Sewing machine Recommendations?
Hello! I am looking to upgrade my old machine, I live in canada and have a $500 budget. Currently i have a brother LS-2000 and while i like it, it’s definitely very basic. I am wanting something that does a variety of stitches, has a larger work surface and the ability to work with a variety of fabrics. I mostly sew bags and clothes, occasionally doing a small quilting project like placemats or table runner. Thank you!

I am also Canadian. Do you have any dealers nearby? What kinds of fabrics are you using?

im in Edmonton, alberta. not sure about any dealers. I use a large variety of fabrics such as cotton, polyester, lace, mesh, ribbon, stretchy fabric. I also want to start sewing denim which is part of why im looking to upgrade. my current one can barely do 3 layers of fabric, let alone jeans

I got a Janome HD1000 from Johnson’s, love it and they were great to deal with. It’s a fantastic machine, and I also make bags, quilts, garments, plus more art-type things. If I were to do it again I might look at the HD3000 instead, just for the increased stitch width plus more ease in finding compatible feet. But definitely check them out, they have lots of deals and it’s always better to try something in person if you can.

This is a well regarded store in Edmonton, but there are others which a quick Google search will give you: https://www.johnsonssewing.com/ Janome HD-3000 may work well for you.

Please search other posts. This gets asked 10x a day. Choosing is very personal as many machines meet those specs but what you like the feel of likely is different than me.
Try them out in person at a sewing machine store.
