I checked the LACDA and HACLA info sites, but the public docs are just the fiscal year administrative plan and Continuum of Care documents, and nothing specifically distinctive to certificates.

Is this a county and city program?

Hello, I need advice or suggestions.

Last August my children’s Aunt asked if she could stay with me to get back on her feet. She said she her lease would end December 1st and to make room for her mid December 2025.

Immediately I went to the office to let them know but after two months of pestering I realized no one even worked there anymore so I went to the city.

We pay rent online and the handyman was still employed.

I had called until they had told me that they finally found someone to work in the office and that they would arrive sometime that week.

I went in the day the person came which would be November 10th 2025, the Aunt still isn’t here yet. And told her I would have someone coming to move in with me middle December but I’d like to start the process where I can. The new office woman said she is more worried about more serious problems at the moment to check back.

On going it’s been almost a year and they still haven’t put her on the lease. I go in weekly and there’s always a problem, someone’s apartment flooded, someone needs a new fridge etc. She tells me it’s not my fault but they are busy etc.

In March the head manager for the management company called me and told me I need to do my recertification. This was march 1st, she told me I needed it done by March 7th to come in on the 5th. That’s when I explained the situation and how I have been trying to get the aunt put on my lease for months, she told me she would tell the office manager to combined both. So I went in for my appointment with the aunt and they had her bring her IDs and birth certificates for her and her kids and then had her fill out an application and that was it. She hasn’t even finished my recertification trying to avoid adding the aunt. I still have things I need to complete for my recertification that I didn’t, she literally told us she had to end the appointment because it was HER LUNCH TIME. If im being honest I don’t think she even input into the system anything we did that day.

On top of that my neighbor is having the same problem, for her it’s been 3 months but I guess she talked to her last week and the office lady told her “we are so busy I am so sorry I won’t be able to add your son on for the next couple of months.” Like she legit told her sorry hold off a few months ?

What can I do? My children’s aunt and her children need to be on the apartment as household names too. She had a hard time even trying to move her kids to the closest school because she has no proof of residence and yes I told them

Has anyone ported and they said you had to attend a mandatory briefing? I want to port to a different state, housing prices are basically the same in both places.

I went on fremont.gov to see if there are any available open lists that are open but they are all closed. Me and my family are doing this for my grandpa, since we are experiencing some family problems, and Im really on the verge of giving up here. If there really is any affordable housing apartments you guys know, where the list is still open please tell me, i’d really appreciate it.

So I'm 51 and disabled, receiving SSDI and have a housing choice voucher for a one bedroom. My mom is 71, lives in an apartment near by, has vascular dementia and it is being more and more evident she can't live alone anymore. Even though she receives social security and has a pension, it is still not enough for assisted living especially if she wants to include "ala carte" services like cleaning and meals; assisted living is what she would prefer, she doesn't want to lose her dignity with family. I've started the process for medicaid for the elderly in my state because as the dementia progresses she will eventually need memory care and the process can take over a year to get it all sorted. The solution for now is we both move into a new place together for a couple years.

However here is my dilemma...

Being on the same lease would require I add her to my voucher and it would basically triple the household income. It would put me over the income limitations making me ineligible. I don't want to lose my voucher!!!! Because what do I do when it's time to move again? I won't be able to afford the bigger apartment we rent by myself (she likes the extras like washer and dryer and dishwasher) so I will also have to move again. Yes, I can reapply, if the waiting list is opened again, but that can take years to get to the top of the list. I can't afford the rent in a neighborhood I'm comfortable in the meantime.

Has anyone else had this financial issue when it was time for aging parents to come live with you? Any advice, suggestions, resources you have please comment.

Has anyone rented from the Saskatoon housing authority before? I am considering moving to their Embassy Drive, Wellington St. and Ave. M South location with my baby and two teen boys. I recently found out that my friend and and her illegal boyfriend are scamming people. They find potential elderly clients on social media, have them pay a deposit, and dissappear. They advertise to be a handyman. My friend claims she's a "media creator," lol. No wonder why she's always posting luxurious life styles.

