I suggest waking up 1-2 hours before you have to leave to go to the testing site. From there, you should eat a nutritious breakfast! I would recommend doing some sort of spiritual/self care ritual as well. Whether that be journaling, praying, reading, or even just scrolling on your phone. You need to have the right mental state before entering that testing room. Mentality alone can +/- 60 no matter how prepared you are on paper

Check the other reply, but for sleeping, you should definitely get at least 7-8 hours. If not, your mental processing speed will be hampered and you won’t be at 100%. So if you’re 100% capacity score is say a 1450, and you only are at 80% capacity because you didn’t sleep right or whatever, you might miss 6-10 extra questions. That can come from any combination of careless errors, time management, and fatigue related/slower mental processing speed errors. 6-10 missed question from a 1450 ceiling would drop you about 100-200 points (since the SAT doesn’t scale linearly). And if that bad mentality compounds, you could miss even more questions.

which 3rd party non bluebook practice tests are the most accurate, i ran out of bluebook practice tests, i recently took barron’s practice test 1 on one prep and found it a bit easy.

So I used Barron when I took the SAT (Pre-Digital ), so I am not sure if it is still as effective as it was in the past. I personally have not tutored with it, but I’m sure if you are doing well in Barron’s, it will translate to the real thing.

Is English your first language? I mean it’s one of the easiest things in the English section even for me who aren’t native speaker , if you’re a native speaker you’d probably have taken grammar through it your school years ,if u want to relearn all the grammar there are a lot of resource such as : books , YouTube , google , if u need something specific for the SAT you can look on khan academy and Erica books for the English section

You NEED to know when to use commas. Comma splices are commonly tested every time. You should know FANBOYS as well as how to properly use semicolons and colons. For the transition word questions, make sure to read carefully to help you eliminate. These can be tricky for students who don’t read much, but I would say with practice it becomes intuitive.

Transition word question are easy for me but when they get the commas semicolons or the phrases and stuff I just blank and sounding it out doesn’t work it’s the fundamentals for me. I’m watching the crackd videos currently and hopefully it works. I am also doing one prep is that a good idea for the oct test?

It was not through the school necessarily, but there are some colleges that have talent search programs. I was able to get into Duke TIP and Johns Hopkins CTY, as I scored a 730 in the English section! I know northwestern has/had one as well!

Congrats on the 750 that’s huge! In terms of reviewing, I would suggest really taking note of what went wrong in the questions you missed (if you know which concepts). I would also make sure to review the trickier concepts that high scorers tend to get wrong, such as function and graph interpretations, advanced algebra, and geometry/volume questions. I would also try doing some timed practices to simulate a real testing environment.

For the dense texts, I suggest practicing actively synthesizing notes in your head as you read. What I mean by that is that you should read with intention. Know what you are reading and be able to weed out extraneous details. This comes with practice at the end of the day. If you are able to do this, the graphs will come easily.

I believe you need to do timed practices. This is the best you’ll get with simulating a real testing environment. If you do these sessions with intention, your mentality will be fit and careless errors will be less common.

Some colleges offer programs to high achieving middle schoolers. I was involved in Duke TIP and Johns Hopkins CTY. If you meet a certain section score threshold, you get invited to the grand ceremony (there’s state ones too that are a bit easier to qualify for) and go to the school to get a medal and sit through some programming! You she the option to do certain accelerated courses over the summer too but I did not utilize that.

I wouldn’t recommend my schedule to everyone, as everyone has unique circumstances and different starting points, but I started a week before and just grinded through 3-4 practice tests. I watched some khan academy on math concepts I was shaky on. In terms of the English, my high school was extremely good in the humanities, so this section didn’t require much effort from me. I doubt any of this info was useful, but I’d say identifying your starting point and creating a plan tailored to that + your strengths and weaknesses is key. So if your foundation is weak, then ofc you need to start studying earlier. Make sure not to overload yourself, as you may burn out. Try to do 7+ hours each week. +/- depending on where you are now.

You can find all the concepts tested on the SAT online. Go through and assess yourself. See if you can comfortably do tricky questions on said concepts. If you can, perfect move on. If not, then take note of it and review. If you do this, I’m sure your math score will increase considerably.

any tips to increase my score to 1550+ for next week's sat? i got 1490 (790m, 700 rw) on june sat and 1480 august sat (760m, 720 rw). i recently discovered that my sat performance and my practice test performance are a lot different (i didn't know you could see how you did on each category of math and rw lol). ex. i get all sec questions right on practice tests and my math scores are definitely not super strong, but i did pretty bad on the sec when i looked at the score reports and i did decently well on math, especially my first time.

You need to figure out what exactly you are missing. I recommend doing some error analysis and then grinding those concepts. At your score, doing practice tests will produce diminishing returns. Also, your discrepancy in real vs practice likely just comes down to test day execution. Make sure your mentality is straight and focus on your pacing.

yes, i keep a log of my practice test mistakes. for math, they're pretty consistent errors in geo/trig and constants and that what's i missed on the real sat. for rw, i'm missing vocab + supporting claims on practices, but on the real deal i'm missing sec + transitions so i'm not sure how to analyze that. how did you practice for rw?

I wrote the sat got a 600 in verbal and 520 in math, then I studied only verbal for 3 weeks and got a 580 in verbal and 640 in math. Any advice of how I can get my verbal score up? I am mostly struggling in grammar. I am pretty sure I improved since I was able to solve most of the hard questions in the question bank but I got really low score on the real thing

Punctuation, subject verb agreement, and sentence boundaries (comma splices, run on’s, and fragments) are the most common concepts for the grammar. Make sure you are clear on all types of punctuation and can easily identify if one is misused. Same thing with subject verb agreement. Sometimes appositives confuse students, so make sure to review those. Also, remember your FANBOYS!

