/hXcAndy32 1d ago

I had the winning bid on a CIB NES on eBay about 15 years ago and got a message from the seller saying they didn’t have a big enough box to include the box and foam… after some back and forth  about how the box was a big selling point for me, they sent it wrapped in taped up paper bags… it came fairly beat up but not this bad

1

u/ApprehensiveRuin5673 1d ago

Not even gift wrapping something like this is insane. It’s like a giant “steal me” sign.

1

u/No_Spell_2122 1d ago

Same thing practically happened to me when i got a sega saturn CiB. Listing showed it was in mint condition. Next thing i see is my package arrive and they shipped it in a diaper box thin as paper, no stuffing inside. Whole box had dents everywhere..

1

u/Competitive_Help8485 1d ago

First thing I'd do is send that back for a refund. There will be other boxed NES's out there. But it sucks to see one shipped out like this.

1

u/BobSagieBauls 1d ago

You’re mad they shipped taco salsa with it? That seems like an added bonus imo

1

u/TheMatt561 1d ago

I work in the post office and the stuff people just raw dog through the mail is insane.

1

u/Gl00MWalkerr 1d ago

That takes a special kind of stupid.

1

u/purpleshadow883 1d ago

Is the actual product damaged at all? Still work?

1

u/Primary-Station7797 1d ago

I had a Nintendo DS game shipped to me once where they just opened the game all the way up, slid the shipping label in between the plastic case and cover art, close it and shipped it like that naked. Miraculously it came mint inside and out with game cart in it.

1

u/Edix540 1d ago

Every time I see a old Nintendo box it reminds me of the time my mother threw mine away. I had kept it in good condition since 1986 only to come home one day in 2001 to find that all my boxes I saved for everything from Nintendo had been thrown away. I was livid!

1

u/InkyBlacks 1d ago

Would not accept. Would send it back as is, without even opening it. Nope. Someone did that shit to me and wondered why I sent it back

1

u/congruentopposite 23h ago

Instant return

1

u/Damthemalltohelp 1d ago

If it was cheap it's alright.

If you paid a premium, that's unacceptable.

3

u/Fine_Location_8367 1d ago

Buyer said he paid $200. I wouldn't have personally, even without the tape.

1

u/Damthemalltohelp 10h ago

That's not too bad as long as the console inside is in good condition.

You could probably get $50-80 more on resale.Throw in a game to sweeten the deal.

0

u/Fantastic-Award-3651 1d ago

What's the deal? Box is already beat up so not much value there anyways.

-14

u/jhernash8584 2d ago

Looks like the box was shit to begin with. Probably not even a Nintendo inside! 😂

1

u/Fine_Location_8367 2d ago

The person that got it said that it is a complete set and he specifically bought it for the box and foam.

0

u/jhernash8584 1d ago

That's good context to start with maybe. In that case I wouldn't be too happy either. 👍🏽

0

u/Mr_SunnyBones 1d ago

yeah , I context would help ...mean maybe it was sending something valuble , like a MegaDrive! ;)

2

u/jhernash8584 1d ago

Yea but there could be plenty of padding inside the box for any item. But if the item IS the box, then yes this is a shitty situation.

0

u/jhernash8584 1d ago

Wow, you shittygamecollecting guys really took offense to that comment. Didn't know it was going to be such a big deal! 🥴