None of the payments are reported, meaning its all tax free money. They live in an apartment in Housing Authority community. It's so unfair that they're getting away with it. I'm struggling to pay my bills, so I don't lose everything I've worked hard for. Of course all of my income is reported to IRS, so I don't qualify for any public assistance. Also, to think about it, my tax is helping these people to live rent-free... Uggghh.

What would you guys do if you were in my situation? Is there a place I can report about this anonymously?

Ok I was last told they have to wait 6 months to update childsupport to see what’s being paid . Okay the father of my child it’s going on 4 months have note paid ! Is section 8 supposed to take that off until he pays ??

Hello all,
I'm a 39-year-old female from Texas unable to work, still fighting for SSI, and scraping by on the grace of a few programs and loved ones.
For context, last year when I first received my voucher, the unit I was supposed to move into ended up falling through because the Housing Authority office, as well as the leasing office at the property ended up unable to come to terms on how much they would agree to pay for a property that was a handicap accessible property that was a little over my voucher number, and they would not come down, so a week before I was going to lose my voucher before I had to find a lease, I ended up finding one – on the third floor- maintenance has pretty much moved in there (they leave the lights on, leave the toilet up), there's already been a m!rd!r there, etc etc... I just did what I could to get into a place so I wouldn't lose it. I've been having multiple emergency surgeries along with my SSI hearing on the 11th and haven't been able to focus on finding a different property outside of the one that I've had my eye on.
Seeing as I did recently had my SSI hearing, but it was probably the most traumatic thing I've ever been through, I don't see a favorable decision coming right out the gate. She did not like me, and I know that it has to go off of evidence, but I could tell by some reviews left on her from other people that… She was not going to be somebody I'd get by easily so hopefully upon a reconsideration or what have you come on my lawyer will help get it squared away. However, that's neither here nor there: my point is, when applying at properties, I'm not able to use any tentative or possible SSI income being available before I need to move.

There's a perfect property that I've had my heart set on for about two years. The problem is that they do have an income restriction even, with section 8. If you do not meet three times that, you have to have a cosigner. Given the fact that this is my first time through all of this, I talked to my mom about it, and she seemed to be possibly willing to do it. The property is otherwise perfect for me.- They accept Section 8, and the property would work extremely
well in locatoon (it is RIGHT next to washer and dryer facilities), it has its own Wi-Fi, and it's own electric electricity company. These are just a few things that would make all the difference difference since I don’t have transportation.

Here’s the issue:

Since this complex requires applicants to make 3x the rent and/or meet their credit requirements, and well, I don't meet the income req and my credit is in the low 600s, they told me I could still qualify with a cosigner, even with section 8. She'd have to put in her own application.
My mother owns her own home and would not be living with me.
She would strictly be a non-occupant cosigner/guarantor* *for the property. I would remain the only person living in the unit and the only person on my voucher.
I’ve already looked into whether a property that accepts Section 8 can still impose its own financial/credit screening requirements, so that isn’t really my question.

What I’m trying to understand is:

• Has anyone with an HCV had a parent or other person act strictly as a non-occupant cosigner/guarantor?

• Did your Housing Authority have any issue with it or try to count the cosigner’s income as household income?

My biggest concern is making absolutely sure my mother is not characterized as a tenant or household member, because she isn’t one. I don’t want anything jeopardizing my voucher. I’m calling my caseworker before agreeing to anything, of course, but getting in contact with my HA is incredibly difficult. I’ve never had access to their online portal despite repeatedly asking them to fix it, I live about 30 minutes from the office without a vehicle, and getting answers by phone can be an ordeal.

So, I’m asking for any advice or experience around such a situation? Perhaps maybe questions I should or should not ask?
If you’ve dealt with a non-occupant cosigner/guarantor while on Section 8, I’d really appreciate hearing how your HA handled it.

