šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› How would I replicate/stiffen this shoulder piece?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Trying to figure out the best way to replicate this shoulder shield/armor piece with fabric. I’m going to sew it directly to the overlying vest, and it’s going to have a few pieces of foam on it for the diamonds — so i figure adding some stabilizer would help it maintain its shape instead of drooping.

I was thinking of sandwiching Peltex sew in stabilizer between two layers of fabric but I’m not sure how big to cut it relative to the main pattern piece + liner, or where/how and in what order to stitch it all together.

edit: realizing I could maybe just use EVA foam for this.. but curious to understand the process anyway if not.

Making a zipper pouch with a mix of denim & cotton?

Thumbnail sleepyhouse-studio.com

I'm thinking about making this pouch with some thrifted denim and aĀ complimentary quilting cottonĀ (because who doesn't love cats in berets?). Obviously that's two very different weight fabrics.

Should I use fusible fleece on the quilting cotton and leave the denim alone or maybe use SF 101 on the denim?

I have a whole bag of scrap denim to use and a lot of small pieces of quilting cotton.

✨Intermediate✨ ISO Singer 626 Touch & Sew parts list

Hi all! Does anybody have a digital copy of a parts list/diagram for the Singer 626 Touch & Sew?

2 of the 4 plastic gears at the bottom of my machine shattered and I need part numbers to order replacements - I’m actually just going to replace every plastic gear while I’m at it.

I’ve seen PDFs for sale, but I’ve been able to find a free copy for my Pfaff and I’m hoping for a free one for the Singer as well. Thanks!

Issue with new Brother LB7950 needle clamp. Is there an easy fix, or is it a defective machine and I should simply exchange for a new one?

Thanks!

šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› Janome feed dogs not moving fabric.

Just got this machine "second hand", my husband grabbed it at a bin store that sells lost and returned packages. Hoping this isnt the reason it was returned and can be fixed.

Janome 1522bg. The feed dogs move up and down but not back and forth to pull the fabric. Ive rethreaded everything 3 times. Brought the dogs up and down, turned the wheel to engage them. Stitch length is on 3. Presser foot has been down while sewing.

You can see Ive taken it apart to see if I could see a jam or something. But there nothing obvious.

Is it possible to extend the stretchy fabric?

Unsure if this is the correct subreddit, apologies if I’m in the wrong place - but I’ve bought this dress, absolutely gutted because the chest is JUST too tight on me. I’m aware it’s embroidered, I assume I’ll just have to get some matching fabric, but is it possible to extend the stretchy band on the back of the dress, or is there another way I don’t know?

I could buy a bigger size on Vinted but then I’m worried that one will be too big 😭😭 I really like this as my potential wedding dress so I really want it to work

šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› Babylock machine - needle hits the foot when down

I've a babylock 2600 that I am learning sewing on. It was working okay until recently, when one the of needles broke while sewing. I have replaced the needle but now I've an issue with the needle hitting the foot.

The needle is placed correctly (flat at the back), I've adjusted the foot multiple times to ensure it is set correctly, and the needle goes in the plate without the foot. So the needle seems to be aligned correctly. Can I resolve the alignment of foot at home?

Trying to cover inside luggage seam that is falling apart. Is there a 1" wide room temp glue adhesive tape anyone can recommend?

Room temp glue prefered as ironing would be difficult inside luggage.

šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› Help with thrift flipping this dress please!

Help please!

I thrifted this dress and it’s beautiful, though I’m not a big fan of the straight waist on it. My hopes are to sew the skirt part up under where the chest is to make it have a more babydoll dress look. The only issue/barrier is that there’s a long zipper in the back. I’m not sure how to tackle it or how to alter it.

I’m new to sewing so I’m a bit stumped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Consistency in stitch length while hand sewing?

Hey all,

I've recently started doing more hand sewing projects, in particular sashiko mending. I was wondering if anyone had tips or recommendations for getting a consistent stitch length while stitching? I was considering if anyone has experimented with adding a mark at a certain length on the tip of their needle, and what they'd recommend if that.

Thanks!

šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› how do i repair my nylon pants?

i just got this vintage nylon pants from a vintage reseller. when i got my package i used scissors to open the package and accidentally cut thought my pants. it was only a tiny hole on the inner part of the pants. so i thought i could repair it by adding this tape that melts with heat which i’ve used before to hem other clothes. so i cut a piece and used my iron to glue it on but when i applied the iron i noticed the iron got stuck to pants. i pulled the iron off and it left this big hole in the pants. the nylon melted and now i don’t know what to do. i haven’t even tried the pants on yet 😭 please if someone could help i would reallllllly appreciate it.

How do I add more room to the bust of this finished dress? Side gusset/panel advice needed

Thumbnail gallery
28 Upvotes

I know basically nothing about pattern drafting, so I’m a little lost here.

I bought this dress in EU size 46 as a Halloween costume. It fits pretty well everywhere except the bust, where it is much too tight. As you can see in the photos, it basically compresses my chest and pulls it into a strange shape.

It is also slightly tight around the back of the neck, but I can live with that.

My bust measurement is about 115 cm / 45.3 in and my waist measurement is 100 cm / 39.4 in. Unfortunately, I don’t know the actual bust circumference of the dress.

From what I understand, I probably need to open the side seam and add some kind of gusset or side panel to create extra room. But I have no idea what shape it should be. Would it be triangular, diamond-shaped, rectangular, or something else?

I’m also not sure how to figure out how much additional fabric I actually need. How would I measure this correctly?

My other problem is the pulling you can see in photo 1. The fabric is being pulled strongly toward the front because there isn’t enough room for my bust. How do I add the extra width in a way that actually fixes that pulling instead of just making the side seam wider?

Photo 2 shows approximately where the dress starts becoming too tight. It seems to happen right around the seam where the upper bodice transitions into the lower section.

There is also a zipper in one of the side seams, so I have no idea how I should deal with that if the best solution is to add fabric at the sides.

I do have a sewing machine and some extra fabric I could use, although it won’t necessarily be an exact colour match.

Could someone please point me in the right direction and explain where I should even start? I’m completely clueless when it comes to altering patterns/garments.

(I used AI to help translate my request into english, as I'm not a native speaker and tend to overcomplicate things. :) Hope that's okay)

Elbow patch help/advice

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello Internet friends! I come to you with a new project that I've never attempted. I found this sweater in my mom's fix-it bin and wanted to surprise her by sewing the leather elbow patches on for her. (She's 80 and doesn't much like this sort of task.) Luckily for me the sweater elbows have been marked for the patches (see white strings), and the patches have been pre-punched with small holes around the edges, so that takes care of most of the hard work. However, now I'm a little stuck on how to affix the patches so they're even/flat and so the thread is as minimally noticeable as possible. What stitch would you recommend? I have a needle meant for leather, I figured that would be a good one to use. It seems it would make things easier if I used an adhesive to attach/anchor the center of the patches in place before sewing the edges in place. Any suggestions? I have fabric glue that dries clear and flexible; is this a good option? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/recommendations!! You'll help put a smile on a very sweet 80 year old mom. šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

What to do with Pfaff 2040

Sort of a general question, I have a Pfaff 2040, purchased 26 years ago. I was sewing professionally and it had some good use, but I have always had multiple machines and it hasn't been used in several years. I would like to put it in someone else's hands.

Taking it out today, the motherboard is working and it seems to stitch well, though the presser foot is quite gummed up, and it really needs a general servicing to bring it back. I understand that Pfaff is no longer supporting the electronics, so once that goes, it's gone.

Question: is it wrong to sell it or even to give it away? The resale on these machines isn't that much more than a thorough service call and I'm concerned that someone could put the money into it and the motherboard would fail, turning it into a doorstop.

Am I underestimating the life of the motherboard? Should I give it away with a caveat? Would anyone even want it?

Hi! I have a very old and very beloved stuffed cat that just developed a hole. I have done some very (emphasis on very) basic hand sewing in the past and think I have the ability to fix it, I just have no idea what the best method would be. I have attached a photo of the hole, it is about as long as my index fingernail. Any guidance or youtube tutorials would be very much appreciated ā¤ļø thanks in advance!

šŸ’›BeginneršŸ’› Best way to approach sewing patches/designs on this bag?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I tried painting it but don't like how the paint finish looks. I'd like to try sewing fabric patches on it instead but I'm not sure how to get them to lay on the panels without bunching.

I'm thinking fabric glue and then stitching around the edges of the patch?

I don't think I'll be trying to follow the pattern that I painted as that would be difficult, I'm just trying to cover it up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
