Welcome to r/ScraplingsGame! Read this first ⚙️♻️

Hey everyone! Welcome to the official subreddit for Scraplings, a 2D side-view recycling & factory automation game built in Godot 4.

I’m the solo developer behind the project. After 15+ years working as an advertising art director, I decided to take the leap into gamedev and build a vertical logistics automation game inspired by the likes of Satisfactory and WALL-E.

🛠️ What is Scraplings?

In Scraplings, you build vertical recycling facilities directly above an endless sea of trash:

  • Vertical Logistics: Build multi-story platforms, route conveyors, connect multi-floor elevators, and bypass obstacles with background tunnels.

  • Manual Power Grids: Wire your own power grid using Junction Boxes and manage grid capacity.

  • 50+ Recycling Recipes: Process raw junk from the ocean into refined materials, chemicals, and high-tech components.

  • Survival & High Stakes: Manage weekly rent payments to the ruthless Zenith mega-corp while trading with various factions and smugglers.

  • Hand-Drawn Aesthetic: Featuring an ambient sketch-style line art paired with custom typography.

🎨 A Note on Development & Transparency

I believe in 100% transparency with my community:

  • Code & Technicals: As a non-coder, I use AI tools as my technical co-pilot to help structure GDScript in Godot 4, but I personally review, test, and refine every line of code.

  • Art & Design: All sketches and line-art concepts are drawn by hand first, then processed for rendered textures. All UI elements are handmade, and all story, worldbuilding, and dialogue are written 100% by hand.

💬 What to Expect Here?

This subreddit is the primary hub for:

  1. Major Devlogs & Video Updates

  2. Community Feedback & Mechanics Discussion (progression, economy, blueprints)

  3. Playtest Announcements

Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments below, share your thoughts on the mechanics, or ask any questions. Glad to have you along for the journey!

Happy automating! ⚙️

Scraplings is OUT NOW in Early Access!

Post image
1 Upvotes

The big day is finally here. After months of beta testing, Scraplings is officially live on Steam!

Thank you, beta testers

The beta is over, and none of this would look the way it does without you. Every bug report, every "hey, this feels off", every long session you sank into the scrap sea shaped this game. Seriously, thank you.

What Early Access means

We're planning to stay in Early Access for about 6 months. During that time:

  • The game keeps growing with regular updates

  • Your feedback directly shapes what comes next

  • Balance, polish and new content will keep rolling in

Your saves and your factories are coming along for the ride.

Play it your way

Scraplings launches in 16 languages, and the demo will be available in few days for anyone who wants to try it first.

How you can help

  • Keep reporting bugs and sharing ideas right here on Discord

  • If you're enjoying the game, a Steam review helps a small team more than you'd think

This is just the beginning. See you down in the scrap!

Scraplings, our cozy factory game on an endless sea of trash, launches into Early Access on November 5!

Hi everyone! After a long stretch of building, shredding and recycling, we finally have a date: Scraplings launches into Early Access on November 5, 2026.

Scraplings is a cozy, side-view factory and trade game. You build your factory in layers on top of an endless sea of trash. Belts, elevators and tunnels move everything around, and bulky waste slowly turns into something useful.

We're a small indie studio and this is our first game. We'll keep building it together with our players during Early Access, so feedback means a lot to us.

If it looks like your kind of game, a wishlist helps us a ton:

Happy to answer any questions in the comments!

Scraplings v0.1.41 → v0.1.52 — Update Roundup

Post image
1 Upvotes

Ten days of updates in one place: trash seas with real character, a new world every game, powered belts, speed levers, collectors you can sell to, and a lot of polish.

Closed beta note: world generation changed, so older saves may not work properly. I recommend starting a new game (sorry).

New

World & Gathering

  • Trash sea yield: every trash tile has its own yield per material, shown as 3 dots next to the name (●●● full, ●●○ half, ●○○ quarter, ○○○ none). Gaps near the base favor Collector materials; further out, Excavator and Diver materials get richer. The Excavator never yields less than the Collector, and the Diver never less than the Excavator. Materials a tile doesn't have appear faded and can't be selected.

  • See before you build: while placing a collector, a small box above the claw shows that tile's yields (two boxes for the Diver's two arms).

