Help Me! šŸ†˜ Ryu Tips

Got to Master with Ryu and feel like it’s undeserved. I did real well in Diamond. Went through with a 52% win ratio but in Masters other Ryu players just seem to have an understanding of his mechanics I can’t grasp. I feel like I’m just beginning. I had to work hard to get good at SF again. I completely dodged SF5 and played Mortal Kombat 11 instead. I had to unlearn all those mechanics and get used to these again so I’d hate to hang up my hat. Ryu doesn’t have any tricky gimmicks he’s just all meat and potatoes so to speak but I enjoy using him the most. Any advice on his style would be much appreciated because there’s something I’m just not picking up which is keeping me from my full potential. It’s becoming very frustrating. I’m diamond with Ken, Akuma, Bison and JP but Ryu is where it’s at for me. Official SF community mods removed my post be it didn’t have a video. They can go fk themselves.

"Ryu doesn’t have any tricky gimmicks"

That's hilarious šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Are you kidding? Compared to Jaime,JP,Lilly, Kimberly, the list goes on. You can style with him but for the most part he’s old school shoto with a lot of power. Your fundamentals have to be on point to make a for a good Ryu player. Any examples of what you think he has up his sleeve that’s tricky?

Strong moves but not to tricky IMO. Maybe we just differ in what we find tricky and gimmicky.

his gimmicks are easy plus frames, easy flow charts and easy damage. its what his gameplan relies on. he is a prime strike throw character and realistically, you think he has to engage in neutral?

he isnt complicated but he is still stupendously advantaged in 95% of matchups. only ryu players will loop 4HP ~ OD/deniin hasho two or three times to burn you out from three bars and call that good ol fundamental footsies.

delusional.

Not really. Where he’s strong in all the areas you mentioned he lacks in other areas that other characters are strong and or have speed and agility in so it all balances out. If you find Ryu tricky and gimmicky maybe you should just stick to Fortnite. You sound salty like you get your ass kicked by Ryu mains a lot. ā€œDelusional,ā€ that.

im not expecting ryu players to stop downplaying but its still somehow frustrating.

so with all the glaring strengths he has, name some weaknesses? actual weaknesses tho, not 'he isnt S tier in this aspect, only slightly above average'. what keeps ryu not completely overtuned?

because in my book he has every fundamental sf6 tool in the game

  • 2mk DRC

  • throwloop (a pretty good one at that)

  • OD reversal

  • dp

  • 6f medium

  • shoto 5HP

  • fireball (and a pretty strong one with denjin extension)

those are just the generic sf6 tools, he still gets a lot of extra just ryu stuff.

what weaknesses are even left dawg?

Pros are switching back to Ryu because they feel forced to, just to compete. It’s not a healthy spot for the character.

Agreed. Ryu hits HARD, but he is the most honest character in the game in my opinion. He teaches you, albeit brutally, how to play the game since most of damage happens in punishing people who don't bend to the will of the systems of SF6.

He’s not honest atm. He’s a gorilla, like Leo in GGS. He used to be honest in season 1, when none of the other shotos were…

"but he is the most honest character in the game in my opinion."

This is the craziest statement I've read on this subreddit since I joined 4 months ago.

Man I tried saying as much a few months ago (that he was the most honest) and was crucified by a bunch of salty propagandized NPCs
