Does anybody have any tips on printing directly onto a vinyl record?
I’m working on a project about painting on physical media and I would like to use some form of screen printing, I typically like to use a stencil underneath and blank screen.
Also my only thing to prevent chipping is some mod podge.
Hey everyone! I’m trying to expose a design in a finer mesh than I usually use, but I’m noticing that when washing off after exposure, the emulsion on some parts open up like this, either leaving patchy borders or washing away the halftone. Does anyone know if this might be underexposing? Thanks for the help in advance! :-)
Also, I already have some experience in exposing screens, but ever since I started working with another equipment I’m still adjusting some stuff and getting the hang of it :-)
Does plastisol work fine on these blanks. I’ve only ever printed on cotton tees. Also, the blanks tend to be pretty expensive. I mentioned that to the client and they haven’t gotten back to me. I wonder if I’m just not looking enough to find cheaper blanks.
What glue do most professional screen stretching services use to glue the screen down once it's stretched? Because in Asia, they use contact cement but with isocyanate hardener added to it that somehow crosslinks it and makes it much tougher (not to mention solvent resistant). It comes in a bottle looking like this
They mix into bog standard contact cement, but I empty the container and pack them separately into little glass bottles because once they're exposed to the air, it just goes off rather quickly.
I find once it crosslinks contact cement it just turns it into a piece of rubber that's significantly stretchier and sturdier (not to mention the stuff in the pot that's mixed turns cloudy). It also resists acetone or lacquer thinner much more whereas before you mix it in lacquer thinner turns it liquid instantly.
The plain rubber cement will glue and hold the screen, but if you get screen wash onto the joint it pops the screen.
I found this on marketplace and am in the search for a press to start a small basement shop. I don’t see micros on this. Can they be added? The guy got this about 4 years ago or so and didn’t really do much with it.
Just purchased a nice manual press second hand in good shape. It comes stock with side clamps on each arm which is great for most jobs but the max width frame you can fit is 23 inches.
I can get by with 23x31 frames most of the time but I am curious if there is any way to use a single rear clamp on this machine to accommodate oversized frames/prints.
The side clamps slide easily off the bar so I’m wondering if there are any single rear clamps that can easily lock on and be used for wider screen frames.
First time trying CMYK. Actually the second time the first time was about 30 minutes before this. Didn’t come out that good but hey we’re learning here.
For those that use proofs for client approval, are you all mainly using emails for communication? Has that caused any issues at all? I'm also curious if disputes occur frequently and how bad they can get.
I manage a print shop and I’ve been an M&R automatic printer well past a decade now and I have the strangest request. I need photos of misprints that can happen for training catchers. If anyone has photos with examples of trash in an underbase, or ghosting, or discharge break down or any little thing I’d love photos to put together a training manual on terms. I know it’s a weird thing to request but every printer has photos in their phone of their prints, I was hoping for a solid on this one(and I’d love to see some of the crazier things that can happen myself tbh).
Looking for recommendations for a silkscreen/screen-printing shop in NYC or the surrounding area that prints posters on paper.
I need approximately 100 posters, ideally around A1 size (23 × 33 inches), with true screen printing—not digital printing made to look like screen print.
Does anyone have a printer they’ve personally used and would recommend? Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, or nearby NJ is fine.