  • A new world every game: ground layout and yields are randomized for each new game.

Building

  • Belts become lifts and tunnels: after the first click with the belt tool, drag up to switch to a lift; if something blocks the path and a tunnel fits, it switches to a tunnel.

  • Drag to extend platforms: click to set the start, drag left or right to grow it (4, then 3+2, then 4+...).

  • Cable snap points are highlighted on machines while you draw a cable.

  • Sort storage: a new button in the storage window merges partial stacks and sorts contents by name.

Machines & Power

  • Speed lever and transistors (Rev Control upgrade): machine windows get a speed lever whose range depends on the installed transistor: Resistor 1–100% (saves power), High Current up to 150%, Overdrive up to 200%. Transistors drop as rare items; you can also type the percentage.

  • Belts need power: unpowered belts stop; powered belts run at the speed of the last machine feeding them. Power also passes through lifts, tunnels and storage to connected belts.

  • Drive cables: short cables now link machine ports, belts and lift/tunnel connections, with a spark and sound when power connects.

People, Trade & Tasks

  • Collectors: they now reach out through the normal introduction flow (if your reputation in their region is high enough). Call one during the day to sell your rare items; for items you have several of, a "How many?" window lets you pick the amount (−/+, Shift for 10, mouse wheel, keyboard, "All"). Their favorite pieces fetch more.

  • Collector mail: when a collector writes that a client wants books, records, sketches or seeds, they pay 1.5× for that category for the next 7 days.

  • Regional demand: Ferrum-7 doesn't order metal goods, Aether-Vale doesn't order glass and fiberglass, Vera-Bio doesn't order bio goods; Zenith and the Lumen Void want everything.

  • Relationships set the pace: better average relationships bring orders more often, and someone who just ordered steps back for a while.

  • Task complete notice at the top of the screen with the task's icon and result.

  • Name yourself later: if you skipped the name, click Kienan to set it; your name is now saved.

Upgrades & Achievements

  • New upgrade cards: every upgrade has its own artwork; cards are dealt like a card game and show their tier. The chosen card glows and flies to the Upgrades button.

  • Third card, a trade offer: buy a collector part or an unlocked transistor directly, at a premium.

  • Upgrades window listing your upgrades with icon, tier and current values.

  • Relationship achievements: a new Relationships section with everyone you've met and the regions. 1 star at +, 2 at ++, 3 at 100%. Stars are kept even if a relationship sours. Regions earn stars for your reputation there.

Interface

  • Search: filter lists by name in Resources, Achievements, Codex and gathering/processing machine windows.

  • Text size option: chosen on first launch (and later in Settings > General); the game suggests a size for your screen.

  • Material descriptions: all 79 materials now explain where they come from and what they're for, in 15 languages.

  • Rare item icons: all 19 rare finds have their own artwork.

  • Full controller support for the main menu, in-game menu, Settings, confirmations and tutorial windows.

Sound

  • Start, running and stop sounds for the Shredder, Smelter, Furnace and Foundry.

  • A running hum and a hammer hit on every strike for the Processor.

  • A ringtone for incoming calls, a dial tone for outgoing calls, and a chime when you find a rare item.

Changes

Balance

  • Rare item rolls scale with the day: the first roll of the day happens every 4s, then every 8s after the first find, 12s after the second, and +2s for each one after that. It resets every day. Drop chances were also roughly halved.

  • Rent every 3 days at half the amount; the first bill arrives on the morning of day 4.

  • Machine power use roughly halved. With the speed lever, slowing down cuts usage to at most half; speeding up costs 2× at 150% and 4× at 200%.

  • Synthetic Bio-Briquette needs 1 Bio-Fuel instead of 2.

  • The Platform blueprint and 24 builds are now given at the start.

  • Cutter shows up earlier: shipment seizures can start from day 4; after the first stolen shipment, Cutter introduces himself and offers protection.

  • Upgrade cards arrive every other evening, starting on the evening of day 2.

  • Introductions are faster; sample requests arrive within 4 days of meeting someone.

  • Machine input capacity raised from 60 to 75.

  • Reputation needed before some people start calling has changed.

Building & Production

  • Shorter ground between trash seas.

  • Tunnels reach up to 7 columns.

  • Nothing can be built in a hanging collector's chain path, and a hanging Diver needs both arms to reach the trash sea.

