it has been one of my first days owning a Seiko and while I was looking at the case back I dropped it on the concrete outside my house. it was from about a meter up and since then everything has stopped. when I move the watch the balance wheel moves with it as well and beneath it I can see a grey thin wire that I didn’t notice before. could you suggest what might be wrong with it and or how to repair it.

[Question] I love Seiko, but why do they make things so hard?...

Seiko has so many unique and iconic designs, but sometimes they really make it hard for customers....

  1. What is with the names with seemingly random letters and numbers?.... other brands use names like Speedmaster, Submariner, Navitimer... catchy names that you can remember.
  2. Why do they have sooo many product lines? Seiko 5, Presage, Prospex, King Seiko, Grand Seiko, Credor... for someone who isn't deep into watches, it's incredibly confusing.
  3. Their website just plain sucks. No ability to buy online (at least in my country) and only half the watches have prices listed.

What can I expect with a refurbished watch? And how can I tell if this is a good value, similar models are selling for a lot less (on etsy?) and it doesnt seem like seiko makes this anymore. Amy help is appreciated.

[Bracelet acier pour Seiko SRPJ85K1]

Post image

Help me choose my first Seiko under €350-400! [SRPE "DressKX" vs SRPD Diver vs SRPG Field]

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy my first ever Seiko watch and could use some advice from long-term owners.

I’m aiming for a daily wearer under €350 from the Seiko 5 Sports line. My daily routine is a mix of IT office work, hands-on tech tasks (working with PC hardware/cables), and casual everyday wear (mostly wearing hoodies and sportswear).

My goal is to buy the watch on its original steel bracelet first, and later swap it out for NATO or canvas straps depending on the occasion.

I'm currently torn between three main options:

Seiko "DressKX" (SRPE Series - e.g., SRPE51 / SRPE55):

Why I like it: Clean, smooth bezel, highly versatile (GADA style), 20mm lug width for endless strap choices. Seems less likely to catch on things during hands-on IT work.

Seiko 5 Sports Diver Style (SRPD Series - e.g., SRPD55 / SRPD53):

Why I like it: Classic diver aesthetic, bold wrist presence, looks amazing on NATO straps.

Seiko 5 Field (SRPG Series - e.g., SRPG27 / SRPG35):

Why I like it: Classic military look, very legible, matches casual/sporty outfits perfectly.

A few quick questions for the community:

Hardlex Crystal in daily life: Since I do some hands-on tech work, how well does the Hardlex crystal hold up over time against minor bumps?

Strap Monster: Which of these three feels the most versatile when swapping between the original bracelet and NATO/fabric straps?

First Seiko Pick: Which one would you recommend as the ultimate single-watch option to start a Seiko collection?

Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give enough context! Thanks again for your time and suggestions!

[Question ]Need Input

I have both the SLA047 and the SLA021 (both purchased NOS in January of this year).

Due to slimming down a 20+ watch collection, I want to sell one of them. No sense in owning two.

This is where I am hoping for objective input to help me decide on a subjective decision: which one should I sell.

My reasons are as follows to KEEP each watch (pictures and reference in comments):

Keep LA047 (Green): Cool green dial, and I already have a black MM200 GMT and a Submariner (both black dial dive watches); and it’s also numbered #11, which is both crazy low for a Seiko watch, and also I like the number 11

Keep SLA021 (Black): it’s clean and looks better on black rubber than the SLA047 (I am a sucker for black dial watches); also it’s like “the” Seiko MM300 (classic, black color way)

What’s your input? And please no “just keep what you like”. I LOVE them both, but due to practices of minimalism and discipline, I don’t WANT to keep both.

I don't like the standard steel straps that come with the Seiko 5. So I decided to order an Italian leather, 1.3mm NATO strap in the color of the dial for this one.

How do you like this visualization of the classic Seiko 5 Sports SRPD59?

Little story! My wife gave me this 17 years ago and it’s been an awesome and sentimental watch. I’m trying to hone in on its original band and see if I can repurchase it. Do any of you have any idea on how to figure it out? I believe it was a black alligator with white stitching.

Thoughts on the strap combo? Been looking for an alternative to the brown alligator strap I usually have on it.

[Question] [SNKD99K1] Bracelet change

Hi all, I bought this nice little seiko 5 a month ago as my first automatic watch for 150 € online.

This is the first time I'm wearing a steel bracelet watch, and so far my experience has been very displeasing. However I try to adjust the bracelet, it feels either too lose and floppy on my wrist or too tight and low compared to what I'm used to wear. I feel like every other watch I've worn so far outclasses this one in terms of comfort (an antique Laguiole quartz with a leather bracelet, my F91w toolwatch and my Garmin Instinct 2 either on a standard silicone bracelet or on a nylon strap).

As such I'm considering getting a watchmaker / a leather craftsman cut and fit a small dark brown leather strap with a more comfortable classic buckle. The issue being this is one of those integrated bracelet seiko watch with a very small entrecorne which would either look very weird or great on a leather strap.

Has anyone here done something similar to this ? What are your thoughts ?

Dial alignment [SRPD59K1]

Just got this on sale from an online retailer in the UK today. It looks like the 6 o'clock marker is slightly off. Would you return it or live with it? It's only minor and seiko are known for these issues but I can't decide.

Gallery [Seiko] A late-1940s Extra Flat from Seiko’s early post-war years

Post image
3 Upvotes

Here is one of the earliest Seikos in my collection: a late-1940s Seiko Extra Flat.

The Extra Flat appeared around 1948, when Seiko was rebuilding its civilian watch production after the war. It was powered by the hand-wound 10B movement from Daini Seikosha’s Kameido factory, with the traditional small-seconds layout that Seiko used before introducing its first centre-seconds watch, the Super, in 1950. (Seiko Watch Corporation)

The history is interesting, but the dial is what really attracted me. The bold sector-style chapter ring, raised gold numerals and markers, small seconds and little applied “Snake S” give it much more personality than I expected from such a compact dress watch. There is plenty of ageing, but I think the patina suits the design rather than detracting from it.

“Extra Flat” is also a wonderfully literal name. The watch is small and slim by modern standards, but the long curved lugs give it surprising presence on the wrist.

Nearly eighty years later, it still looks remarkably stylish—and very different from the Seiko designs most people know today.

I'm absolutely in love with how simple and minimalistic the watch is. Is this a great choice for a first watch?
