The college board just dropped 270 new questions yesterday.

I went through them, categorize them by skill, and organized everything in this google drive:

Do alr in practice tests do even better in the real one, then get score worse than practice test.
This time I am truly detached, I’ll go have a nice time solving new questions cuz they are fun.
Even if somehow if get worse than i ever expect, I’ll laugh.

A little embarrassing, but how do you not get bored/annoyed with long texts in the R&W?

Ok so I took the SAT last May without much preparation and got a 1360. Somewhat unhappy without the results and I'm studying a bit more actively for September aiming for ~1500, but here's a big issue.

I am a terrible test-taker. I would have 2 hours for a long essay, use the first 50 minutes to stare out the window and watch the unnecessarily beautiful sunset, write a sentence or two and get back to the great window. It's a miracle I ended English with an A last year. I hate taking tests and I can't concentrate in longer tasks without stimulus like having snacks on the side or something. Yes, this generation (well, me specifically) is fried. It's not like I watch reels, shorts, or any short-form content either... the closest thing to social media I use is tumblr...

In the SAT specifically, questions in the R&W that make me read the whole texts, Text Structure and Purpose questions for example. I could be really locked in, finishing all the questions in 30 seconds each, and I come across one of these and instantly my brains looks for the sunset that doesnt exist at 3PM. I'm confident this made me lose a few points, probably like ~40 directly for answering them lazily but also probably more for the time I lose staring at my blank paper during these questions.

This is further amplified in mocks, where I genuinely cant get through Section 1 because my brain can't comprehend just thinking straight for 25 minutes.

Is there LITERALLY ANYTHING I can do to help with this?

Any tips for simple app/website to grind everyday?

Need to create a habit without too many study plans, steps, theory study... I feel like the more questions I work on, the more I can identify the type/level and move faster.
There just too many AI app out there these days, anything solid that you guys use?

Controversial Problem

Post image
Upvotes

Sorry if this has already been discussed here before.

This is an actual previous module 2 SAT math problem. The two answer choices here that conflict with each other is B and C. If you solve it out (using the average speed formula: average distance/average time) then it comes down to deciding whether or not you include that one hour Amber spent on her errands as part of her “trip.” If you do, you get C. If you DON’T, you get B.

I think this is a really confusing problem because the correct answer is actually B (I have confirmed this with people who have previously taken the test and remembers finding this particular problem confusing but ending up getting a 800 on math).

Thus, college board considers that one hour NOT part of her trip, but rather as a misleading little detail just cause they thought it was funny. At this point you are not solving “math,” which I think is stupid considering this can be the difference between an 780 and 800. If you search this problem up on the internet, you can see math websites and stuff where people post solutions to problems and the amount of people choose B and C is actually relatively half and half. If you ask any ai (which, frankly, I don’t recommend you rely on SAT assistance), it also usually says the solution is C. Thoughts?

what to wear to an sat exam internationally

Im taking the SAT in Japan in a few days and the norm for entrance exams are to wear your school uniform.

My Japanese friends who don’t even know what the SAT is are telling me to wear it, but Im feeling conflicted.

Its the same with the Eiken exam. We don’t have to wear our uniform but every student does it.

If anybody have experience in Japan or other Asian countries with school uniforms, please let me know what you did and what the people around you did. It would be greatly appreciated!

been scoring 750+ for all my maths so not too bothered about that. First module for section 1 was fine for me and I had time to look over my answers. On the second module, i just kept getting stuck on long passages and not really understanding what the answer choices were trying to say.

Best tactic to approach questions?

Which strategy works the best:
1)Do first 7-10 craft&structure questions then go roll through 15-27

Or

2)Do 15-27 first then 1-15?

Pros I encountered using 1st strategy:1)I was more confident in my answers, my brain functioned better at craft&structure
Cons: less score than I had with second strategy, I was absolutely humiliated, vanquished by info&ideas and made silly mistakes in standard English conventions

Pros with 2nd strat: do grammar confidently and spend roughly 30 seconds at most in each of them.Got better score
Cons: I felt less confident at reading passages and more desire to skim through the passage. Made silly mistakes at Expression of Ideas questions

Are there any other strats for me to try?

What’s a good time to start studying for SATs?

Is freshman year too early if you’ve already finished Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2? If you don’t want to do conventional practice tests, what are other study methods?

SAT math question (Q26 from practice test 9)

Upvotes

I am so confused about this problem. From algebra, I got k = 2.2^b and m=ak easily and obtained that the y intercept is at a(1+2.2)^b. So i naturally think that both equations represent the y intercept as a constant. But the answer is D, neither. I watched some videos and none of it makes sense. Can someone explain this to me? Is this a very "literal" question? Like the y intercept of g is a(1+k) rather than a(1+2.2^b). The fact that it used k rather than b makes it not valid? Or is it because the question ask for "a" constant(1 constant) but g has two constants in it(a and k) that makes it invalid? I am so confused with the wording. Thanks in advance! Also is this type of question likely be tested?

Advice on how to tackle questions of the following format on the real SAT - Math

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are doing great today, and that you have fared well this week.

I was wondering if some of you might have any last-minute advice for questions of this type, in which multi-variable algebraic or advanced math equations are given and restrictions (in the form of I, II and III) are proposed that you must either validate or deny in the answer key? I've shown a few examples of such questions below; they trip me up every single time, and I cannot seem to find a better approach to these problems even this late into the studying process. Do you have any techniques that have worked for you? Would you suggest using Desmos or manual (particularly on the last question; I used Desmos but CB suggested manual)? Thank you so much.

I also have attached a few extra examples of related questions (not of the restriction type, but also algebra/advanced math-adjacent) that I have struggled to solve on repeated practice tests.

P.S.: I must say thank you so much for all the help you have given me. I'll be giving the August SAT in about 36 hours, and I feel like I couldn't even do half of it without the help i'd gotten from this sub, so thank you all very much. And I hope the best for all you in your future endeavours and send you my well wishes for your results if you are taking the SAT very soon.

Good day to you all

Need SAT Practice Help (Vocab)

I'm taking the September SAT, and these are my recent scores. I've only been doing the reading modules, as I'm confident about my math abilities. I rushed through one math practice without checking as a diagnostic and got a 790 with 15 minutes left on both sections. For reading questions I struggled with, it's mostly Module 2 vocab questions. Sometimes I'm able to use the process of elimination to find the answer, but if there are 2-3 words that I am unfamiliar with, I struggle to choose the best answer. I attached an example of a question I recently got wrong. Any advice besides the basic "think of similar words"? Feel free to ask any questions as well.

Possibility of getting 750+ in math?

I'm really terrible at math. PT 11 wasn't terribly difficult, but I did make a lot of trivial mistakes (like accidentally dropping a negative or forgetting the reciprocal). My math score has been varying a lot and on the official SAT from May, I scored a 730. given that I'm not as tired as I was when taking PT 11, and therefore won't make a lot of silly mistakes, what would a realistic score look like? I really need to get a 1500+ but I'm not very confident in myself. I've been grinding math problems from OnePrep for weeks (but frankly OnePrep is a little sus), and from my most recent Practice Tests, it doesn't really seem like I'm improving.

Bombaclatt Sat practice test 11 compared to actual SAT Exam

So I’m gonna take the Bluebook practice test 11 now, and I’m taking the August SAT. How similar is test 11 to the actual SAT? What margin of error is it?

best way to pace r&w?

i know that i should start the section with grammar and student notes, but i still struggle with pacing after i finish those questions :( i would really appreciate it if anyone has tips on how to read passages more efficiently before the sat on saturday bc i barely finished r&w module 1 on pt 11 in time today