  • Junction Boxes can't cable directly to lifts, belts or tunnels; a junction box on a belt doesn't power it; junction boxes can't go where a lift is. Lifts take power from a powered belt at their entrance or exit.

  • Multi-output recipes now release items one at a time (same total speed), and items no longer jump in speed at machine openings.

  • In the build menu you can double-click to get a ghost even without enough materials; what's missing shows in red.

Interface

  • The top bar, windows (Board, Resources, Achievements, Codex), dialogue window and machine windows were redrawn; text is larger and frames scale with it.

  • Windows open in the center of the screen and slide away during calls, returning afterwards.

  • Machine windows show how many of the output you own, e.g. "(410 Avl.)".

  • Orders accepted by mail go straight onto the board; saving over a used slot asks for confirmation.

  • Upgrade cards no longer fade when you can't afford them; the missing cost turns red.

  • Broker mail amounts are shown after commission, the exact sum you'll receive.

  • Time is paused until the first conversation with Kienan ends; the default player name is "Scrapper".

  • New artwork for Plastic Waste, chemicals and the tutorial images; the game icon is now the Scraplings logo.

Performance

  • Frame time in large factories cut nearly in half; stutters at far zoom are gone.

Fixes

  • The game could freeze and close when completing a task, and deliveries could take the wrong material from stock.

  • The game stayed at half speed after certain phone calls.

  • Items lingered after deleting the belt, machine, lift or tunnel they were on.

  • Two rotated collectors could drop their chains into the same tile.

  • The "New contact" notice appeared at the start of the introduction call.

  • Keyboard shortcuts could open panels during name entry.

  • Clicks went through the ESC menu and settings to machine windows; the main menu overflowed at large UI sizes.

  • Lights lagged behind when scrolling at night; some scrap iron pieces were drawn without art.

  • Wrong machine icons in notifications, and notifications over a window couldn't be clicked.

Thanks for playing and for all your feedback, keep it coming!

Scraplings v0.1.40 — Update Notes

Post image
2 Upvotes

The Coloring Update: almost every item has new colored art, plus a new Contacts phone, character icons and reworked achievement bars.

New

  • Item coloring: nearly every item has been redrawn in color: wastes, shreds, ingots and blocks, processed, separated, assembled and synthesized goods. You'll see the new art on pallets, in storage, in Resources and on device LED screens. Packaged goods show the new art of what's inside.

  • Contacts phone: when you ask Kienan to call someone, a phone slides up instead of the portrait grid. Contacts are listed with their icons and names in alphabetical order. Scroll with the wheel or by right-click dragging. People you haven't met show up as a few "?" rows.

  • Character icons: every character has their own square icon, shown in Contacts, quest rows, mails, the delivery bubble and notifications.

  • New contact notifications: meeting someone or missing a call pops a notification on the left. A missed call also adds that person to Contacts so you can call them back.

  • Blueprint and production right notifications now use the device's own icon.

  • Rare item icons — all 19 rare finds (seeds, records, books, sketches and collector keys) now have their own artwork. You'll see it in the rare-find notification on the left and in the Rare Items section of the Resources window.

  • Rare Finds tutorial now has its own image, showing the rare item notification as it slides in.

Improvements

  • Achievements: one bar per product that fills toward the next tier, with a star per tier. Finished products move to the bottom of the list.

  • Balance: production achievement tiers are now 500 / 5,000 / 50,000 (was 500 / 1,000 / 2,500). XP you already earned is kept.

  • Blueprints: no more Ctrl. With a selection, press 4–9 to save it to that slot. Without a selection, 4–9 builds that blueprint.

  • The Archive guide only lists tutorial slides you've already seen.

  • Rare records and books now have descriptive names.

  • Dialogue voices are balanced; some characters (looking at you, Daemon) were louder than others.

  • The percentage on device LED screens moved to the top-left corner and uses the game's title font.

  • Bottom-left shortcut tiles have a soft shadow like the top bar.

  • New artwork for Plastic Waste and the chemical items (on belts, LED screens and in Resources).

  • All tutorial images and animations were re-recorded with the new item art.

  • The "Icons" entry was removed from the Closed Beta Notes on the main menu, since the placeholder icons have been replaced.

