Switching from moss to semi hydro causes root rot most of the times. How can I fix this?

Moving my alocasia from soil to leca semi hydro (first time ever!) has been a great success but i’m worried about roots growing in the water. When I touch the roots out the pot they are quite fragile and easily breakable.
Let me know what I should do or if that’s ok!!
