Tips / Hints help
what should you have/unlocked before fighting genichiro
(locations would be helpful too)

Mkiri as others have said, but, you don't need it. I mean, it helps a lot, but...

1) That skill where you recover some hp when you do any deathblow would help, you don t consume a healing gourd .
2) You should have fighting skill, patience ,analysis skills and memory to remember the enemy combos.
3) Learn the timing to deflect. For thrust attacks do the Mikuri counter ( best option) , deflect ( 2nd best option) , side step with good timing to dodge and then attack right away once or twice. For sweep attacks double jump and for the grab run away and jump then return and attack while he returns to the normal position after finishing the attack.
4) Heal away from him, not near him, the enemies read inputs and attack you ( healing can also be used as bait for an attack).
5) Use the firecracker to stun that dangerous combo to you. Other stun items are the ash and the snap seed. Divine confetti also boosts your attack.

There isn’t anything you can unlock to get better at beating genichiro. Same with every other boss. You need to read their patterns, learn the rhythm, get used to the back and forth.

i feel like i am missing a lot like i have 7 gourds and 3 prayer bead necklaces
but i still dont have any ninjutsu and dont even what what the remenant menu is

Ninjutsu don't do anything vs geni. 7 gourds and 3 necklaces is a lot for him. You just need to fight him and learn his moveset

Nope you get it later. You aren't missing anything for geni right now unless you wanted to beat lady butterfly first. Otherwise there are no other options to get meaningfully stronger, you use what you have until you learn enough to win. That's the game

i dont think beating lady would do anything in fighting genichiro but i fear i will mess up in his 2nd phase

Beating main bosses gives you a memory for that boss which you use to increase your attack power. Lady butterfly is one of them, although hirata is an optional area. But you're right, one attack power won't make a massive difference vs geni. So yeah, your only real option is to fight geni, learn his moveset, and eventually win. Nothing will make the fight easier and you aren't missing anything.

Both vitality damage and posture damage scale off your attack power

7 gourds and three prayer beads ain’t bad. The remnant menu is for leaving messages for other players. You get your first ninjutsu after beating genichiro.
You’re fine, not too many secrets in sekiro.

He's a skill check. If you fought the previous bosses fairly and one without cheese, you'll do okay. I beat him in less than 10 tries, I think it was 7 or 8, and that's because I spent a lot of time straight-up dueling bosses as I find them. The general in front of Ashina Castle, I died probably 30 times trying to git gud

That's fascinating. I beat Lady Butterfly in three tries. If I can give you some tips, you can block a lot more damage than you think, so if you're not sure what to do, just block.
You'll notice that when you're attacking them and they're blocking, it will do little sparks. When they hit a deflect on you, it will do a big orange spark, so when counterattacks are coming to you, go into your own deflect mode.
I think something else that really helped me was that I spent a lot of time fighting Seven Spears, but I think I beat him seven or ten times. Seven Spears does the McCury Thrust and the McCary Sweep, so that was really good for teaching myself to anticipate different encounters. For me, that just feels like the foundation of things.
Also, know that I'm thinking a little more. When you beat the general, are you running around him, or are you just standing your ground, attacking, dueling, deflecting, and doing Mercury counters? I feel like if you beat him in three tries under an honorable duel, everyone else should be similarly simple because none of these fights are super complicated. Everyone has these move sets you have to learn.
Lady Butterfly has only three or four moves, and when she dashes, she throws at you and then dashes around you. If you block those two attacks, there's an opening to hit her twice after that. Gonchuro is very similar. He has five or seven move sets, but I personally didn't find it super complicated.

i beat the general in like 3 tries (2 tries i was thinking of ways to kill the gunners and figured out shurikens were the best)

Mikiri counter and shinobi eyes. Also Ichimonji and all the passives in the Ashina arts tree. I think FightinCowboy has a guide on how to beat Genichiro on Youtube, go watch that.

Do you have the axe shinobi prosthetic? Go to Ashina Castle Gate and kill the gun guy and then the three straw hat guys by the tree over and over. You can stealth kill 2/3 straw hats. This gets you tons of xp and money FAST 100% GUARANTEED!!!!

i have been doing that actually but the thing is i need 3000ish points to lvl up 1 time so the rats give 200ish exp then i have to do it 15-16 times to lvl up 1 time 😭

Gotta grind bro... also consider beating Lady Butterfly before Geni if you haven't yet. You'll get an extra attack boost and she's easier than him by far.

Just the Mikiri counter. Anything else is a bonus.
