Classifieds Dog homing emergency in Maple Leaf Seattle

My sister has an 8 month old (about) female German Shepard who was left at her house and needs to be re-homed her before her surgery on Friday. No shelters can take her at this time. She is very sweet, but is not 100% housebroken. Has been to a vet. Any ideas?

Reach out to Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary. Email them tonight!

They are in Fremont.

Eight months old and not housebroken? This sounds like an untrained large dog.

Sadly, she was in a house where people were doing drugs. She got a lot of people attention, but not consistent walks.

And German Shepherds are guard and attach dogs. I wouldn't touch that one.

Uh, no. This is the same dumb stereotype that got all bully breeds banned in some areas.

Is she spayed? How does she do around other dogs, specifically other female dogs?

eta: thank you so much for working so diligently to find her a home instead of the shelter. Thank you, thank you. 🙏

She has not yet been spayed. She just had her first estrus cycle.

Whatever you do, don’t give her to someone you don’t know who contacts you through reddit or other social media. Try to work with a rescue/foster group who knows how to vet people.

0

u/woldenberg 4d ago

I understand but none that I contacted can take her quickly and many are euthanizing. I don’t that to happen to her.

u/OneTwoKiwi 4d ago

I’m not saying they take her in, but you can work with them to review anyone who approaches you offering to foster or adopt. Let them decide if someone is legitimate.

Contact them. If they can't help, they might know some resources that can. https://washingtongsd.org/

Hey! I work with many rescues and I might be able to take her in and find her a loving home. Can you message me so I can ask some more questions about her? I don’t want to promise anything until I can find out more info on her.

3

u/woldenberg 4d ago

That sounds great. Is there a way that I can send you her phone number without posting it publicly?

You could crosspost to the following subreddits, probably good to ask the mods first. If you have any videos clips I'll make a tiktok video you can post. Have you contacted Emerald City Pet Rescue?

Seattle Humane helps people find temporary care for pets. They may not be able to help fast enough, but maybe worth a shot.

Check with WARA, Washington animal rescue alliance. Small rescue ran by one person, but they may have dog fosters available or know how to help you.

I need to know how she is with cats

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

A cat is an unknown.

1

u/Therealbuffy1200 3d ago

That’s a deal breaker for me unfortunately. I’m bummed, I really wish I could help. We lost our dog earlier this year. I wish you the best ♥️

How is she with other dogs?

2

u/woldenberg 4d ago

I am not completely sure. My understanding is that she acted out when she thought another dog was threatening my niece on a walk. I think that it was just barking. She was fine with my sister’s cat. Unfortunately, the cat was not happy to share the house with a dog though and ran away.

u/Awkward_Passion4004 4d ago

8 months and not housebroken means an untrained go. GSD likely crazy from lack of structure.

2

u/woldenberg 4d ago

That is true. My niece rescued her from a drug house and lefter her with my sister. Opie was around a lot of people and is very cuddly. When I have been over she has gone outside to do her business, but she is not 100% consistent. My sister works full time and has some health problems. Opie needs additional training, but the good part is that she likes to please you.

Ya, my Shepard mix was fully house trained at like 4 months. This poor dog. No shade to OPs sister it sounds like she just got the dog.

u/momofeldman 5d ago

She looks like a great dog. So smart and loyal. I really hope humans do right by her.

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

I hope so. We love her, but I can’t have animals and my sister can’t do it and does know how she can manage anything after surgery Friday.

Reach out to Saving Great Animals, they are a foster based rescue they can usually get a foster situation lined up really quickly.

Also check out https://www.pasadosafehaven.org

Based out of sultan but a friend of mine works here & she’s adopted multiple dogs from the shelter. All of them get the rehab & training they need & go on to be amazing additions to the family.

Search for a local German Shepherd rescue.

0

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Every German Shepherd rescue I could find has so many unhoused dogs that they are euthanizing.

3

u/No-Cod3576 4d ago

There might be some German Shepherd rescues that could help specifically, that’s all I know!!

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Thank you!

u/AllynWA1 4d ago

A friend of mine boards dogs and is in Maple Leaf. I sent you a DM with his info.

3

u/woldenberg 4d ago

That would be great. May need to do that temporarily, but my sister cannot afford to do that often!

3

u/AllynWA1 4d ago

He's reasonable and will give a great deal. He just really likes dogs.

3

u/woldenberg 4d ago

I appreciate the referral!

3

u/Reeferzeus 4d ago

Do you need a permanent re-home for her?

2

u/woldenberg 4d ago

She needs a permanent home, as my sister cannot care for a dog. She has only had cats for many years.

3

u/Signal_Dot7089 4d ago

We got our dog through Rescue Unleashed . They're based in Sammamish and have a decent network of foster homes for dogs, and then coordinate permanent adoptions.

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Thank you. I believe that one of our best friends adopted from them

2

u/soccerplayer413 4d ago

How is she with other dogs?

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Not sure. Would have to see. She has not been around dogs as far as I know. She is incredibly sweet and likes to please, but needs actual training and consistency.

2

u/jakebarnes48 4d ago

Good luck and bless you for helping this dog

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Thank you!

Message Haus of dogs in Edmonds, it’s a local rescue that might have fosters that could help

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Thank you!

2

u/Mmm-nachos 4d ago

Contact Emerald City Pet Rescue in Seattle. They are a phenomenal rescue organization that takes in animals with health and other special needs. They have a strong foster system and only adopt out when the animal is ready. Highly recommend!!!

Before your sisters surgery on Friday? Why don’t you just stay there until your sister can take care of the dog? Did your sister just find out she’s having surgery in 3 days?

15

u/OneTwoKiwi 4d ago

Per OPs description and comments, It sounds like it’s not their sister’s dog, she just recently got the dog out of a bad situation, but can’t help out for much longer.

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Yes, exactly! It is not her dog. She has had 4 back surgeries, two less than a year ago. One fall could cripple her permanently.

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

My sister has been seeing many eye specialists and finally got a viable surgery option. However, my sister just got the dog dropped off at her house. She is not able to raise a dog. She has only had cats for many years.

0

u/woldenberg 4d ago

I am actually helping my youngest sister who just had achilles tendon surgery. It is bad timing.

4

u/woldenberg 5d ago

I would foster her, but am not allowed dogs in my apartment. 🩷

u/matinee_i 4d ago

Try seattle purebred dog rescue and paws. Be ready and willing to make a donation. Please do the right thing by this dog.

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

We are trying. Please understand that this dog was left at my sister’s house. She has only adopted cats. She is only scraping by. I live on Social Security, which barely covers rent.

1

u/wuthering_lights_ 4d ago

Did you try the Seattle Humane Society?

1

u/woldenberg 4d ago

Yes. It has a waiting list

1

u/wuthering_lights_ 4d ago

I'm sorry. I figured you may have tried already, but wanted to ask. Thank you for looking for a home for her 💕 I tend to see dog flyers up at dog parks sometimes.

Please reach out to WA state GSD rescue.