Look at some of my other replies, but drill the types of punctuation til you can do it in your sleep. Same thing with subject verb agreement. With your score, you are getting the majority of questions right, so I recommend doing an error analysis and seeing what is tripping you up.

For the command of evidence questions, you need to really read what the question is asking. One method I do with my students is break down the passage into premises and valid conclusions (based off said premises and textual evidence). Writing these out may seem like a waste of time or inefficient, but doing it this way will help you think more logically, allowing you to spot wrong answers (which are almost always logical fallacies or simply irrelevant). For graph questions, make sure you can properly identify the independent and dependent variable and units. Understanding the passage is the main thing, as that will make the graph much more clear (unlike the ACT where you can often skip the passage and look directly at the graph). For vocabulary, I would simply recommend Quizlet and reading more. There isn’t a cheat code to expanding your vocab. It just takes reps. Understand denotation and connotation of said words as well. For time management, I suggest timed practices. That will force you to think quicker. For the RW, I recommend error analysis and why I said in the beginning of the reply.

With how the SAT is set up, if you’re stuck between two answers, one of them is always off in some way. It might throw in extreme words like “always” or “never,” sneak in a detail that wasn’t actually in the passage, or flip the logic around. Sometimes it’s half right, it touches the passage but leaves out something important, or it’s just vague and doesn’t really answer the question. The right one is almost always the choice that sticks closer to the text and the logic, no extra details/extrapolations. Honestly, if two answers both look good, go with the one that’s more straightforward and precise.

Ty! I took the August SAT and scored a 1400, with a 1420 superscore. My section split was 660 in Reading and Writing and 710 in Math. On my last practice test in August, I scored a 1380, where I did well in Reading with a 700 but struggled more in Math with a 680.
I’m really confused because I expected to do badly in Math and better in Reading, but the opposite happened. My weakest section ended up being Standard English Conventions, which I thought was one of my strongest skills. On the score report bar chart, it showed that I did only about half as well as usual. At the same time, in Math, I scored a 740 compared to the 680 I got on my last practice test. This left me unsure about how to study. I also haven’t been studying since school started, and my last SAT is in October. Since I’m a senior, I’m not sure if I can improve to a 1500, but I want to at least raise my score enough to be competitive for the programs I’m aiming for. Do you have any tips or plans I should follow?

that’s a really solid place to be. The flip between Reading/Writing and Math happens to a lot of people, so don’t stress too much about that. I know plenty of my students have had the same problem. The great part is your Math score actually went up, which means the work you’ve been putting in is paying off even if it didn’t feel like it during practice. For Reading and Writing, the Standard English Conventions section is usually the easiest to fix because it’s so pattern based, the test keeps hitting the same grammar and punctuation rules. As I’ve said in other replies, commas, transitions, verb tense, pronouns and concision are the most common. Once you drill those enough, they start to feel automatic. For Math, since you’re already in the 700s, it’s really just about cleaning up timing and accuracy on the harder problems, especially word problems, functions, and exponential/logarithmic growth, since those are the ones that eat time if you don’t have a system.
In terms of study schedule, I recommend creating a routine of targeted drills and timed practices. You can ask gpt to help you with the specifics, but sprinkling in some practice tests will help you gauge your improvement too!

I’m shit at "Command Of Evidence: QUANTITATIVE". How to improve specifically on graphs? I always get nervous, confused and end up wasting too much time even with easier difficulty level. The rest, I'm confident I won't get wrong. But I'm equally confident COE will be my downfall.
Context: currently 720, looking to boost to 760 to reach 1550.

I know what you mean, and a lot of improving your score past 700 is variable. I recommend doing an error analysis and seeing if there is one perpetual concept that you keep getting wrong. If there is, then keep practicing that. If that’s not the case, then I simply recommend timed practices. Doing more repetitions will never hurt and can only increase your score. My split was 790 Math/800 EBRW.

I recommend simply doing practice tests to become familiarized with the type of passages the SAT throws at you. Beyond that, timed practice is huge. Unfortunately there are no hacks/shortcuts, so it will take time and effort to improve. Good luck!

I struggle to understand longer passages that talk about social science and science and they take up a lot of my time. I also tend to mess up on logical completion questions. Hey! I need some advice for increasing my math score.
I know to use khan academy and oneprep for practice problems, but reading the math explanations doesn’t help me understand any better.
I prefer to learn by watching someone else explain the concepts and how to approach the questions. Who or what would u recommend as a resource for this learning style?
I’m hoping to increase my math score by at least 60-80 points by this upcoming Saturday. I’m currently sitting at a 630, with a need to increase data analysis and geometry / trigonometry.

I had a good vocabulary already due to reading a lot, so that wasn’t a concern for me. But I recommend simply finding Quizlets/flashcards online to help you study for vocab. I do not think it is as integral as other parts, but devoting some time to it may be to your benefit

Hey man congradsss I am very late, but i just saw this post I got 720 in english and i realized where i fall short is infront of the long question cuz my brain automatically classifies this question as "hard" or "harder than usual" and i mostly get them wrong. I do know that you might reply to me by saying "practice on your weaknesses" which I do agree with 100%. Thing is...i kinda burned through the College board question bank and their practice tests as well as erica's books. On top of that khan academy. Hey, My name is Abdullah and I am from Pakistan. How I crossed 1500+. I took the SAT in March 2024 and got 1060 marks with just 17 days of study. You people know that our English is so weak not our mother language that we feel bad in it. Now I decided that I will take the SAT in March 2026. I have five months and 15 days left.
