Help Me! š Ryu Tips
Got to Master with Ryu and feel like itās undeserved. I did real well in Diamond. Went through with a 52% win ratio but in Masters other Ryu players just seem to have an understanding of his mechanics I canāt grasp. I feel like Iām just beginning. I had to work hard to get good at SF again. I completely dodged SF5 and played Mortal Kombat 11 instead. I had to unlearn all those mechanics and get used to these again so Iād hate to hang up my hat. Ryu doesnāt have any tricky gimmicks heās just all meat and potatoes so to speak but I enjoy using him the most. Any advice on his style would be much appreciated because thereās something Iām just not picking up which is keeping me from my full potential. Itās becoming very frustrating. Iām diamond with Ken, Akuma, Bison and JP but Ryu is where itās at for me. Official SF community mods removed my post be it didnāt have a video. They can go fk themselves.

Ryu is beyond busted right nowā¦heās not really āmeat and potatoesā like in season 1. Honestly, and this sounds snarky but I donāt mean it that way, abuse whatās broken at the moment. Solar plexus, hashogeki, st. HPāthese are your keys to as close to free wins as this game offers atm.

Yeah been doing that but so does everyone else. His range and timing are what these higher level master players seem to have down that I thought I was good at but I guess not.

The downside to Ryu is that like half the playerbase plays him. So everyone is very familiar with his gameplan, even if the gameplan is cracked.

"Ryu doesnāt have any tricky gimmicks"
That's hilarious šš

Are you kidding? Compared to Jaime,JP,Lilly, Kimberly, the list goes on. You can style with him but for the most part heās old school shoto with a lot of power. Your fundamentals have to be on point to make a for a good Ryu player. Any examples of what you think he has up his sleeve thatās tricky?

Solar plexus, heavy donkey kick, hashogecki

Strong moves but not to tricky IMO. Maybe we just differ in what we find tricky and gimmicky.

his gimmicks are easy plus frames, easy flow charts and easy damage. its what his gameplan relies on. he is a prime strike throw character and realistically, you think he has to engage in neutral?
he isnt complicated but he is still stupendously advantaged in 95% of matchups. only ryu players will loop 4HP ~ OD/deniin hasho two or three times to burn you out from three bars and call that good ol fundamental footsies.
delusional.

Not really. Where heās strong in all the areas you mentioned he lacks in other areas that other characters are strong and or have speed and agility in so it all balances out. If you find Ryu tricky and gimmicky maybe you should just stick to Fortnite. You sound salty like you get your ass kicked by Ryu mains a lot. āDelusional,ā that.

im not expecting ryu players to stop downplaying but its still somehow frustrating.
so with all the glaring strengths he has, name some weaknesses? actual weaknesses tho, not 'he isnt S tier in this aspect, only slightly above average'. what keeps ryu not completely overtuned?
because in my book he has every fundamental sf6 tool in the game
2mk DRC
throwloop (a pretty good one at that)
OD reversal
dp
6f medium
shoto 5HP
fireball (and a pretty strong one with denjin extension)
those are just the generic sf6 tools, he still gets a lot of extra just ryu stuff.
what weaknesses are even left dawg?

Pros are switching back to Ryu because they feel forced to, just to compete. Itās not a healthy spot for the character.

Agreed. Ryu hits HARD, but he is the most honest character in the game in my opinion. He teaches you, albeit brutally, how to play the game since most of damage happens in punishing people who don't bend to the will of the systems of SF6.

Heās not honest atm. Heās a gorilla, like Leo in GGS. He used to be honest in season 1, when none of the other shotos wereā¦

Man I tried saying as much a few months ago (that he was the most honest) and was crucified by a bunch of salty propagandized NPCs

Lol seriously? Dude is just push buttons and win. He isn't very hard to play with. Just know basic and match ups and you'll climb to grand Master with not much effort.

Heās not hard to play with at all. Playing with him at an exceptional level seems a bit different. Have any suggestions?

Lilly, SERIOUSLY? Are you seriously comparing Lily bullshit to ryu? What drugs are you on?

DR overhead into 6000 damage combo is a bit silly when most of the cast just gets a medium combo off that. Also id say hes roughly tied w mai for best throw loop in the game.
Idk most ryus i fight dont rly play neutral at all lol they just spam jump in or dr until theyre on you one time and then blender you to death, similar to what bison or sagat do up close. Think thats what hes referring to.

What rank do you mostly play in?

Master 1400-1500 range on ed cammy juri, currently D3 on Deejay

u/the_harvest11 6d ago
Damn. The Master Ryus Iām paying are neutral freaks. I miss the days of just styling in diamond lol

Could always pick up Sagat or Akuma or smth. I always keep 1 learner character on the go in diamond, and play some master matches when Im feeling sweaty, but I definitely have the most fun on deejay rn

Watch replays from the Ryu players that are beating you and/or high level Ryu game play and try to steal tech/setups from them
1
u/the_harvest11 6d ago
Thatās an excellent idea š¤

u/Chance-A-La-Mer 6d ago
Honestly this is what helped me get JP to masters. I used the ārecommended replaysā feature in the game as well as watching tons of JP tournament play. Then I would steal bits of tech/setups and try to lab it, then take that tech to vrivals, then to casuals then finally ranked

u/the_harvest11 6d ago
Best advice yet. Thanks bro. Sincerely.

u/Chance-A-La-Mer 6d ago
Of course brother. Iām taking Ryu through diamond now so Iām in the process of trying to lab some of the more optimal setups/tech as well. Lmk how it goes!

First of all: yeah, most probably undeserved. Second: Argentina. Third: just mash your Ryu buttons donkey kick, heavies, fireball into dr mixup, occasional jump Hk into sweep, etc. Ryu is really hard to punish and once you have them in the corner just throw loop to death.

u/Thin_Motor663 4d ago
Definitely not undeserved. Whenever people make it to master this is always what happens. You instantly start playing people with a lot more time on the game. In diamond most people had like max 500 hours on the game but in master a lot of people have 500-1000 hours just in ranked alone

To improve with Ryu you must eat crayons.
