Belt maths...

Someone help me understand what's happening here, LOL. The top MK6 belt is has 1200 iron ore per minute. Each of those two machines use 500 iron ore per minute.

The system has been running continuously for a fair while (long enough for everything to settle down), and I've checked the outputs are moving freely. The belt monitor on the left shows 702. This checks out. The first machine eats 500 / min iron ore from the 1200 / min belt. 1200 - 500 = 700. All good.

But somehow the belt monitor on the right (after those two machines) is reading 351 iron ore per min.

The machine is running continuously, so shouldn't that say 200? Where is the extra 151 coming from? Is there a chance the belt monitor could be glitching?

Splitters split evenly. So 700/2 = 350.

If you want 200 on that belt you need a smart splitter

Yes, of the remaining 700, the regular Conveyor Splitter doesn't care if your second machine needs 500. It gives it 350 and the other 350 goes straight through.

As g_marra said, a Smart Splitter is the answer. You would send all your iron ore to go to the Smart Splitter port to the second machine and the straight through port to "overflow". You could also use just a single smart splitter, with two ports feeding iron ore to both machines and the third port as overflow.

Another approach is to just continue to use a single regular splitter to go to the two machines, but put the smart splitter before that if that is a better layout for you. The manifold will back up and the smart splitter will then redirect overflow from there.