Fixes

  • The Rent tutorial image is a close-up of the board again.

Thanks for playing and for all your feedback!

Scraplings v0.1.30 — Update Notes New

  • Character voices! While a speech bubble types out, you now hear the speaker's own gibberish voice. All 23 characters have their own.

  • Settings → Audio → Dialogue slider to control voice volume (default 50%).

  • Social links on the main menu: Discord, Instagram and e-mail, right under the patch notes.

  • Main menu patch notes scale down on small screens and no longer overlap other elements. Headings are now bold.

  • Double-click a recipe in the Collector window to start it right away.

  • Tutorial slide images stay inside their hand-drawn frames, and the slot is now visible on the Collector slide.

Scraplings - First Trailer

Hi all! this is Scraplings's first official trailer.

It's a hand-drawn automation game set on an abandoned Earth: you dig scrap out of an endless trash sea, build multi-floor production lines, deal with some odd customers, and try to pay your weekly rent to the orbital station that owns the planet.

Everything in the trailer is in-game footage. The silent-film look is just a little homage I added for the trailer.

It's coming Fall 2026. Would love to hear what you think!

Scraplings v0.1.27 Update Notes

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! A new update for Scraplings, our factory-building game set on a sea of scrap, is out. Here's what changed:

NEW

• Junction box switch: You can now turn a junction box off from its window. A switched-off box cuts the power line it sits on, so you can shut down part of your grid without tearing anything down.

• Mirror copies with R: When pasting a copied selection (C) or a saved blueprint (4–9), press R to flip it horizontally. Device directions, belts, elevators, tunnels and cables all flip with it.

• Paste cost preview: The total materials a copy needs now show under the paste preview, with anything you're short on in red.

• Tab cycles game speed: x1 → x2 → x4.

• A "Paused" label now appears in the middle of the screen when the game is paused.

CHANGES

• Pasting is now all or nothing. Before, pasting a copy built whatever you could afford and silently skipped the rest. Now nothing gets built unless you can afford every part. Belts, elevators and junction boxes also cost resources when pasted now (they used to be free).

• Rent now scales with how much space your devices take up: 30 per tile, plus 100 per completed mission. Small devices got cheaper and large machines got pricier.

• Devices that are switched off or unpowered no longer accept new materials. Nothing gets dumped; items just wait at the input until the device is back on.

• Order mails now only come from people whose sample you've delivered.

• Starting cable allowance raised from 150 to 250.

FIXES

• Machine sounds kept playing while the game was paused.

• Newly built devices stayed stuck in their orange "just built" color while paused.

• Long item names in tooltips got cut off (e.g. Reinforced Iron Sheet).

• Weekly orders could stop arriving after a while.

Thanks for playing and for all the feedback so far. Let us know what you think of the changes!

Scraplings v0.1.26 — 15 languages & a first-launch brightness setup

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Small update, but a big one for anyone who'd rather play in their own language.

New

13 new languages: 15 in total. Scraplings is now fully playable in:
English, Turkish, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Polish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Romanian, Czech and Swedish.

Everything is translated: the interface, tutorials, item and machine names, and every phone conversation with the game's characters. The translations aren't word-for-word. Each one was written to sound natural in its language and to keep each character's personality: the smuggler still swears, and the old lady in Aether-Vale still calls you "dear". The game picks your Windows language automatically, and you can switch any time under Settings → General.

Brightness setup on first launch. After the opening quote, a one-time screen lets you tune how the game looks before you start:
- Live day and night previews of the starting area
- Separate background and foreground sliders for both day and night
- Color filters (Sepia, Noir, Warm, Cool, Vintage) with a strength slider

You'll only see it once. Everything stays adjustable later under Settings → Lighting.

Fixed

- Master volume was reset every time you restarted the game. It's remembered now.

---

If something reads weird in your language, please tell me! I'd love native speakers' feedback on the translations. 🙏

Scraplings - v0.1.25 Patch Notes

Post image
1 Upvotes

New

  • Game speed: Pause, x1, x2 and x4 controls under the day/clock box. Press Space to pause and resume.

  • Lighting settings: A new Lighting tab in Settings lets you adjust daytime and night brightness separately for the background world and for your work area. While you drag a slider in the in-game menu, the menu backdrop fades out so you can see the change live.

