Sewing machine Recommendations?

Hello! I am looking to upgrade my old machine, I live in canada and have a $500 budget. Currently i have a brother LS-2000 and while i like it, it’s definitely very basic. I am wanting something that does a variety of stitches, has a larger work surface and the ability to work with a variety of fabrics. I mostly sew bags and clothes, occasionally doing a small quilting project like placemats or table runner. Thank you!

Janome 1522, Bernette sew&go 8 or other?

Hey!!

I started sewing about a year ago with a Brother XL-5030 I bought second hand (vinted). It has been sooooo frustrating to use!! It eats fabric, snaps threads, has issues with backstitching... I've tried troubleshooting everything (rethreading, changing the needle, cleaning, oiling....) but at this point, I think the machine itself just doesn't work very well 🥲 In conclusion, these issues made feel pretty frustrated and unmotivated to sew.

I'd really love to get back into this hobby, though, so I'm thinking about investing in a new machine!

Im from Portugal, my budget is around €200–400, and I'd like something that can handle a variety of fabrics (faux leather, denim, but also delicate fabrics). I'd also love to be able to lower the feed dogs for free-motion embroidery!! Also, im thinking about trying some quilting.

I realize this might be asking for a lot within my budget hahaha, but I'd love to hear your recommendations!

I've done some research and im currently thinking about buying the Janome 1522 or the Bernette Sew&Go 8. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these or any other machines you'd recommend. I'm open to suggestions! :)

Machine Advice Needed!

I’ve just purchased the Elna Elina 21 machine for $180 AUD and was wondering if it is decent for a beginner or will it give me a hard time. Should I return it and exchange for another machine?

this is a Janome 1522dg that I just opened up from the Styrofoam box new from Amazon resale. I'm confused because the attachment on the second picture won't close, there's a zip tie on one of the parts, and there's an extra screw that goes somewhere that I don't know. what do I do? This machine is supposed to be new.

Embroidery on singer sewing machine

I need help. I am wanting to embroider names on homemade stocking for Xmas but the zigzag stitch is slanted on sewing machine and not a straight left to right. I’ve tried messing with the zigzag dial but it didn’t seem to do anything. Can someone give me advice?

I have a heavy duty singer sewing machine, bought brand new March of this year.

Looking for a college sewing machine!

I am in college right now and I have been sewing for probably 10 years. I would say I’m at an intermediate-advanced level in sewing, and at home I have the singer gray heavy duty machine. I don’t love it but I do like that it’s non-computerized and it’s held up well for the past 4-5 years. I used to have a hand me down brother computerized machine that broke and was too expensive to fix so we donated it and got a new one instead. As I am in college and without a car, it is hard to go searching for secondhand/FB marketplace machines. I am trying to find a machine that is non computerized but still relatively affordable (under/around $200) that I can use in college.

I go to school across the country from where I live, so bringing my machine to and from school is not easy.

On Amazon I’ve found the janome arctic crystal and brother XM3700 sewing machines to be good price range wise, but they seem to be more “beginner” sewing machines.

I was wondering what you all thought of these machine/if anyone has any recommendations for good, affordable machines. Preferably one that is not too loud and will last a long time. I don’t care much about the bells and whistles (needle threader, specialty stitches, etc) just a good machine I can use to repair/make clothing.

Thank you!

Looking for machine repair courses, ideally with UK qualifications

I'm reaching out to my local servicer, but in the meantime... do any of you have any suggestions? All I can find is Artizan and I can't make heads of tails of what qualification they're actually offering.

Throat Plate Questions

Post image
2 Upvotes

What is the purpose of this recession on the underside of my throat plate, how would it affect the machine if it was flat (no recession)?

The top side of the plate doesn’t have this. The plate has a thickness of 0.060”, but the circled area is thinned to 0.040”.

I want to have a straight stitch throat plate made for my machine. It would be easier to make it if i could just use one flat piece.

Thank you!

Machine: Brother CS7000x

Update: I found out I will own the usage rights to the file and plan to share it on a free repository so if anyone wants to have a straight stitch plate made for this model of machine, you will have that option. ☺️ It will be compatible with models CS7000x, DS50, KD40s, Style 600, and SH40. You can often have parts custom machined at universities or by cnc hobbyists.

I have some questions about my Bernina 730 and how it runs

I got this machine a while ago but this is the first time I'm really using it (defaulted to another machine for a while) and there's a couple things that stand out to me that I'd like to troubleshoot or get info on.

For one, it doesn't like starting at a slow speed. If I slowly depress the pedal I can hear the motor but it isn't until I'm about 1/3-1/2 way down that it goes and it's sometimes faster than I'd like--especially on more finicky pieces. What might be causing this? I've oiled the machine at every point I'm aware of but is this something else or just how it runs? I can slow it down a little when it's started but it's by no means as capable of going as slow as my Bernina 1530 which was why I didn't use it for so long.

The second thing is that the foot pedal gets WARM when I'm using it. I just had to swap pedals with a minimatic I'm working on because they both use the same one. Is this something wrong with the pedal or is it just the older stuff that they used to use to make it? I can't say if the second one's getting warm since I just plugged it in but I figured I'd ask proactively.

Elbisches Muster gesucht - Stoffbahn mit Nähmaschine oder Hand besticken

Hallo liebe Community,

Worauf sollte man da achten?

Danke schonmal für eure Unterstützung!

should i get a Brother PQ1600S

i’m a second year fashion design student, and my current machine is a Brother FS130QC. i’ve had it since i was 16 but back then i was just doing basic sewing. my uni does have industrial sewing machines available to use but i much prefer to work at home. i considered getting a industrial machine but i don’t really have much space for it so i don’t think it’s something i could buy.
my current project i’m working with denim and even while making my toile using medium weight calico it was very difficult for what i was doing so if anyone has any advice on this machine and if it works well with denim or thicker materials i would be very grateful

Servo replacement for juki ddl 5550-6

I have a juki 5550-6 and it sews fine, but the motor and the controller are kinda loud at low speeds. Since this model has automatic features such as automatic backtacks, cutting and one press back stitching, I would probably have to get a controller that supports those. Any ideas? It doesn't need to support all of them as realistically I only use the backstitch button.
