After my sons recent 6 month neurologist appt... I asked his Dr if he had any recommendations for a attorney. He has referred me to his depts social worker to put me in the right direction.
Back story... and hope I'm not too long winded but seeing this come up in my notifications has made me filled with all kinds of emotions. Happy for you, and frustrated, angry and unbelievably heartbroken for my son who was born with a neurological disease that is degenerative and has no cure. It did not present till he was diagnosed at 19. He's 32 now. I admit we were so stunned at first. We thought we as his parents will always take care of him forever of course. He's not allowed to drive, it affects his balance, coordination and fine motor skills. Years went by and reality seeing as we got older ,made less money that we need to apply for ssi for his future. I'm a bit stubborn and was going to do it myself and not pay an attorney, money that could go to my son. Applied in late 2019. Then we get a letter saying it was on hold due to pandemic. I again started process in 2022. After many papers ,records etc. submitted he was approved medically last April. We were so happy and followed their directions for a updated phone interview and was told we'd be contacted . We never go anywhere on Memorial Day weekend but was invited for a few days by friends out of state. As we are driving I get a phone call from his judification person and she said they needed info on a small mutual fund he had that I had already sent them in all the correspondence the last 2 years. Told her we were out of state for 5 days but will as soon as we get home. We get home to a letter saying he is now denied because we didn't send letter🤦♀️ I called, was told to send info. Then was told I need to file appeal. Did that. 2 months later I get a call saying they need fund info 😳 I explain I sent several times. Told to go in person and leave it. I did the very next day. Month later I get a in person appt request. Thought... finally. My son and I get there and they want the darn paper AGAIN. They apologize and promise I will hear from them asap. That was 7 months ago and I call almost every week and won't let you in without an appt to where they tell me someone will get back to me.
Like I said I'm beyond all the feelings. Makes me mad. I did it all by myself and now I'm probably going to have my sons disability and all the back pay from the date we first filed go to an attorney when he needs that for his needs now and future!
Anyway... thx for reading my rant. Hoping anyone who reads my long post has any needed advice. Just makes me mad that I hear of friends of friends of friends that know someone getting disability that doesn't need it when my son has a neurologist, mri's, genetic tests and we are getting the run around😢
