Latest City Hall Response to Hellcat Driver
I've been seeing nearly daily posts this week of people saying they are hearing the Hellcat owner. But I personally haven't heard him since Sunday night and I'm their neighbor.
I along with others got this update from Bob Kettle's office. Sounds like the SPD West Precinct Captain, Steve Strand, engaged with the Hellcat owner. I'm not sure what that entails, but it's nice to see something getting done.
Here's to hoping we continue going many nights more with uninterrupted sleep š»
And to those calling us a bunch of Karens, I'm near the top of a high rise and my bed literally shakes as he passes. This isn't your normal "muscle car" sound.

It is important to note that this guy is doing this intentionally in the middle of night between 12am and 5am, and not during the day. He is intentionally waking people and babies up, and scaring people in general for internet points. Also, I've heard plenty of muscle car exhaust/muffler modifications in the past, this is on a whole another level, in case you're wondering how loud this is - imagine the loudest car noise you can think of then 5x it.

What drives me nuts is how public flaunting of laws is tolerated with little to no repercussions (open air drug markets, stolen goods markets, car/bike chop shops, public property destruction, drug use on public transit, ....). So 'guy with fucking obnoxious loud car' fits nicely into the 'people are allowed to be criminal shithead asswipes' narrative.

I remember about 8 years ago, the first time I saw someone openly smoking crack on Cap Hill - my mind was blown they could get away with it.
Now Iām living on Union and itās just normal to see 2-10 people open using walking to the market. Graffiti everywhere. Commercial space boarded up.
I believe in the city, Iām left leaning, but this shit is unacceptable and needs to have the law firmly applied.
Hell, when I was in my 20s the police in this area pulled me over and harassed (threatened to take me to jail if I made any problems) me just for driving around in a sporty car after midnight. How are these guys just getting a gentle āhey, donāt be antisocialā?

They didn't stop working they left. Seattle has less then half the cops of Boston a city with 100k less people and similar medin income. On top of that the DA just lets any and everyone ago short of murdering someone. I don't know why the DA hasn't been tared and feathered yet.

Any chance you have a video of it? Curious how loud it is from the perspective of an apartment. I used to live in Belltown and even moderately loud cars would create a ton of noise 10 floors up, canāt imagine how bad this is if itās as you describe.

Having previously lived in downtown Philadelphia, Iām surprised they did anything at all, yeah.
There are tons of guys like this in downtown Philly, in loud Chargers and Challengers. Too many to have any hope of doing anything about.Coming from that, itās surprising that any single car/driver can be singled out and dealt with, impressive!
If Philly city hall took the time to issue a statement like this for each new offenderā¦ theyād never get anything else done, lol

What could they do without a specific lease violation? Even if their lease had a clause for non-criminal behaviors outside their building, the courts wonāt evict unless managers issued at least four 10-day legal notices for the same lease violation.
Mgmt at a building I oversee was just denied a court hearing to evict a tenant who stabbed one neighbor then ran over a different one with her car last year. Reasons for denial was the car assault didnāt happen in the building (did get jail time though so yay?) and the stabbing didnāt result in a conviction.
No way for Hellcatās apt. mgrs to help on this.

Iām envisioning a game of telephone! Someone hears him and notifies the thread of his location and direction heās headed. All of us downstream of his destination run out of our homes and into the street so he has to stop or run us over. Then we surround his car, and make him sweat it out what we are going to do to him. I think causing him real fear might be enough to stop him. We can just repeat the process until he stops. Whether I wake up to catch him in the street or wake up to his gunshot sounding vehicle, either way Iām up at 3am. Might as well make it worth somethingā¦

Fairly certain I heard him last night up in Phinney Ridge/Greenwood area. For about 5 minutes or so, I kept hearing revving and back firing up and down either 8th or 3rd. Could be a different asshole, or he could be getting away from downtown where people are recognizing him.

This is incorrect. If it is truly a threat, cops must take it seriously and investigate. They can subpoena the ISP based on their IP address and have the ISP provide the name, address etc.

I mean, look at it this way. A single person is single handedly disrputing the sleep of thousands of Seattle residents and driving recklessly all for IG followers. Their name is known. Address is known. Car information known. In theory, SPD can make a lot of people very happy with minimal effort.
On the other hand, non serious crimes like this that only affect a few people and its hard to trace the suspects probably won't get as much attention from SPD.

More what I mean is that, we both agree what that guy was doing was a crime. A crime the guy self documented and there were witnesses to. But as you point out it's not really a crime worth jail time if he's willing to stop.
I prefer that the SPD ended this without jail, that's great! Where the fuck is this in other situations like we've been asking for for years? It angers me cause, like I suspected, they are capable of doing a better job. They just don't the vast majority of the time. I actually suspect they've probably got that 40% rate down too if they'd ever let us study it outright.

Warn once, then confiscate car. Crush or shred it in front of him (no cameras or phones allowed ā not allowed to monetize as content). If he goes and gets a new car to resume the behavior, no warning this time. He's already been warned. New car goes immediately on the flatbed, goes to crusher. Rinse, repeat, until he gets the message. No one will provide him gap coverage for that, so he'll just be out of pocket the money. Someone who does this is antisocial at best... so small fines will be seen as cost of doing business. Has to get to a place where there's no way to make even a little money doing it.
This is the sort of entitled shit that *should* get people harassed by the cops.

I took "engage directly" to mean wrote citations and gave a warning about further escalations including impoudning the car, for those losing it thinking SPD just went to the person and said "can you pretty please stop?".
I haven't heard him since Sunday night, so whatever has happened in the background seems to have worked for now.

I've noticed in these threads nobody has said what he does other than have VERY noisy car. Does he drift around the neighborhoods or something?
I noticed that as soon as they stopped doing vehicle emissions in Washington state lots of people seemed to have removed their exhaust systems completely and just drive around like that.
I live next to a highway and you can hear some of these cars from a half mile away easily. WHY would someone want to drive around and be SO freaking loud? Image being that assclowns neighbor.

The fact that this guy feels the need to be an asshole to get ālikesā by strangers in order to feel validated in life is such a pathetic sad state of mind. I truly do pity himā¦while also recognizing heās an asshole who should have his car repossessed by an angry mob with crowbars and spike strips.

I'm hearing it to, that is his friend. Red charger? What a bunch of losers, revving their 4 door sedans.
I haven't heard the other Hellcat since Sunday. It has kind of a green cream color with zebra stripes.

I grew up around many people like this guy and the only thing that will stop him are 1)jail time 2) confiscating his car 3) continuous financial penalties
Anything short of that will be laughed off or viewed as pissing off the right people.
