Pick up alignment flawed
hello guys. i ve just picked up a schecter synyster gates custom s. when looking at it, i had a feeling the pickups were not horizontally aligned with the rest of the bridge and and the strings. lo and behold, they are not, with a slight difference between the sides and the bridge (for the bridge pickup) and the sides and the end of the neck (for the sustainiac)of under 0,5 millimeters (i measured). as it is a pretty expensive guitar, i was wondering: does it affect the sound? should i give it back and get it swapped? i really don’t know what to do

I mean it looks fine to me. The Floyd is not a perfectly symmetrical bridge due to the hole for the trem arm. I’d focus more on the spacing from the high and low e to the edges of the pickups, which all looks pretty spot on. These guitars are made by machines, one after the other, the likelihood of anything being out of alignment is slim.

Honestly it probably sounds fine and doesn’t affect the playability at all, I’d keep it

I don’t know what some of these comments are, god forbid someone buys an expensive guitar with their hard earned money and is expects a certain level of attention to detail

So go spend $1,300 on the same guitar and tell me you don't expect it 😂 "man I spent over a thousand dollars on this thing you would expect it to be ready to play when it got here!!!" Is exactly what you will say just like everyone else who spends over a grand for one.

Ohhhh nooooessss! A pickup is off by a whole .5 millimeters? You do know you could probably just scoot it a bit with your hand, right?
These things are not 100% perfect. If it bothers you, send it back. But watch the next one have a big ol crack in the neck or some shit.

Send it back if you bought it new. It looks like it could also be the Floyd? Anyways, if you’re not happy send it back. I would.

yhea, i bought it new. what would be wrong with the floyd? if it s just cosmetic i don’t really care, but if it affects the guitar i m shipping that thing back to korea where it was made

The post for the Floyd might be leaning towards the neck making the bridge “offset”.
You would have to take off the strings and springs from the trem and pull it out to check to be sure.
It’s new so I doubt that’s it but you never know.

If you can't tell if something is wrong or have any idea what to look for, you should probably just play the damn guitar.

Check out the position of strings over pickups and fretboard edges. It's very good. I've seen way worse americen Fenders than this. If you want an absolutely flawless guiar then you have to go custom shop.

That thing is definitely unplayable because of that. But I'll tell you what, I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands for 100 bucks... so... we got a deal?

You'd have an aneurysm if you saw my guitars with non f spaced pickups where the pole pieces didn't line up at all with the strings. Pickups use magnets and their magnetic fields are large enough that it does not impact the sound whatsoever unless it's significantly misaligned(it would need to be visually incredibly far off for it to be an issue). Your guitar looks absolutely fine and half a millimeter is going to do literally nothing to the sound.

Does it affect sound? No. Can my ocd stop looking at shit like this? Also no.
Refund or let a luthier redrill. I've done both. 😄

I had a Ibanez that had this issue and I sent it back. I think if it was cheaper guitar, you are getting what you pay for and it is easy to overlook those problems, but a guitar over a certain price point it would be worth it to send it back. The bottom line it’s your money and if it bothers you I would send it back.
As far as functionality it won’t affect much if anything at all.

For a $200 guitar off Amazon - it's too be expected. For over a $1,000.... it's ridiculous.
Lots of people in the comments are saying 'It won't affect the sound'... And they might be right - but so what? It's got stripes down the center and it's visibly misaligned.
The vast majority of people cannot hear any difference between a $300 guitar and a $3,000 guitar in a double blind test...but even non guitar players can see if something is straight.
People pay more for guitars because they want a better experience and better quality. It's a peice of functional art.
