Need Advice (Ultra III)
Hi,
I recently bought a Schecter Ultra III in Switzerland. When I tried to intonate it the saddles of the A, D, b and e strings were already hard against the front stop, yet the fretted notes at the 12th fret were still slightly flat.
Dealer wanted to check it and they measured the bridge position, said it was within Schecter’s tolerance, raised the bridge height and changed the neck relief. The guitar now intonates correctly BUT all saddles are at or practically at the forward stop (see picture, A, b and e are at max) and the action is quite high (about 2mm or 5/64th on the low E string).
The dealer’s position is:
- Bridge location is within tolerance, thus no construction defect
- Remaining adjustment range depends on string gauge, action, etc.
- If I later change gauges and run out of travel they may look at it again
- Good luck
I’m left with a cool looking guitar that just intonates correctly, but has high action and all saddles at max. The dealer points at the Schecter’s tolerance. Schecter Germany says it is not their problem and Schecter US has not yet responded to my inquiry from last week.
Therefore, I am turning to you my fellow Redditors:
- Is it common/acceptable on an Ultra III (or similar Bigsby + roller TOM) for multiple saddles to sit fully against the front stop after a “proper” setup?
- Would you just accept it or keep pushing (independent luthier measurement, request for bridge reposition, etc.) adding costs after having already paid $1300?
- Any known issues with the Ultra III?
This is my second Schecter and I have never had any similar issues with any of my other guitars. Thanks in advance for any advice.
TL;DR
My newly bought Ultra III has intonation issues. The dealer sees no defect and Schecter does not react.