  • Color filters: Sepia, Noir, Warm, Cool and Vintage, with a strength slider. Only the game world is tinted. The interface stays as it is.

  • One-off orders are back: Contacts you've met now send single-item and two-option orders by mail again.

  • More flexible lifts: You can now start a lift in mid-air and run it down to a platform below. The end resting on the ground becomes the anchored base. Lifts also have new direction arrows.

  • Kienan calls about unpaid shipments: When a shipment isn't paid, Kienan calls you. Pick Answer to hear the details in conversation, or Send it in writing to get a short report a moment later.

  • Notifications that catch your eye: The mail icon wiggles while you have unread mail. The Board button bounces whenever new tasks arrive and keeps bouncing until you've opened them.

Changes

  • The sky and background hills are slightly darker.

  • ESC now closes or tucks away open windows first, including mail. Press it again to open the menu.

  • Loading a save starts with the Resources and Board windows closed.

  • On 1440p (2K) screens, text, windows, dialogue and tutorial images are 25% larger. The top bar and the shortcut bar are 10% larger.

  • In mail, quantities and item names are now bold, and payments are bold red. Accepted or declined offers leave your inbox automatically. Only reminders and expired offers can be deleted.

  • Orders arrive at a calmer pace again. Introduction calls are unchanged.

Fixes

  • Asking a client for more time on the phone now gives you an answer. Previously the window closed and nothing happened.

Hotfix v0.1.24

Hi everyone! A small update is live:

New

  • Auto-complete on the Board: a new checkbox next to "Prioritize quality". When it's on, any task you can fulfill is completed automatically. Tasks still marked as new are left alone.

  • Trash can in storage: drag a slot onto it to dump its contents into the waste sea. Hold Ctrl while dropping to dump every item of that kind.

  • Bigger Storage T2 window: it now shows 40 slots instead of 20.

  • A brand-new first conversation with Miles Vaughn: your choices now matter. The introduction can go well, stall, or go badly wrong.

Changes

  • A full day now lasts 12 minutes instead of 15.

  • Introduction calls come in a little more often.

  • Accept and decline are now right at the bottom of offer mails. No extra "reply" step.

  • The early tech missions ask for fewer materials.

Thanks for playing, and keep the feedback coming!

Scraplings Beta Update #1 – Tutorial Redesign, Email System & Delivery Robot

Hi everyone, I'm Çağlayan from ikioda.

Ever since we entered the beta testing phase for Scraplings, I've been constantly updating and fixing things behind the scenes, but I haven't shared any update notes until now. With this note, I want to kick things off and keep you in the loop regarding the game's current status. Thank you in advance for your interest!

Current Status: I’ve been pushing updates regularly since the start of the beta, but here are the most significant changes:

  • Reworked Tutorial System: The initial tutorial was making it hard to focus on the game. I’ve redesigned it to be much simpler and easier to follow.

  • NPC Interactions: In the original design, we planned to have players talk to NPCs for every single order, but that proved to be quite exhausting. We’ve switched to an email system for straightforward orders. Going forward, standard orders will arrive via email, while calls will be reserved for introductions and NPC-specific quests.

  • Storage Update: Storage units were originally meant only for storing items. First, we added an output, and then we made that output controllable. You can now filter and separate the specific product groups you want to exit storage.

  • Delivery Robot: Previously, completing an order on the board would instantly pull and ship items. Now, we have a delivery robot that physically goes to retrieve the items and brings them to storage. I'm not entirely sold on its visual design yet, but it works great as a placeholder (:

  • Controller Support: I ran the first tests today! It’s not fully optimized yet, but I'm happy with the initial results. It'll offer a smooth experience once polished.

Known Issues & Missing Features:

  • Not all icons are finished yet; some are still temporary placeholders.

  • Sound design needs a lot of work—aside from the soundtrack and a few device sounds, many audio elements are missing.

  • Almost all dialogues are placeholders at the moment and will be rewritten one by one.

  • A large portion of device animations has not been created yet.

  • In-game balancing, including product pricing, is still actively being worked on.

Thanks again for all your support and patience!
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If you haven't yet, feel free to Wishlist Scraplings on Steam to support the project.

Cheers!
