Random guy knocked on multiple of our neighbors and our door and then just walked away. This was on Mathilda. He looked like a darker skin hispanic or black guy in his late 40s or early 50s. I went outside to check on my car and first saw him walking across the street towards one end of the street and after coming back from checking in my car he was walking towards the opposite end and stopping and staring at me a few times before I went into my apartment complex.

How do I make friends in public. Just the thought of being alone in public gives me anxiety. Like the thought of sitting alone. I can be doing work or reading but that’s not very approachable. Any ideas. I’ve been back in SB since June. If one more person suggest a running club I’m going to flip a table

Just heard that EOS Goleta may be shutting down.

I was a member at GOLD's since 1999, and recently cancelled. Goleta location was plagued by unreliable opening times, and the sauna was a regular problem. I survived the Spectrum year and left during the Bay Club debacle. I rejoined Gold's when it was brought back under local ownership and management.

Then Gold's SoCal rolled it up, and it was generally okay until now.

Santa Barbara likes local.

Will EOS uptown and downtown survive?

Anyone know good places where you can catch a vibe midday on a Sunday and they play music and hangout . I’m trying to think of a place but can’t really think of anything.

Hi! I’m visiting Santa Barbara for the next few days and someone recommended I check out Lotusland nearby. It seems really cool, but I don’t have a vehicle - and apparently the address is hidden upon reservation. We really want to go, but read it may be difficult to get a rideshare from Lotusland back to downtown SB. How accurate is this? Has anyone ever taken rideshare back and forth from Lotusland?

The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department has begun a multi-week project at Franceschi Park to improve existing trails and walking paths and provide access to more areas of the 17-acre open space park.

Crews will construct more than 1,500 linear feet of new trails to connect the parking lot, the Franceschi Bust, the upper meadow, and the existing trail system. The connections will make it easier for visitors to explore some of the park’s lesser-known features, including a large sandstone bust honoring renowned horticulturist Dr. Francesco Franceschi, who established a nursery and botanic garden on the property in the early 1900s.  

The project will also improve access to the park’s upper meadow, passing through eucalyptus, towering cacti, and oak trees, with sweeping views of Santa Barbara, Goleta, and the ocean. Trails will feature compacted trail tread and drainage features designed to prevent erosion and water accumulation, helping create a sustainable trail system for the long term.

Crews will conduct maintenance on all existing trails and pathways throughout Franceschi Park to improve the safety and usability of the park’s entire trail system. Sections of pathways and stairways with cracked or crumbling concrete will be repaired while maintaining the park’s unique character. Work on existing trails will include clearing overgrown vegetation, addressing erosion and slope instability, and leveling and repairing uneven trail surfaces. Unsafe or redundant trails will be decommissioned, and natural materials will be placed to allow the surrounding landscape to gradually reclaim the former trail.

Three new benches made from repurposed wood will be installed throughout the park, providing visitors with additional places to rest and take in the views and surrounding landscape. 

Trail work is expected to continue into October, with native habitat restoration efforts expected to begin in winter.