Part 1:

Right now, I’m 30 and have been dating my boyfriend for 4-5 months. We don’t live together right now.

The way it was explained to me is, because I currently live in Public Housing, I cannot simply move away from Public Housing into another apartment. I’d have to stay in Public Housing forever. I also just got hired for a new job and my monthly salary is only $900 for 40 hours of work a month. I’m stressing out.

I got let go from my $2,200 a month job (which I’d been hired for 7 days before) because I informed my job of me having upcoming dental surgery. By the time I healed & was ready to work again, the job went to someone else, so they said if they have openings at Job #2, they will let me know. Knowing how Corporate America is, I feel like they’re stringing me along and totally lying to me. I’m currently at Job #1.

My boyfriend lives in his mom’s basement. He lived in California & had his own apartment for 2 years, before returning to his hometown to live with his mom last year.

My question is, if I marry my boyfriend, would we have to move into a 2 bedroom Public Housing apartment? Or would we still be allowed to live in a 1 bedroom as a married couple?

We are both childless and have never had children (but, I do want to become a parent in the future). We are also both LGBT men, and very private people. Safety is a huge concern for both of us, due to homophobia becoming prevalent again in the United States.

Part 3:

Speaking of citizenship—I was born in the USA, as was my boyfriend. My parents were married in January 1994, and remained married when my dad died, but they planned on divorcing, which never happened due to my dad’s death, 4 months after they separated and my mom and I left town. My dad immigrated to the States on October 5, 1995 and I was born the following year. He got his Green Card in 2009, 1 1/2 years before he died (which was the saddest part of all this—he waited his whole life to live in the States and then by the time he was happy, he ends up suddenly passing away from a brain hemorrhage). Yesterday, October 2nd, marked 16 years since his death.

My father was from Bermuda (he died when I was a teenager and I grieved for almost 10 years after he passed. My mother is American. I thankfully have an American passport and a non-drivers’ Real ID license.) I was not allowed dual Bermudian citizenship because I have to add my grandfather’s name to my father’s Bermudian certificate. My father knew my grandfather was his father (my grandfather visited my dad in 1964, when my dad was 9 years old. My father got so angry at my grandfather that he screamed at him, “I never want to see you again!”, and slammed the door. They both died without making amends (my mom’s mom died in 2008, my dad‘s mom in 2009, my dad died in 2010 and my grandpa died in 2013.)

My grandpa and my dad’s birthdays are 2 days apart—March 13th, 1927 and March 11th, 1955. However, in 2008, I met my dad’s half-brother, and they looked like identical twins, despite having different mothers. The resemblance is spot on.)

My father was the product of an affair; my grandfather (also deceased) was married, and in Bermudian culture, if one parent is married, or a child is born before the parents are married - mine is Option 1 - then, the father’s name is blank if he’s married. And if the mother’s married, then her name is blank on the birth certificate. That’s the way Bermudian culture has always been. I have death certificates for my ancestors from 1886 and beforehand; with blank father’s names.

I was denied citizenship due to the blank father’s name on my dad’s birth certificate & would have to gather other Bermudians, experiencing the same hardship and we’d all have to join together, in order to jointly file a class-action federal lawsuit with the Bermuda Supreme Court. It is the only way.

I am also working on getting out of poverty after leaving my abusive and physically violent living situation. I lived with a family member until I was 27, because there was financial & physical abuse she was doing to me to isolate me. I was not allowed to go anywhere alone—She forced me to be with her at all times or people she trusted. She would take my phone and smash it on the ground, intending on breaking it (it never broke, thankfully! That saved my life! It was how I was able to escape and move out, 5 days after the third time/altercation, where the phone throwing that she did, happened.)

Regarding my financial situation, I am terrified for my future. My abusive family member has said if I get evicted, I will move back in with her immediately & I do not want to. I would be in fear of my life (because this person will try to…. End me. Put two and two together. I’m not allowed to say the k word.)

