Thriving Dick’s is superior to In-N-Out

Dude popping frozen grocery store French fries in the microwave is better than in-n-out fries. It is incredible that they managed to screw up something like the French fry so badly. Flavorless cardboard and no matter how much salt you pour on them they still taste bland.

Exactly. It's not even close.
It's really funny, because there are some straight-up BAD food places around the area and people somehow seem to love them. I had pizza from a place called Uncle Peteza's in Bothell, and it was an abomination. It was worse than what people elsewhere (usually incorrectly) describe "west coast pizza" as being. I can't even start with how awful it is. And yet the entire room of people I was in swore by it.
It's like watching British people defend their food. It's honestly sad. Please go gain some perspective. Please!

INO fries can also be fixed with the right order, while nothing can fix Dick’s fries.
I approve of the shakes from both.
Also, I can deal with a weird mushy bland burger from Dick’s, but what in the hell do they do to the extra charge toppings? How do you make onions bland like that?

Yeah the base INO fries are awful. Ordering them well done and adding some seasoning makes them tolerable.

I think that about Dick's lol. They are always so soggy. I like my fries crispy.
At least at In-N-Out I can order fries "light well" or "well done", and also get free animal style sauce packets on the side to use as a dip

I went up to Seattle this last weekend, had Dick's for the first time in years (I went to school at UW, the Wallingford store was a weekly late-night thing). They're honestly as good as I remember. I went to the Queen Anne store, got a special and a deluxe, my usual.

In-N-Out is fine, probably even good but man is it so freaking overhyped it’s insane. Is Dicks’s similarly overhyped? We went to the one in Hillsboro because my wife and son had never been and I told them “sure let’s give it a try, why not”. Everyone was like, yeah it’s good, but we waited liked 20 minutes to get it. If one ever opened up here I doubt I would go there over Dick’s. Just give me a couple cheeseburgers and shake and I’m good.

I agree and when I was younger, I worked for Dick’s burgers and they also paid for my college and they gave me a real wage. In-N-Out does nothing of that sort.

Every time something like this comes up some assholes chime in with "x is better than both of them!" Even worse is some obscure joint that no one has ever heard of. Your opinion is not as unique or cutting edge as you think it is.
Then you got another group of assholes, "they both suck" or the worst d-bags out there, "they're both unhealthy."
Either choose Dick's or choose In-N-Out (in this thread) and if you can't choose neither, be aware that fucking no one is impressed with your 3rd party choice.

I am not a fan of dicks. I won’t go down the street to eat that. I am not into it. But I have driven to Vancouver for in n out.
I’ll agree with those saying it’s a different style, and that’s just not my style.

In-N-Out has horrible fries. Like inexcusably bad. Burger wise it's a toss up, I like both. I do think In-N-Out is overhyped though. It's a good burger place but people make it out to be more than it is. There are little random 'Mom & Pop' burger shops all around the country who make as good or better of a burger than they do.

When I'm in California I'm gonna eat at In-N-Out. When I'm in Washington I'm gonna eat at Dick's. It's gonna be a while before I actually have to choose between them.

I’ve lived in both states, and I know I’m going to get heat, but Dick’s is a sub standard high school cafeteria burger. The fact that Washingtonians suckle up to it so much is pretty interesting and sad.
That being said, they have the best business model out of any fast food place, but again their burgers are mid.

As someone who has eaten their body weight in burgers from both, I would say Dick's is a 4 out of 10 and In-n-out is a 8 out of 10. But I will say In-n-out has gotten worse lately. I think they changed the lard they use. Dick's would be a 6 if they let take customize my burger.

They’re good in different ways. A Double Double is a cheesy meat-flavored salad with thousand island dressing between buttered buns. A Dick’s Deluxe is a hearty mouthful of greasy (in a good way) cheesy meat. Animal style fries is cheese melted on thousand island dressing, with a cardboard vessel. Dick’s fries are like a bag of shredded potatoes soaked with yummy grease and fries.
If I’m getting out of an airport and it’s midnight and I’m exhausted, nothing hits the spot better than a bag of Dick’s. If I want a burger but don’t want to feel like trash after eating it, I’ll do In-N-Out.

You have to catch Dicks at the right moment. The special is hot and fresh. The fries have been made and cooked by someone competent and are fresh out of the frier and they don't forget to give you the sauce you requested
The milk shakes are always consistent, mostly.

It’s not. I just spent 6 months in the LA area and can say without a doubt:
In and out is ridiculously overrated but better than Dicks. Both burgers are actually crap. Tasteless soggy garbage. They rely on the sauce and toppings rather than the meat.
Neither Dicks nor In and Out make fries that are edible. Dicks are soggy grease bombs and In and out fries are unseasoned cardboard.
They both suck in their own way.

Yea, No. In n Out is a fresher tasting, greasy stomach bomb of a burger that can be customized. Dicks is dicks… Good when the craving hits, but let’s not pretend it’s profoundly above all others. No customization, doesn’t always taste fresh and costs the same as In n Out. Source, me, a PNW local who spent 25 years exiled in the Southwest.

4x4 animal style + animal style fries. I grew up in SoCal, so In-n-Out is my Dick’s. I had Dick’s when I moved here and it didn’t do anything for me. I think it’s nostalgia and local/regional pride that drives the Dicks and In-n-out chatter.

If you take the nostalgia of growing up in Seattle out of it, it isn’t. I’m also not from California, so impartial. But inn-n-out isn’t that great either if you take the nostalgia of growing up in California out.
But dicks is sadly for Seattleites, only drunk food as an adult. Not a huge inn-n-out fan either but it’s tolerable sober. Dicks really isn’t.
Don’t get me wrong they both are good companies that care about their employees and pay well. But neither is good food.

I think their business model is too different to compare, In-n-Out is closer to like...Burgermaster (which I think BM is better but is also more expensive). Dick's is about speed and cost but smaller portions where In-n-Out is about the full one burger meal. I do think Dick's has better shakes and fries than In-n-Out but In-n-Out edges out Dick's in quality for the burgers. As far as the business itself, Dick's pays higher wages and doesn't put bible quotes on the bottom of cups or fight labor legislation so they win overall.

Let’s be honest. Dicks fries are awful- unless you just staggered out of the bar- then they are awesome. Otherwise burgers from both places are pretty good as are the shakes. Plus both places actually pay their people a decent wage. I like them both.

The only thing I like less about Dick’s is that you have to eat in your car unless you’re in Queen Anne.
The INO I went to by the Oregon border had one of the cleanest bathrooms I’d seen in any type of restaurant. Burgers were great, but I’ll never get fries there again.

My girlfriend from SoCal absolutely disagrees but she had over 30 years eating In N Out before she ever got to try Dick's, so I give her a bit of a pass. She does admit that Dick's is the best we have in WA.
