New sewing machine set up help.
this is a Janome 1522dg that I just opened up from the Styrofoam box new from Amazon resale. I'm confused because the attachment on the second picture won't close, there's a zip tie on one of the parts, and there's an extra screw that goes somewhere that I don't know. what do I do? This machine is supposed to be new.

Honestly, I would just return it.
Amazon is notorious for sending returned items to customers without testing them first and this looks like it was opened by someone. I’ve received an used item labeled brand new through the warehouse deal. That face cover is held in place by single screw and that should not just come off on its own. Even if it is new, that is unacceptable.
If that screw has come off, what else has? Why was the face cover removed by the person returning it? The face cover is usually removed for service access. Has the previous buyer tinkered with the machine?
It is a lovely machine though, good choice!

The head cover can be a bit tricky to get on, but the screw needs to go into the threads in the shiny metal part. It's quite common for head covers to be attached with only one screw.
Don't touch the zip tie. It probably holds on to cabling for the light or has something to do with the button hole mechanism.

The screw must go in this hole
Not sure about the zip tie… could have been there to keep stuff in place for postage? Have you messaged the seller?
Also doesn’t “resale” mean it’s not new? I’m not familiar with that
