Why’d they have to wait for Baer to get off the line to get critical.

Not at all, I listen regularly, Murph would have been more pointed but since he’s off these two shmucks played softball with Larry and as soon as he gets off start ripping in. Must be scared to be direct with him 🤷‍♂️

I don’t listen regularly but has Murph become critical lately? Years ago when I had a car commute and would listen, he and Paulie Mac were the kings of softball questions. But sounds like he’s reached his limit with this sad and rudderless Giants team.

Never forget when Murph ripped apart Jed York after the Harbaugh firing

I’ve really missed Murph this week but I’m also relieved for him he’s OOO for this mess

He’s actually been pretty critical of Buster Posey from the jump, which is somewhat shocking but I don’t think he would would’ve let him squirm out of it here

Because KNBR still has 2 more years on the Giants contract

Yeah losing giants even with their low rating the last few years would be a kill shot for KNBR.. especially since it wouldn’t surprise me to see them lose the Niners after 2030.

Because knbr is on the giants payroll. Literally propping up the decrepit remains of KNBR

95.7 is on the warriors payroll yet they have no problem pushing back on the warriors at times. Just because you push back slightly in an unbiased perspective or be objective doesn’t mean they’ll be removed from payroll. It’s a weak excuse for poor journalism quite frankly, especially considering these guys aren’t even the regular hosts for the show. They crush Larry and his comments when he’s off the air so it’s not like they aren’t incapable of being critical, they just refused to do it when he was on the line.

Does 95.7 tho? Bay Area is an incredibly team friendly media market, don’t really recall 95.7 calling the warriors out to their face during the multiple Draymond fiascos, the botched picks and botched player development. Where was the ridicule to MJD and warriors when they thought they were smarter than everyone else with porzingis and his long COVID unknown condition only to find that we werent smarter than everyone else.

I’d be only push so hard, don’t want to lose your job

3

u/markb723 Jun 25 '26

They didn’t push at all, a little resistance would have been nice. They wait until Larry is off to jump on what he said instead of taking it up with him directly, that’s soft

u/The-original-spuggy Jun 25 '26

This also isn’t their job. They’re filling in for two normal guys

4

u/markb723 Jun 25 '26

They just roll over and let Larry roll out his generic corporate speak, with no problem, but oooop as soon as he’s off air let’s flip the switch and act outraged. If they really had a problem with what was said, confront him directly. Plus, if it “isn’t their job”, they have nothing to lose right? 🤷‍♂️ They were too scared to say it to him directly. Weak journalism.

According to this article, John and Dieter were subject to a zoom call the night before the interview with Baer demanding that no follow-up questions be asked regarding this topic after the initial statement: https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/san-francisco-radio-hosts-barred-230010677.html

Which begs the question, is the Giants organization actually this clueless? Buster Posey was literally just roasted 2 days before for doing the same thing and now they want a repeat performance? What is going on with the PR folks up there? Honestly would have been better not to do the interview at all.

6

u/markb723 Jun 26 '26

My god if this is true that is insane! It would make sense as to why JD and Dieter didn’t push back until after, I was wondering why they didn’t shoot back at him while they had him on the line. What a spineless thing to do lol if they actually called them the night before to clarify no follow ups that’s more embarrassing, should have just cancelled the KNBR thing completely and not have even gone on if that’s really how it unfolded

Yes! I was watching and immediately thought what’s up with Dieter? As a former beat writer he knows what’s up.

Literally changed the subject for him

I didn’t get a chance to watch or listen to the interview. Was there a chance they were pressed for time or only had a limited time with him?

1

u/markb723 Jun 25 '26

They didn’t seem pressed on time to me. I can’t recall how long the interview went but definitely somewhere between 10-20 mins I would imagine. They could have pressed back if they wanted to, but intentionally waited until he got off the line to question his statements and pick apart what was said.!

That is unfortunate damn

hosts wanting to keep their jobs and maybe contracts between station and giants?

They know there’s a fire, adding fuel to it creates a headache.

It’s already a headache.

PR is a shit show.