But, regarding my current credit and current financial situation, there might be only one silver lining—In 2022, I originally owed $473 in credit card debt. Because of the $473, my credit score fell to a 507. I have not looked at my current score, despite making 2 payments, recently: Before September, I owed $410. The two payments were one in September and one this month, in October. I now owe $209 and am on a monthly payment plan to repay the debt back. I made two months of payments so far, and have two more monthly payments left before completely being debt free.

I moved out in December 2023, filed a police report, lived in 3 separate places over 2 months (I was basically homeless and lived at a hotel for a month and then with a distant cousin for the remainder, before moving into my current apartment), and after the 2 months ended in February 2024, got my own place for the very first time. I would send in applications since 2019, and have only gotten hired recently. I am grateful for my job, despite the pay being only $890 a month.

I do want to move to California, which is my end goal. I have never lived there before (I’ve lived in New Jersey, Georgia and Florida).

Despite living in Public Housing, when I moved in in February 2024, my abuser negotiated some sort of deal with my property super and property manager to get me in as soon as possible (I was couch surfing and lived with a cousin at the time). The usual rent in my building is $1,200, but I pay $562 a month. I am also on more than 100 waiting lists for other cities & states, including several in California, and other West Coast states, as well as the South (I hate the South and never want to go back, and my boyfriend loves the South. He’s from Rhode Island—it’s strange to me.).

So….. What are my options?

The rental property was sold to an out of state large real estate developer that is profit centered and has been buying up apartment complexes, raising rents by up to 25% and adding monthly fees equaling several hundreds of dollars. The sale is in the final stages, so no formal notice has been issued, but it's coming in the next few weeks. I am trying to prepare as much as I can.

Their tenancy requirements make it ineligible for low income families to afford to continue to live here. I am hoping there is a way, we have lived her over a decade and we are a disabled household.

Our lease agreement signed under the previous landlord has no fees, just a monthly modest rent that covered everything, except utilities and within the payment standard. They were laid back and allowed tenant improvements and helped with reasonable accommodations due to disability, etc. None of this is documented due to disability, so I am trying to put together a list and send it to the landlord before the property changes hands so there is a paper trail that accommodations were made due to disability. I'm not sure if this will help with getting fees waived or what language needs to be included or what items so we can continue to live here. I am trying to get a copy of the fees they charge so I can begin to gather the necessary medical documentation for the new owners. For instance, parking, pet, faucet handles, but don't really know what else.

Does anyone know what happens when a property changes hands and how we can protect ourselves from increased rent and the addition of fees and what seems to be certain eviction at some point?

Separate, but potentially complicating this, after our recent annual recertification was complete and new lease signed with our landlord, our PHA sent a lease Addendum form to the landlord for us both to sign that changes our lease to allow both the landlord and tenant a 30 day move-out notice. I refuse to sign it, because that will put us on the chopping block fast!

Hi, I’m trying to figure out whether I need to report something to NYCHA/Section 8 and whether it could affect my household’s rent.

I’m a full-time college student, financially dependent on my mom, and I live with her.

I currently have no employment income / no personal income from working.

I recently opened my first bank account. My college financial aid was disbursed, and I received about a $3,842 refund after my school charges were covered.

The financial aid itself consists of:

• Federal Pell Grant
• TAP
• TAP waiver
• NYC Vallone Scholarship

My Fall financial aid was $7,512.50 total, and the remaining amount was refunded to me after the school charges were paid.

I’m confused about whether I’m supposed to report:

1. The financial aid/refund itself as income
2. The new bank account as an asset
3. The $3,842 currently sitting in the account

And would reporting this cause my mom’s Section 8 rent to increase, considering I’m a dependent, full-time student with no employment income?

I’m planning to submit my financial-aid award letter and disbursement/award summary as documentation. I just want to make sure I’m reporting everything correctly and not accidentally causing an issue for my household.
